Not necessarily. More along the lines of how did Shepard defeat the reapers? Who lived or died? Who did you romance? Did any of your crew end up together? I wanted to hear what people wanted from the ending. If you have a fanfiction I'd like to read it.

Here's my story, one that I wrote a while back in another thread.

My Shepard is found by an ex-Cerberus team led by Miranda, and to the larger galaxy, he's dead once more. Which gives him the perfect opportunity to continue the Illusive Man's work, and using the destroyed reapers and their technology to enact a plan for secret control of the galaxy with humanity having a perpetual edge over the other races, and eventually enacting a similar singularity event similar to synthesis. This organization eventually becomes a secret galactic superpower.

Squadmates fates;

Kaidan = killed on Virmire

Ashley = killed on the Normandy after confrontation with Shepard during an attempted takeover of the Normandy by Cerberus (in-game killed on the Citadel).

Wrex = active, working to maintain his population. Is warned by Shepard that any Krogan aggression or lack of ability to control themselves will be met with immediate extermination of the Krogan race.

Tali = killed on Earth during final battle.

Garrus = killed on Earth during final battle.

Liara = active, convinced by Shepard that being a brutal, ruthless information dealer isn't compatible with her ideology, psychology, and philosophy. Liara subsequently retires from the business and returns to her solitary existence as a Prothean researcher. All Shadow Broker assets remaining are folded into Shepard's organization.

Jacob = active, and is a recruiter, trainer, and security adviser in Shepard's new organization, along with his wife, who works as a project development manager studying Reaper AI's.

Miranda = active, and is Shepard's executive arm in his organization as well as being his 'business partner,' for all intents and purposes, all while still finding time to help coordinate rebuilding and restorative efforts to Earth and her colonies. Is also Shepard's significant other. The two do create a cure for Miranda's infertility, and have twin girls that are almost mirror images of their mother.

Mordin = killed on Tuchanka, nearly murdered by Shepard over the morality of curing the genophage (which Shepard believes was a grave mistake to cure). Still, allowed to complete task for the sake of the mission.

Zaeed = active, semi-retired, but still called by Shepard to work as a cadre adviser for his organization, as well as being contracted for his services in return for some very healthy retirement benefits.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Kasumi = active, continuing her usual penchants for kleptomania. Had continuing problems of overcoming the loss of her lover, Keiji Okuda, but managed to get on with her life in other ways. She occasionally made an appearance for Shepard, though she made it clear that she would only work for him on her own terms, even stealing particularly sensitive technology from time to time to, in her own words, "keep Shep grounded and on his toes."

Jack = killed on Earth. Entire biotic class wiped out.

Grunt = active, returned to Tuchanka when able, though quickly grew bored with much of the rebuilding. Sometimes works with Shepard to train and entertain himself.

Thane = killed by complications from advanced Kepral's syndrome exacerbated by stab wound from Kai Leng.

Samara = active, finding peace in the presence of her remaining daughter and her commitment to her code. Returns to her life as it always was, with Shepard keeping her out of the picture so as not to draw curious eyes from her.

Legion = deactivated on Rannoch fulfilling upload of Reaper code to the Geth.

EDI = destroyed by the Crucible's energy wave.

James = active, and given an anonymous recommendation (from Shepard of course) to attend the N7 special warfare school. Later contacted by Shepard to work as a liaison and contact for Shepard's organization within the alliance.

Javik = unconfirmed, missing assumed killed. Last seen on Earth fighting Reapers, entering into zone of battlefield obscured by heavy smoke on his own against significant Reaper forces. Assumed killed in struggle, but no body was ever recovered.

Fate of the major Galactic Stage Actors and Species;

The alliance = while humanity played a significant part in defeating the Reapers, a massive outcry began against the alliance when knowledge came to light that they had advanced warning of the imminent Reaper arrival and did next to nothing to prepare while obscuring and censuring information at even the highest levels of governance and military command. The issue was exacerbated when a 'posthumous' biography was released about Shepard, where he expressed his extreme dissatisfaction with the alliance, the image they built up around him while censuring and ignoring his warnings, and their general impotence to responding adequately to issues. This tell-all reveal was a blow to alliance propaganda to a significant extent, as many within the alliance considered Shepard to not only be their hero, champion, and savior, but an outright god. Seeing how their own idol felt about the alliance and his own points on why they were flawed (As well as revealing that Shepard was very largely sympathetic to Cerberus), some felt betrayed by their hero's dismissive stance on them, some were stunned that their hero wasn't the paragon of justice and alliance-y-ness that the alliance had touted him to be, and many were forced to realize some inconvenient truths about the alliance and Cerberus. Shepard meanwhile initiated some backroom maneuvering to put the alliance squarely under his control, and using his influence, began reforms of the alliance that made them a much more... progressive but firm organization while hiding the existence of his organization from the galaxy at large (a good example of what they're like is the Empire of the Hand, the Imperial Remnant under the control of Pellaeon, Darth Revan's Sith Empire, or The Fel Empire, all from the Star Wars Expanded Universe). As well, the new home for the Citadel in orbit above Earth ensured that humanity as a whole would become the new political, economic, and military powerhouse for the galaxy. On the hidden side, most Reaper technology and material recovered was by the humans, which was used to further their own technological advancement to a step where they were now at the cutting edge. If humanity was seen as the vociferous upstart race before the Reaper war, their new level of dominance put them at a quantum leap ahead of everyone else. Humanity was seen as not only a key species that was only just entering into a golden age that would see them at the forefront of galactic affairs for eons, but the species that was likely to hold unofficial stewardship over the galaxy for the foreseeable future. Humanity are the giants now.

The Council = The incredible outcry against the Council was immediate. The Turian councilor was killed on the Citadel during the Reapers takeover, while the other two fled. The Asari councilor later made a reappearance, apologizing for her actions and choosing to step down from the role of councilor. The Salarian councilor on the other hand was a bit more practical about his actions, and chose to try and stay in power. He was assassinated within a year. No one knows who killed him. The Council institution as a whole received much demand for reform from almost every species, with large scale riots demanding to know why the Council did nothing to prepare for the Reapers. Eventually, a new council is established, with a significantly increased supranational integrated military command. The Council itself has been permanently relocated to Earth with the Citadel, giving Earth a significant boost in political power, as well as making them the new 'technical owners' of the Citadel, thus ensuring that their presence on the new Council is very formidable.

Cerberus = While still more or less reviled by many, Cerberus reputation improves to a point where they are largely vindicated by history. Much of this is its successor organization's work, with Shepard himself being rumored to have been pro-Cerberus and sympathetic to their goals and motives. Shepard, via his 'posthumous' biography, discussed his feelings on Cerberus and how he came to view the rationality of their actions. His subsequent defense, even when believed dead, was considered a betrayal by some, particularly by former members of the crew within the alliance. Others, who were more in the know about the Commander, were un-surprised by Shepard's sentiments. He was known to be a Machiavellian 'do-whatever-gets-results' kind of person (no matter what the cost was or how immoral or 'wrong' the action was) who was very practical and rational, and, while holding onto his own progressive idealism, did not fetter or bound himself to abstract principles and morality at the expense of physical, tangible goals and the mission. The spirit, the idea of TIM and Cerberus was continued on in the next iteration of the organization.

The Turians = Affected hard by the war, but able to recover and regain their strength, being able to rebuild largely to their former state. They were the race that enjoyed the closest relations with the humans post-war, and continued working, albeit with significantly increased human cooperation, to be a galactic peacekeeping and policing force. The Turians saw their own power and strength boosted, and was the only one of the three traditional council races that ended up in a greater position politically than they had been in. The Turians were still relatively concerned about the continued and exponential leaps and bounds of humanities advancements, but were ironically thrust into a role of placator species that had to reassure others that humans weren't trying to clean house as they were seen as the race that enjoyed the closest relationship with humans and were privy to many of the new technological advancements created by the humans.

The Asari = Hit very hard by the war, as well as having many ancient and unsavory secrets about their history brought to light, there was a large outcry from other species about the Asari and their lack of helpfulness in the war. Being initally unmoved by pleas for a united response to the Reaper threat until it was directly threatening them, as well as being found to have had key information on the Protheans and Reapers hidden away for millennia, the Asari faced many blows to their standing in the eyes of the galaxy (and among their own citizens). While they were able to eventually recover much of their economic assets and rebuild their worlds, it was soon seen that the Asari's era of prominence over the affairs of the galaxy had come to an end after several millennia of being the most advanced and dominant. Humanity stepped into the role of most influential race in the galaxy, and they were keen to not make the same mistakes as the Asari. The Asari retained their image as more peaceful arbiters and diplomats, but had a difficult time re-establishing themselves militarily and found their political position increasingly marginalized, as much was possible for one of the four key races.

The Salarians = Perhaps facing the most negative response of all the Council races, the Salarians were seen as having altogether largely abandoned the war effort despite providing significant military and intelligence support. This was due to the sheer ineptitude of the leadership, with many Salarians themselves rather disgusted by their leaderships antics during the war and preventing the assistance of their power over disconcert with the Krogan genophage cure. Despite Shepard's own feelings on the cure (he only did it because he needed the immediate assistance of the Krogan to facilitate an offer of assistance from the Turians), Shepard was reasonably very upset at the stubborn pettiness of the Salarian dalatrass and her utter inability to see the much larger problem that lay ahead of the Krogan issue. However, the Salarians were able to survive the war largely intact; While taking their share of damage from the Reapers, Sur'Kesh was seen as getting off relatively easily (despite the fact that hundreds of millions were killed when the Reapers finally broke through Salarian defenses close to the end of the war). This, combined with the usual Salarian ideology of being rationally oppurtunistic and unsympathetic to other, more harder hit species, as well as certain leaks of information about their activities, put Salarians in a position where they were arguably the weakest of the old cadre of council races as time wore on, finding themselves, like the Asari before them, in more and more of a sidelined position in favor of the prodigious new rise of humanity.

Other races;

The Volus = gained new and improved abilities to regulate the galactic economy, and was introduced as the newest member species of the Citadel Council, finally enjoying their years of under-appreciated toil. Their large numbers and relative lack of attention for the Reapers meant that while they had, like every other species, been hit hard by the war, the Volus were able to come out of it stronger after the reconstruction period, with many of their colonies intact. The Volus were viewed much the same as they always had been, and, in context with the dramatically changed political landscape that brought the rapid advance and ascension of some races and the turbulent downfall of others, they were quite content with this.

The Elcor = one of the species that suffered heaviest at the Reapers onslaught, the Elcor were considered a species in decline, if not outright endangerment. Their relatively nonviolent disposition, small military, and small numbers meant that, while not being seen as a particularly significant target by the Reapers, what damage had been done to them was critical and catastrophic. Post-war, an expedition of Salarian, Asari, and human scientists and biologists began a program where genetic material was taken from Elcor donors and used to attempt to create an artificially sustainable number of Elcor. However, this program yielded limited results, and the future of the Elcor remains uncertain.

The Hanar = The hanar were a species that were able to be overlooked by the Reapers for the most part, while still suffering heavily at their hands. Nearly every colony controlled by the Hanar was attacked by the Reapers, though the Reapers found themselves having difficulty fighting the Hanar in their underwater environment, where it was easier for them to flee and hide. Despite heavy damage to their infrastructure, the Hanar were themselves able to largely avoid the Reapers. Their primary issue was the reestablishment and preservation of the Drell, whose numbers were largely depleted by the war. They came out of the war a little worse for wear, but still strong and able; they were seen as the most likely species to gain a council seat after the Volus had joined.

The Drell = The drell, conversely to the Hanar, were nearly wiped out by the Reapers. Despite having small enough numbers that were sparse enough in size, location, and number as not to lose any off-world population beyond what few were on other worlds, the vast majority of the very small number of Drell in the galaxy were located on Kahje. Kahje was hit hard by the Reapers, and while the Hanar were able to quickly and easily flee into the abyssal depths of their homeworld themselves, on the surface, it was a slaughter. With almost no military to speak of and nowhere to run with the Drell being trapped on what small islands and artificial structures that dotted the surface, the Reapers utterly devastated them. The few million Drell that lived on Kahje were almost entirely wiped out to the last, eliminating an irreplaceable gene pool and population reserve. Post-war, it was estimated that there were less than 100,000 Drell in the galaxy. The Hanar once again set about to preserve and protect the Drell, investing largely in genetics and possible cloning to preserve a dying species.

The Krogan = Despite the cure for the genophage and their invaluable assistance in the war, the Krogan were met with icy apprehension that was only exacerbated by their continual penchants for violence and confrontation. As well as learning that the only reason they were cured were so they could be thrown at the Reapers, the Krogan were quickly isolated on a couple of worlds within their home system and were essentially told to control their breeding, learn to play nicely, or face the humans and turian battlegroups in orbit who were ready and waiting to finish the job that had been started. The Krogan were not allowed a military, severe restrictions on weapons research, and enormous levies on travel and trade. The Krogan were understandably bitter about this, though with new progress and change among the younger generation, were relatively quick to realize that they still had an opportunity to grow, just not at the expense of other species. As well, the Krogan also knew that they were in no position to argue, with fleets in orbit that were capable of raining down hellfire onto their world should they misbehave, and a new asteroid that had been towed close to the relay and fitted with thrusters, to send a message that any insubordination on their part would not be tolerated. The mantra given to them was 'clean up your act or else'. Of course, this did not help the Krogan's populations. Despite significant progress made by Clan Urdnot, many Krogans refused to admit to their issues, and Tuchanka was still a host to many violent internecine conflicts.

The Vorcha = virtually unchanged culture and status from the Reaper war. Continued their existence as they always had, with little to no change.

The Quarians = Despite having their homeworld back, the Quarians had no real prospects after the war. With limited ability to farm and isolation from the rest of the galaxy, the Quarians faced a catastrophe on their world. The Geth were gone forever all of a sudden, and their fleets were utterly ravaged by the Reapers, having been used largely as bullet sponges for the Crucible through their sheer numbers. With those ships went many of their best and brightest, as well as their leadership: only Admiral Koris and Admiral Xen survived the war, with Admiral Gerrel, Admiral Raan, and Tali all perishing at the Battle of Earth. With much of their heavy machinery lost with the destruction of the liveships, the Quarians had the problem of having to use archaic methods of farming by hand that was inefficient and unsuitable for sustaining even the already incredibly small number of Quarians. Cut off from the galaxy by the deactivation of their relay, and no easy way for the survivors to establish communication with the outside galaxy for an extended amount of time, the Quarians that were on Rannoch weren't even certain if there was anybody left alive in the outside galaxy. Facing a famine, the desperate Quarians worked to salvage what little farming equipment they had, and were on the cusp of breakdown when a few surviving Quarian ships returned to Rannoch with some advanced enough technology to help stave off total starvation and exhaustion of available resources. However, the Quarians were not out of the fire - Less than 9 million Quarians had survived the combined war with the Geth and the subsequent battle over Earth. As well, the intervention of the Quarian ships was only a delay of the inevitable. And with a significantly depleted leadership and lack of spaceborne assets, the Quarians were in trouble. Similar to the Elcor and the Drell, the Quarians were considered a race in decline, and, with assistance for them slow and time-consuming given the isolation of their system from the rest of the galaxy, their own insular attitudes that continued to persist even after the war, and the lingering misgivings about the Quarians felt by many races meant that despite their own higher numbers and greater individual prospects than the Drell or Elcor, the Quarians had little allies to call on to assist them. All of these new problems were exacerbated by the continued existence of old ones: the Quarians old issues with immunity and disease continued to pester them, as many individuals had elected to shed their protective suits despite not being anywhere near capable of sustaining themselves. An estimated 200,000 quarians died due to this problem, a significant percentage of their already depleted population. Also, there was significant political discord between the remnants of the flotilla, with Admiral Xen and Koris in a political deadlock as to where to take the species; Koris sought a more peaceful, cooperative stance that focused on reconciliation and diplomacy with other races, while Xen sought to utilize recovered Reaper technology and other dubious means to bring the Quarians to a better position. A new Admiralty was brought in to replace the former members lost, but with so many of the best Quarians killed or lost, these replacement Admirals were largely powerless and inconsequential. Combined with a low birth rate, all the problems for the Quarians considered, even the most optimistic projections for survival were around 160 - 200 years before the species became unsustainable.

The Collectors = what Collectors were still alive, either still fighting for their Reaper masters or awakened by the Leviathans, were destroyed when the crucible was activated.

The Batarians = with a complete destruction of all Batarian colonies and their home system, there was functionally no real Batarian leadership. Only a single Batarian ship survived the battle of Earth, and that ship was a minor cruiser with no significant leadership for their non-existent military. Technically speaking, a single Batarian Commander was the highest authority left for the entire species. However, the Batarians themselves, while losing nearly 80% of their galactic population, were still far from destruction. Due to the large number of individuals living outside the Hegemony upon its destruction, there was still a sizable and sustainable population for the Batarians. With refugees in no real hurry to return to any of their former systems, as well as the utter lack of any real sustainable forces on their homeworld, the Batarians largely left on an exodus for a new world in the Terminus systems, largely leaving their old worlds behind. These worlds were quickly claimed by humanity, and offered to the other races as an informal 'spoils of war'. The remaining Batarians cared little, with an entirely non-existent leadership more concerned with creating a new home than focusing on old grudges that weren't technically their's to begin with. Eventually, the Batarians were able to establish a small sanctum of new colonies and build up a modicum of a fleet that opted to exist within the galactic system, though also in a way were they were largely outside the jurisdiction of the projection of the Citadel force. However, the human organization set up by Shepard continued to keep an active eye on the Batarians, and ensured that they would not become a new enemy or rival to humanity in the future. The Batarians gained a reputation for continued political strife, with new regimes and warlords taking over and causing governments to come and go in the span of weeks and months.

The Geth = completely wiped out upon the activation of the Crucible.

The Leviathans = One of the first goals of Shepard's new organization was to look for any further strongholds or individuals of surviving Leviathans. After a thorough scan of the galaxy using their newly Reaper augmented scanning and surveying technology, they determined that the Leviathans were largely confined to the world they were found on, though the possibility remained open that somewhere else unknown, the Leviathans had more survivors; they may possibly have existed beyond the boundaries of the galaxy itself, on worlds inaccessible to the races of the galaxy, plotting their return on the weakened galaxy now that their ancient foe and predator, the Reapers, had been eternally ended. Despite finding no signs or communication from the Leviathans on their world that they were found on, Shepard took no chances. A battle fleet from Shepard's organization was stationed in orbit over the planet, all mention and records of the planet were destroyed beyond the highly classified information privy to military commanders, all Leviathan orbs that were recovered were destroyed save one that was kept shielded and guarded, and any ship that stumbled upon the system was destroyed with no exceptions, so as to prevent the possibility of the Leviathans ever gaining any useful thralls.

The Raloi = the Raloi, having left the galactic scene upon the Reapers arrival to try and hide, were quickly annihilated when the Reapers weren't fooled by their deception. Most, if not all of the galaxy, didn't care.

The Virtual Aliens = Almost entirely wiped out when the Crucible was activated. Less than a hundred 'survived' due to them being in possession of the bodies of hosts (whose consciousness' were destroyed with the other virtual aliens). These survivors, learning to get used to their new predicament, gathered into a single community in an effort to preserve something of their species. Their community was formed to preserve their species as best as possible, using all information that they could remember to put together a codex on their species, while also assimilating into their new host species. Knowing that for all intents and purposes, they had nothing left but their history, these individuals worked to try and recreate a new artificial environment to sustain themselves and rebuild their species in a virtual world again upon the decay of their bodies, with their consciousness implanted into willing volunteers in the progeny of their host species to create a new cultural group.

Shepard and his best team mate Dogmeat retrieved the GECK and deployed the Water Purifier at the Citadel and cleansed the galaxy of Reapers.

As an upside the Galaxy has clean pure water and no one has to glow Green anymore.

The End.

Themikefest fun little read I've never played a traynor romance.

God reading your posts in other threads and reading this one it seems like you stick to the "calculus of war". I can easily see your story blending into canon

Rane ha not gonna lie it took me a minute to get the reference it's been too long since I played fallout 3

Themikefest fun little read I've never played a traynor romance.

Here's what I posted on another thread

femshep - After recovering from her wounds she settles down with Samantha in their large house and becomes a stay-at-home mother. To this day she is still mad that she can't beat Samantha at chess

Samantha - While femshep was recovering in the hospital, Traynor builds her company, Checkmate Industries, using the dead reapers by melting them down and then using them to help the Alliance rebuild their fleets. Currently she has over 26,000 employees and the company averages over 3 trillion credits/year of revenue. Every January 1st, she donates 1 billion credits to 100 cities to help with rebuilding.

Kaidan - Died on Virnire protecting the bomb. When femshep and Samantha were in Vancouver for drinks, they paid their respects at his grave. A short time later, a statue was built in his honor.

Zaeed - Within a year after the war, Zaeed died of a heart attack. He was a goddamn hero. RIP Robin Sachs.

Steve - After the war, Samantha made him senior VP of Checkmate Industries. With some of his ideas, he designed new modes of transportation that have benefited the company. He is married and has 2 adopted boys.

Ken and Gabby - Both  hired by Samantha to work at her company. They're currently married with 3 children

Liara - Realizing she knew very little about the Protheans, she handed over all Shadow Broker operations to the Volus, Barla Von, so she could pursue her study of the Protheans. When at ruins, Feron is there to help where he can and on occasion Javik helps her.

Javik - Helps the Asari with understand their history was before the Protheans were extincted and at times accompanies Liara on her digsites.

Hackett - Was found brutually murdered in his apartment. When asked, one of the investigator's said it was the most gruesome sight he's seen. Nothing was missing from the apartment except his dogtags. Rumors has it that the families of the deceased from the SR1 killed him in revenge for not having the Alliance investigate the loss of the ship and the death of their loved ones. Another rumor has it that Commander Shepard played a role in his death. The case is still open with very few leads.

Jacob - Brynn Cole came home and found Jacob with another woman. The woman quickly left and Brynn, filled with anger, tied up Jacob and castrated him leaving him to bleed to death. Her whereabouts are unknown.

Joker - After spending 6 months mourning the loss of his sister and father, Joker went and talked with femshep. He admitted it was silly and childish for him to want to have feelings for a robot. He was hired as the lead test pilot at Checkmate Industries. He is now married with 2 small children

James and Ashley - For the next few years both served with the Alliance in helping with the rebuilding. After they left, they opened up their own security company providing security for various companies in the area as well as for Checkmate Industries. Both are  married with 2 children.

Garrus - Went back to Palaven to help rebuild and to reunite with his father and sister. He is currently training new recruits in the military.

Tali - After the Geth were destroyed on Rannoch, Tali decided to stay and help her people.

Dr Chakwas, Greg Adams and Kelly Chambers aka Felicia Hannigan - All three helped with the sick and injured on the Citadel after the war

Grunt - Stayed on Tuchanka to rebuild Aralakh Company

Miranda - She, along with her sister, Oriana, went back to Chronos to repair the station where she helps humanity. Miranda and femshep remain very good friends. Femshep even named her 4th child after Miranda

Rupert Gardner - Opened his own restaurant on Earth. His main dish, Calamari Gumbo, became so popular he opened more restaurants around the world. Today he's very wealthy with his success and looks forward to what the future will bring him.

Samara - Along with her daughter, Falere,  helped Thessia rebuild. Samara found a nice quiet place to live out the rest of her life.

Thane - He died on the Citadel stopping an assassin. On Sur'Kesh, with Koylat present, the Salarians unveiled a statue of Thane in his honor for protecting their councillor.

Mordin - With advice from femshep, he decided not to cure the genophage for the Krogan. He disappeared never to be seen again. Its possible he's studying seashells.

Kasumi - Wrote a book on how to be a master thief. It became the number one seller. Her whereabouts are unknown, but on occasion has met with femshep for lunch in an undisclosed location.

space Hamster - Died a short time after the war. Femshep was in tears for days. She now has a family of space hamsters.

Normandy - Samantha took the ship, had it repainted black and white with Checkmate Industries on both sides and the Queen chess piece painted on both tail wings

Jack - After seeing two of her students killed, Jack gets their names tattooed on her body in their honor. She is now back at Grissom helping Kathlee.

Commander Shepard of the Alliance Engineering Corps won the Reaper War, though not without substantial losses. The Geth were completely eradicated by the Crucible, and EDI was destroyed. The Mass Relays were damaged, but quickly repaired by the council races, thanks in no small part to the help of Rachni engineers.

Under mounting political pressure (and perhaps feeling a debt of gratitude to Shepard for saving everyone), the Council agreed to begin diplomatic talks with the Quarians and the Krogan. While neither race would make it onto the Council in the forseeable future, the acceptance of both races onto the Citadel has begun to knit back together a sorely-damaged galaxy.

In addition to this, and with the support of a majority of the Quarian admiralty board, the Council races began a scientific initiative officially dubbed "Not In Cruelty, Not In Wrath". This multi-species effort sought to carefully return AI presence to the galaxy, treating the developing intelligences as people rather than machines. As stated by project leader Tali'Zorah Vas Normandy, "The initial impression is everything. My people tried to pull the plug on the Geth when they were first created, and were nearly wiped out as a result. Synthetics will be created whether we accept it or not, and our best chance of survival is by offering an olive branch, not a gun." While the program drew heavy opposition from many throughout the galaxy, the tests performed so far indicate that the newly developing AI are not, as was once believed, destined to come into conflict with organics.

In one last act of goodwill, the Council has reopened diplomatic talks with what remains of the Batarians. After a cultural and religious upheaval, the Batarians are willing to abandon some of their old ways in order to survive and flourish in the galaxy. While both sides are resistant to the Batarians joining the council, the dissolution of trade embargos from the Council was met with a vast reduction in the slave trade, which primarily serves as a Batarain imprisonment system now.

Asari diplomatic power was dealt a heavy blow by information that managed to leak out, despite the best efforts of the Shadow Broker. The revelation that a Prothean beacon had been hidden on Thessia, in direct conflict with both Citadel laws and the Asari's efforts to aid the war, created massive tension within both the Asari and the other races. Several Asari politicians connected with the Beacon found their poll numbers dwindling, and the Council ordered a full investigation into other such secrets.

The other council races have rebuilt after the destruction of the Reapers. The Turian military has begun training Krogan shock troops (nicknamed Turtledoves), improving the race's morale and discipline while empowering Council ground forces. Meanwhile, the Salarians continue to monitor Krogan health and response to the Genophage. In a somewhat stunning display of logic and rationality, Urdnot Wrex and Urdnot Bakara approached the Salarians with a rather unorthodox request. Seeing the massive wave of Krogan children that threatened to swarm over the galaxy, the Krogan met in secret with Salarian scientists to attempt to find a method of lowering Krogan virility (albeit without the massive amounts of stillbirths seen before). While critics have called them out for "attempting to restore the Genophage", a majority of the galaxy acknowledges the need for a limiter on the Krogan population.

Fate of the crew:

Ashlely Williams died on Virmire, covering Major Kirrahe's flank as the Salarian team withdrew. Her family name cleared posthumously, the Alliance marine is honored by numerous governments for her work in stopping Saren.

Spectre Kaiden Alenko's versatility in combat and wide range of experiences under Shepard serve the council well. He was bequeathed the Normandy after Shepard's abdication of his position, taking up the mantle of his former commander.

Urdnot Wrex is still clan chief of Urdnot, as well as the unofficial leader of the Krogan people. His patriotism is tempered with rationality, both from his time with Shepard and the presence of Urdnot Bakara.

Liara T'soni still serves as Shadow Broker, though she and Shepard have parted ways somewhat. Her spy network has been mostly uprooted from the Citadel, thanks to an "anonymous" prothean leaking the identities of most of her operatives.

Said prothean lives a life of hedonism. With his purpose in life gone, Javik has decided to explore the wonders that this new primitive world has to offer... wonders which include large amounts of Drell and Hanar followers, even larger amounts of drugs, and as much trolling as can possibly be performed.

Garrus Vakarian serves under Spectre Alenko, though in name only. The two are effectively equals, with Vakarian's leadership experience complimenting Kaiden's own method of command. They compliment each other in battle as well; Vakarian's sniper skills give him reach, while the sentinel's broad array of powers adds flexibility.

Tali'Zorah resigned from the Admiralty Board to lead the Not In Cruelty project. Her experience with the Geth has served her well in the introduction of new AI systems, and her interactions with both Legion and EDI have allowed her to see past organic definitions of life, expanding her understanding of synthetic responses.

Miranda Lawson has taken over the remnants of Cerberus after the Illusive Man's death. She has shifted the focus of the project towards beneficial applications and adaptations of indoctrination. Shiala and the Thorian colonists aid her in her research.

Jacob has settled down with Brynn Cole, and now lives a relatively normal life as a training officer for the Alliance military.

Mordin Solus gained recognition by both the Krogan and the Salarians. His work with the Genophage is currently being monitored by the STG to ensure no further complications arise in the Krogan.

Grunt's still kicking ass and taking names; not much could change his mindset. He and Wrex have become fairly fast friends, with Grunt seeking out any threats to Wrex's rule and, ahem, convincing them to take a better course of action.

Jack continues to teach in Grissom Academy, her biotic squad having suffered only minor losses in the Reaper assault. She occasionally contracts Javik to come teach her students long-forgotten Biotic techniques... and share some long-forgotten narcotics with their instructor.

Samara is still being Samara, gallavanting around the galaxy solving problems as her code permits. She has kept in better touch with her daughter, whose monastery has slowly been rebuilt after the Reaper attack.

Thane Krios died a hero after saving the Salarian councillor during the Citadek ciup. His son Kirrahe has organized a foundation to help cure Kepral's syndrome, as well as writing a book about his father's life.

Legion was deactivated during the Geth awakening.

Samantha Traynor serves as an Alliance analysis expert, having honed her skills through the Reaper invasion. She has quickly risen through the ranks, and is now one of the most highly praised Alliance analysts, with skills to rival the Salarians.

James Vega has graduated from the N7 program, displaying great moral fiber when confronted with a Turian extremist group attempting to attack Tuchanka. With a series of successful missions under his belt, things are looking up for the musclehead.

Especially considering his recent engagement to Steve Cortez, Alliance shuttle and fighter pilot. Their relationship was an unlikely one, but a little lot of alcohol goes a long way towards breaking down inhibitions in the Alliance soldier.

EDI was deactivated due to the Crucible, but her hardware has been crucial in the Not In Cruelty project.

Joker continues to pilot the Normandy, now under command of Spectre Alenko. A newly-created AI accompanies him on the ship; while Joker won't admit it, it reminds him just a little of EDI.

Karin Chakwas plans to serve on an Alliance vessel until the day she dies. Which, considering her medical expertise and surprising physical fitness, won't be for a long while.

As for Commander Adam Shepard... The Spectre abdicated his position at the end of the Reaper war, his ship now given to the second human Spectre. Shepard now serves as a senior advisor to the Not In Cruelty project, working VERY closely with Tali'Zorah to bring a new race of synthetics into the world. Shepard never informed anyone of the events involving the Catalyst, but secretly considers his work the final nail in the Reapers' coffin, denying their core philosophy by using the kindness, empathy, and understanding that shaped both his career and his life.

God reading your posts in other threads and reading this one it seems like you stick to the "calculus of war". I can easily see your story blending into canon

I very much do. I do try my best to make my own story blend better with canon, though I do take some liberties.

I'm not a very rewarding person. Most of the characters that you're supposed to like are ones I ended up disliking strongly. I also prefer a bit of a more complex system, and I like having things be darker and grittier.

I have an honest to God (no, not the one here) EU of a story. I'm not going to bother getting it all down here. Some hints though:

-The Reapers suddenly withdraw without warning, taking the Citadel with them. The survivors huddle around Earth and major planets wondering what the hell happened. Any scouting parties attempting to reach a relay are not heard from, though they are eventually found drifting back near the planets with no recollection and no sensor logs of what happened. Eventually each system independently decides to make a push for their relay and are utterly shocked to find it intact though unpowered. Any attempts to restore it fail. Eventually the relays activate and the pockets of survivors make contact with one another and start to re-explore a galaxy seemingly empty of enemies.

-Shepard suddenly appears in front of some scavengers on Earth and collapses. He is brought to a state of the art medical facility where they determine there is nothing physically wrong with him though their equipment continually malfuctions and/or shows weird readings when they try to scan deeper.

-The races reform governments and a loose coalition with each other as they scour for answers as to what happened to their enemies, on a constant state of high alert. The quarians and geth retreat beyond the Veil and cut off contact.

-Eventually the vigilance slacks and with it, cooperation falters. Tensions start rising between the races over existing resources as well as blame for stuff they did during or before the war (humans for Cerberus, asari for hiding the beacon etc). This devolves into an age of strife, that while tense never breaks out into full on war.

-A secret organization is developed by some key associates of Shepard to manage the tensions and stabilize the socio-political scene while also advancing technologically in case of major external or internal threats.

And that's just the beginning. As for known characters, everyone who can survive the games does, though some will wish they hadn't. Like, really wish it.

These threads <3.

Alright, my turn. If I posted this somewhere already I did not hang on to it, but this will be my headcanon post to end all my headcanon posts...

***************************

Rashad Shepard: armor recovered with dog-chains but all DNA wiped clean, no trace of the body. Some would have believed that Shepard cheated death once again and went into hiding, but his omnitool -- keyed to his vital signs -- sent a "last message" to his closest of friends (> NOT LIARA!!!), indicating that Shepard is, in fact, dead.

In the wake of a great transhuman event-horizon, Commander Shepard's legacy is one of the most controversial ever, with opinions ranging from that of a hero figure and savior to one of a traitor or (by the particularly loony 'toons) possibly an indoctrinated agent. Anyone who knew him knows that Commander Shepard would not have had it any other way.

Also fallen were Mordin (cure-dispersal accident), Legion (destructive upload), Thane (stab-wound, illness).

Synthesis: cyberspace, once exclusive to synthetic life, is now opened to all organics. A medium where vast amounts of data can be passed at light-speeds, organics innovate interesting new tech to expand their capabilities and altogether become more productive than ever. Synthetics are also able to reach out to their organic counterparts safely and learn more effectively while communicating through these channels, promoting peaceful relations and curbing violent encounters. This new phenomenon is called Biotechnical Harmonics, or more simply, harmonics.

Council: only the turian councilor survives the war (yes, that one), leaving it fractured. Though replacements step in, they are kind of overlooked, and eventually the whole thing is overhauled in favor of a network-based council where all species are represented and actually get **** done.

Travel: only a handful of major relays remain, connecting to all major homeworlds save for Rannoch. FTL tech of smaller vessels is improved, such that travel times between star systems are reduced to mere days, opening up efforts to explore uncharted space and expand. Larger vessels (aside from Reaper ships) only make modest gains.

Reapers: an uneasy truce with the galaxy follows, but lack of interest in more fighting and a focus on the future leaves time and improved communication abilities to heal these wounds. Now freed of the Catalyst’s directives, the Reapers’ interests are simple: to share all the knowledge they compiled. The Reapers offer to use their power to help the galaxy rebuild, and most are smart enough to accept, winning over some considerable support. The Reapers also help improve FTL tech and ferry over large groups of refugees back to their homeworlds. A new galactic leadership committee replaces the council and commissions the Reapers to serve as a peacekeeping army (like the U.N.’s IRL, only much less of a joke). In light of their new role/place in the galaxy, they are formally renamed The Guardians.

No trace of their former AI overlord, The Intelligence, remains. It is unclear if his program was destroyed or preserved elsewhere, but regardless, the entity no longer controls the Guardians.

Humanity projects to become one of the strongest civilizations in this new galaxy, leading the way in Harmonics development and having acquired the Citadel space-station in their backyard. Salarians, too, thanks to avoiding much of the carnage of the Reaper War and also getting the jump on Harmonics development. The Turians lost much but will endure and still have the largest military force remaining. The Asari remain devastated in the aftermath of the war, and are many years away from becoming major players again. The Quarians are making a comeback, thanks in no small part to their cooperative relations with the geth. Krogan are cured and rebuilding under Wrex, but some break away and look to topple his regime in the interest of overtaking the galaxy as once attempted before, yet this never develops into more than a fringe threat to the rest of the galaxy.

Characters…

Kaidan: becomes first member of new Harmonics-trained Alliance soldiers called the CyberMarines. Discovers and thwarts a Leviathan proxy-threat on Khar’Shan. Becomes an item with Miranda Lawson.

Miranda: heads an elite branch of the Alliance dubbed the Halcyon Group, where she is affectionately referred to as The Illusive Dame. Halcyon tasks the Alliance’s best and brightest with ambitious projects and priority operations, alongside allies across the galactic aisle. Various former Normandy squad members and crew are contracted to work with this group.

Garrus: returns to Palaven, helps the turian law-enforcement restore order in areas hit hard by the war.

Tali: helps her people build anew on Rannoch, is also an ambassador on geth relations.

James Vega: promoted to LC after the war and graduates N7, following the footsteps of Shepard before him. With Halcyon, Vega gets command of the Normandy and leads various missions into uncharted space, leading the way in exploration efforts where his training serves him well. Becomes an item with Jack.

Jack: lost Shepard in the war, later meets James on the mission with Kaidan and the two become close. Together, they live on Elysium. After the mission, Jack commits to teaching biotic students again at the rebuilt Grissom Academy. The couple also adopt two batarian orphans and have one child of their own. Jack also receives a journal kept by Shepard from the day of his Spectre induction to the eve of The Battle of Earth, which she publishes, earning her a fortune.

Liara: restarts info-brokerage agency with new ship courtesy Halcyon in exchange for valuable intel (which she can now find without Shepard alive to obsess over). Becomes an item with Javik.

Javik: at urging of his friends, puts his paranoia over Reaper threat aside to enjoy the galaxy’s victory; replaces it with paranoia over Leviathan threat, contracted by Halcyon Group on occasion to combat the shadowy threat.

EDI: proves valuable in helping human Alliance engineers make sense of new biotech phenomenon, remains in a relationship with Joker.

Grunt: trusted krogan commander under Wrex, leads the way in taking out hostile threats on former rachni colonies awarded to the krogan, also takes out political opponents looking to topple Wrex’s regime. Occasionally contracted by Halcyon.

Morinth: publishes anonymous e-book of her exploits with Shepard and in the war while also raising awareness to the Ardat-Yakshi conditions. Trains to become an asari-commando. (I did not actually save her over Samara in-game, but I later invoked headcanon power to reverse my actual decision, because Morinth is pretty cool and f*** Samara).

Zaeed: ignored cease-fire during the battle on Earth and got killed in action.

Kasumi: reconstructs her boyfriend via greybox memories (… what? I did not make this up!)

***************************

tl;dr -- a post-cyberpunk galaxy emerges from the war, free from large-scale conflicts/war but rife with competition. Lots of exploration and discovery takes place, lots of intriguing (and terrifying) new tech is innovated. Some interesting side-plots involve Leviathan shadow-wars, Halcyon leading the charge for humanity, the rise of salarian mega-corporations, krogan vagabonds taking over the galactic underworld, etc (I have some stories in the works).

Shepard exits at the height of his legend, while former companions emerge from his shadow and come into their own.

Spoilers ahead if anyone does indeed still read ME fan fiction (this is the 'end game'/'starting point' for a WIP).   ^_^  Warning: 'cheat ending'.

Name: Verity Shepard

End(?):

Having united the galaxy against the Reapers, Verity refused to accept the flawed options presented by the Citadel/Catalyst/Crucible.  However, she awoke to find herself being saved by the last shuttle out of London - yes, it all happened in her semi-indoctrinated mind (bu-dum-tish).  Considered a risk by the fleet, she is incarcerated along with others confirmed or suspected of indoctrination.  Assuming the Normandy and her love Liara were lost in the fight, Verity concedes her lot and wishes to just be left alone in a holding ship of the remnants of the Combined Fleet - what was left of the fleet managed to escape through the Charon relay before the Reapers finally (finally...) decided to shut down the relays and galactic communications.  The fleet is unsure why they've managed to avoid further detection or attacks thus far but life continues on in the fleet; as do old grudges and tensions run high in the fleet.

Fleet notables:

Admiral Hackett: Admiral Hackett.

Helena Blake: Ambassador to the mercenary fleet.

Darna Vosk: Still acts as leader of the Blue Suns, but Zaeed doesn't believe that Darna has the wherewithal to run the Suns solo so he thinks Vido must still be around.

Gavin and David Archer: David looks after his older brother in his infirm years - David needs a routine provided to him and Gavin needs help with daily tasks.

Normandy:

Realising the battle of Sol was lost, Williams ordered the Normandy to flee through the then still working relays to begin Liara's beacon project.  Neither the Normandy nor the fleet is aware of the other's relative success but all assume the galaxy is still lost to the Reapers.

Liara: Laying the beacons of hope for the future, still aboard the Normandy.

Ashley: Commander of the Normandy, adoptive mother to young asari Sha'li (OC).

Garrus: Normandy's XO.

Tali: Aboard the Normandy.  Due to work already started by Mordin during the Collector campaign, EDI and Doctor Chakwas were able to complete his theories and Tali no longer requires an environmental suit.

Vega: Aboard the Normandy.

Steve(!):  Aboard the Normandy.

Zaeed: In the Combined Fleet, still sniffing out Vido.

Samara: In the Combined Fleet, still mourning the Code and her lot.  Lives with Detective Anaya who Samara attempted to recruit into the Justicars but in the field, Anaya couldn't accept the brutality of the code.

Anyone not mentioned died in the Sol assault.  I play a lot on the basis that the Reapers, even when they were able to just move the Citadel on a whim, did not take the galaxy as systematically as they should have.

James Shepard elected to destroy the Reapers with the Crucible. He was recovered by Alliance scouts from the wreck of the Citadel. During the long recovery from his injuries he wrote a memoir of the Reaper War, which became a galactic best seller. After leaving the hospital he received many entreaties to enter politics. Due to his longstanding disdain for all things political, he chose to remain with the Alliance Navy instead. Having seen enough frontline service, he took on the task of rebuilding the navy's training institutions and ensuring that the lessons of the Reaper War were not lost. At Shepards insistence, the rebuilt Alliance academy was named for David Anderson. He then went back to school and earned an advanced engineering degree. He spent the rest of his naval career with Alliance R&D improving its ships and equipment. Shepard also retained his SPECTRE status, with the understanding that he would serve purely in a diplomatic role. He used the respect he had garnered to foster peace and cooperation among the galactic races. Notable achievements included treaties to allow the Krogan to expand and colonize new worlds, convincing the remnants of the Baatarian Empire to join the Citadel races, guarantees of territorial integrity for the Quarians on Rannoch and their former colonies, and a treaty to share all recovered Reaper and Prothean technology patterned after the original agreement on Prothean artifacts.

Shortly after recovering from his injuries, Shepard married the love of his life, Miranda Lawson. He used his influence to secure a full pardon for her and the other ex-Cerberus operatives that switched sides to the Alliance during the war. Shepard and Miranda used the profits from his memoir to purchase a secluded property on Hawaii and lived very comfortably. They adopted four war orphans and devoted themselves to their family and living as normal a life as possible. Shepard insisted on postings on Earth so that he could remain near his family. He lived out his days happily with Miranda, and frequently had reunions with the companions who fought beside him in the Reaper War.

Miranda Lawson joined Alliance R&D and led many advanced bio and biotic technology programs. In recognition of her abilities and her key role in taking down Cerberus, she was offered a place in the SPECTRE program. She turned it down, preferring to focus on research and her family. Free to live outside the shadows, she was finally able to cultivate a normal relationship with Orianna. Orianna inherited their father's company and re-purposed it to do research for the good of all galactic beings. Miranda served as a board member.

Garrus Vakarian returned to Palavan and helped rebuild. Eventually he built a successful career in law enforcement. Unfortunately the line of succession eventually caught up to him and he became Primarch. He handled the job nobly, despite his distaste for politics. He remained Shepard's closest personal friend.

Urdnot Wrex, together with Eve, led his people to a new era of peace and prosperity. With Shepard's support he successfully negotiated for the return of the Krogans' old colonies and the right to explore and colonize new worlds.

Liara T'Soni settled into an illustrious career in academia. She became the galaxy's foremost expert on the Protheans and the Reaper War. Her seminal work was a history of the end of the Prothean Empire, compiled largely from the accounts given by Javik.

Tali Zorah retained her rank of admiral and became the ambassador to the Citadel Council for her people. She worked hard to get the Quarians' former territories restored and assistance for rebuilding their worlds.

Ashley Williams had an illustrious career as the second human SPECTRE, and also rose through the ranks as an Alliance Marine. Human historians agreed that she redeemed the honor of her family.

Kaidan Alenko was KIA on Virmire.

Zaeed Massani retired to Fiji. He visited Shepard and Miranda frequently and became the crusty old uncle to their children.

Urdnot Grunt became the commander of Krogan forces under Urdnot Wrex. He established a new order of Krogan honor and prowess in battle.

Samara returned to Asari space and continued to serve as a Justicar until eventually fading into obscurity.

Jacob Taylor settled down on Earth with Brynn Cole to raise a family. He founded a small but successful private security company. He and his family frequently vacation with Shepard and his family.

Jack was KIA at the Collector base.

Kasumi Goto eventually succumbed to gray box addiction.

Legion and the Geth were KIA when the Crucible discharged.

James Vega was instated as one of the first members of the new N7 program after the Alliance began rebuilding. He was extremely competent, despite having to endure ribbings about being Shepard's protege. All of his missions are highly classified. He never lost his fun loving nature and became the favorite uncle of Shepard and Miranda's children.

EDI was KIA when the Crucible discharged. With significant lobbying from Shepard and Miranda, the Alliance was convinced of the usefulness of artificial intelligences. With help from David Archer, much of EDI's programming and data were salvaged from her hardware aboard the Normandy SRII. She was eventually revived, though her personality changed and she had no memory of her former life.

Joker continued his career as an Alliance pilot. He used the respect he won in the Reaper War to advocate for more opportunities in the service for people with disabilities. He also aided in the recruiting of differently abled people. As a result the ranks of the Alliance were expanded.

Javik toured the galaxy and marveled at how the primitives had evolved. He also worked closely with Dr. T'Soni to expand galactic knowledge of his civilization.
