Atlas.

Yeah? It's big, dumb and slow. Kill everything, leave it for last, take down its shields with Electric Slash, then melee it to death. Or you know, shoot it.

Seriously, I don't get why people seem to hate Cerberus and Geth, it's not like those factions are difficult.

I'll take Geth over Cerberus any day:

I hate smoke grenades that cause a previously locked on Krogan heavy melee to miss

I hate turrets

I hate the amount of shields Atlases have

I hate Atlas homing missiles (now with added stagger and DoT)

I hate Atlas smoke grenades

I hate Atlas synch-kills

I hate that one Nemesis who fannies about at the end of the mission

I hate Nemesis quick-fire shield stripping

I hate 'goon/Atlas stagger next to a Phantom (synch-kill)

I hate 'goons anyway

I hate Phantom DR on-host

I hate it when Phantoms synch-kill you instantly because they've swiped at a team mate; bonus irritation points when playing as a Vanguard and the BC just ends in an insta-shank animation ... really hate that

I hate it when Engineers go into stupid rush mode at the end of the round

I really hate wave 7 gold (soooo many turrets)

I hate the fact that they're kit-dependent - an Assguard, for instance, makes the entire faction a joke

I just hate almost everything about the Cerberus faction - they're just so friggin' rage-inducingly irritating!

At least Geth gold has wave 8 - wave 8 is fun.

... but just give me Collectors - by far the best faction in MP!

I like the idea of Banshees, but please. nerf their annoying screams. I'm not even talking about the shockwaves, I'm talking about that horrible "YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH" the emit when moving around. Ugh. I hate screaming enemies.

But they kinda are my favorite type of enemy.

But without the scream, they wouldn't be banshees...

They'd just be robo-mutant Asari. That doesn't sound as good. Lol

To the subject at hand, I agree on having more unpredictable foes. It'd force you to think outside of the box every now and then.

the banshees screaming was annoying but not as annoying as them throwing their warp balls at me. I would move to the right and then to left and still get hit by them. The banshees would make for good pitchers in baseball

Well then...

Yea, yea, we know this don't do **** for the PC version but hey, it's catchy!

Correct.

My fav in MP is Cerberus. Easiest to beat in solo mode.

Seriously, I don't get why people seem to hate Cerberus and Geth, it's not like those factions are difficult.

Such an analysis presupposes that hate is linked to difficulty. For me it definitely isn't. Collector is my favourite even though they are hardest, and I loathe geth with an unbridled passion even though they are glorified target practice below platinum.

My hate for them is primarily motivated by tedious stunlock mechanics and unpredictable glitches, which are simply annoying to fight against. Yeah, it's pretty easy to simply camp them at range in RHA the whole game and watch their stun cannons and triple tap cheater rockets smash into the wall in front of you as they slooooowwwllyy walk right into your bullets, but it is bloody boring. Trying to play in any other way could either be fine or a disaster depending on how much random nonsense rocket cheaters, wallbanging turrets, 4 shotting sniper primes, pyro trollspawns, bomber "lol you didn't actually hit me with that power now I'll tase you through the wall" moments and frozen/staggered/dead (but still able to fire) hunters the game decides to throw at you, which is the epitome of bad design: "difficulty" based on glitches and taking control away from the player rather than outshooting or outsmarting them.

Cerberus are my 2nd favourite to fight but I admit that their design is terrible. Phantoms and goons are responsible for 90% of the faction's DPS, and the rest of their units are a joke. They are far to easily trivialized by EZ mode weapons such as the Venom or Acolyte because of this dependency as well. Have their fair share of cheap, unpredictable nonsense glitches like the geth as well, such as the physics defying Atlas rocket hitting through meters of solid object and making ridiculous 270 degree turns, or Phantoms who are primed for a sync after performing a single invisible frame of their melee attack, or lolgoons deciding when they simply don't wish to be staggered because screw the game rules.

I don't experience most of those glitches and if I do, then it's rare. :)

For me, those damned brutes were way scarier.  I can't count the times those things would get me pinned against a rock and then ram me till I died (I can't think of a better way to write that, though it sounds terrible :P).  Banshees had that little shudder before they warp and were easier to time...plus their balls of enery were too slow to worry about.  Brutes would just take me out!  Getting to the hammers on Tuchanka...with those brutes...Gah!

Brutes are wimps, especially if you play as a biotic.  2 Biotic explosions, down.

Less if you carry the right mods/equipment.

And actually, I don't find that to be the case at all.   The reapers are the easiest to beat, at least IMHO.  Of course, that may be because when I first played as an engineer, I so desperately wanted something to get those damn husks off'a me.  Then I found, and loved, throw.

Not big on her attacks, but they nailed it with her scream.  Loved it (almost) every time I heard it.  *shivers*

Correct.

My fav in MP is Cerberus. Easiest to beat in solo mode.

... maybe (Geth with a Kroguard is easier - unless Platinum) but it's the faction most likely to result in "Mission Scrubbed" when PuGin' weirdly (in my experience) ... unless it's Dagger ... man, I got so very, very bored of Dagger/Cerberus/Gold coming up when looking for U/U/G. That would normally result in insta-quit when dropped into a GiP.

They're not extremely difficult, probably the easiest faction with the right kit, but for me they're just absolutely no fun whatsoever.

For pure fun factor I'd go:

Collectors

Reapers (except Banshee screams and the odd dodgy, lag-induced Banshee synch-kill; have been grabbed mid biotic charge before)

Geth

WFOP

BSOD

Cerberus

... anyway ... back to the topic at hand ...

Banshees are about the only Reaper unit that provides a challenge (unless you've been in a modded lobby with rapid-fire, 20+ Swarmer-dropping Ravagers) but they do so in a way that's actually pretty cheap (synch-kills are cheap). The fact that the rest of the faction is so innocuous sort of makes it worse - it's like they had to super-charge the Banshees to add some challenge and they did that with teleport > synch-kill... and that seems basically designed to just trash melee kits ... or to make life harder for tanky kits that don't have dodge. Asari, Drell, Vorcha or in fact any kit with dodge can normally get out of the way without any problems.

Then there's the stairs issue. Ah hah Banshee, your grab cannot thwart me now - I have STAIRS! Iffy design there.

The hand of denial is pretty pointless too... basically just turns her into a temporary bullet sponge you have to whittle away at. It comes to something when the best tactic vs a unit is to leave them until last and deplete the spawn budget.

I get that the Reapers need a cover-buster unit and that's part of the Banshees role; but I think I'd prefer it if they had say (lifting) Shockwave combined with Warp. If you're hiding behind cover to regen shields and you get hit with the Shockwave then it's up, up and away followed by a Warp for a Biotic explosion. If instead of a synch-kill at the end of the jump they had a melee that drained your shields/health to regen their own. I dunno, I'm not sure these would be a tonne better ... but it would be more interesting than yet another anti-melee/tank, synch-kill attack at least.

In short - I don't find the scream terrifying, just annoying. And I don't like synch-kills, they're cheap - even cheaper when combined with a teleport that can go through walls.

Interesting.

I played as an Adept. Popping in and out of the walls was a blast.

You'd have to ask the CaptStach3 whether he dodges it in SP or not.   :)

Just make sure you're on a different level! It's the height difference that prevents the grab rather than the stairs as such ;)

You can quite happily stand just upstairs from a Banshee with a Volus Mercenary, armed with a Typhoon and just shoot her. Activate Shield Boost just before any Warp ball she throws connects and you're basically invincible.

If you stand below her, her melee won't connect. At least... that's what happens for me most of the time.

Play as Shadow, Cerberus becomes a victim to you. ;)

120fps Phantom on host would like to have a word with you.

At 30 fps they're a joke because they can't hit you, at 120fps you will die from cross map headshots if you don't use cover and stun abilities.

The banshee is a fine concept, the noise pollution and janky grab mechanics don't work too well in practice. Also a 700 pound banshee grabbing a 2ton krogan wielding a hundred pound hammer is somewhat dubious. Smaller units it makes more sense.

iffy

It makes sense in the way the Reaper units move, banshees flush you out into LOS or into swarming units, the issues is the reapers forces have massive wind ups and telegraphy on melee, contrast this with the Collectors, whom will disable your cheese combos and promptly smash the crap out of you without so much as a "imma chargin mah lazor", as elite units should. The movement speeds and cover patterns between Collector units are also more uniform and cohesive.

If you play on 120fps, it's your own fault. Stick to the standard 60 and you don't have to go up against broken units.

Phantom host issues don't depend on framerate, accuracy + damage is simply an exacerbation of an already extant problem.

Just curious as I am tech ignorant. How do you know. I have a solid graphics card so I'm sure if can do 120 fps. Do you max out automatically or does it set to 60 without an override?
