This reminds me of the time someone was trying to convince me Sera was a lesbian stereotype.

Of course I can't point out stereotypes of them because I can't relate to it. But it doesn't change the fact that Vivienne is a stereotype.

Sure it does. If someone - through sheer coincides - writes a character that fits a stereotype, that doesn't mean they intended a stereotypical character. It could be that Vivienne fits a stereotype. Based on what limited knowledge I have of US racial stereotypes, I don't see it, but I'll take your word for it.

Spoken like a true apologist. If they create a black character that falls under racial stereotype it is intentional just like she's not a romance option.

I... what? Okay, we're clearly not having a conversation, so good luck with this one.

Don't take it the wrong way but it does sounds like what an apologist would say. I'm saying this that when they make a fictional black character that's has racial stereotypes it is an intention to make them a negative influence, like how Jacob is a hypersexualized black man and daddy issues as a racial stereotype just as Vivienne is obviously an angry black woman and sapphire. It is intentional that they put racial stereotypes that is so obvious and it's not like they try to hide it.

There are people who will call you a racist for not liking Vivienne

Then there are people who will call Vivienne a racist stereotype.

Both of these people live under the same camp though. Interesting.

Vivienne is not angry...at all.

So how exactly does she fit some stereotype of an angry black woman? I would think actually being angry would be one of the requirements.

Wasn't the OP the same poster who wanted her as a romance? Or was that someone else?

Have they gone 180 into dislike of the character now? :P

I'll bite. Exactly which stereotype are we talking about? The only halfway plausible candidate we've had lately isn't specific to blacks.

Ok look at her patterns of her behavior the way she talks to people like crap and always antagonistic like she always looking for a fight. These are signs of anger and being combative constantly which she's a black woman with a negative personality. Hence the angry black woman stereotype.

She was always polite to my default character, she even comforted her warmly and sympathetically when my character was sad about losing people at Haven.

She's capable of anger, but it's extremely rare to see, and it's of the cold, aloof variety when she does express it. She's much more likely to behave as though a given conflict is beneath her notice than she is to actually react aggressively toward.

Have we played the same game? I don't recall her doing either of those two things.

She can potentially have an antagonistic relationship with the Inquisitor, but that is limited to interaction with one person, and dependent entirely on the Inquisitor's own actions and dialogue. Her default state is hardly one of anger or antagonism, and she can be quite sweet and motherly to an Inquisitor who sees eye to eye with her. That Vivienne can be vocal in disapproving of the Inquistior's actions also makes a for more interesting character than if she had instead been written to be obsequious.

Antagonistic? Always looking for a fight? That doesn't sound like Viviene at all. Viviene isn't an 'angry black woman' stereotype, she's an elitist snob.

Ok. If you think she's not that's cool but I still think she is.
