I'll just start with saying I'm an ME veteran, so I was surprised this hadn't happened/occurred to be before, and that this probably has been mentioned before but...

So I'm running through the 'end-game' of ME2 on an old save, I just needed to get the Reaper IFF, recruit/loyalty Legion, then onto the Omega-4 relay.  As we know, as soon as you get the IFF there's a ticking timer; you can only do one more mission before the Normandy is attacked by the Collector ship and the crew is taken.  This is the anomaly.  When I was forced to use the shuttle I'd just completed Legion's loyalty mission and the only thing I had to do was go through the Omega-4 relay, so I wouldn't have gone anywhere and would have stayed with the ship until the IFF is safely installed.  Thus, Shepard and co would have been on the Normandy for the attack and no doubt repel boarders enough until they could FTL.

Can you do all the loyality missions before getting the iff?

This has been mentioned in a number of threads as one problem with the plot. I am assuming the writers believed that the player would still be doing missions when the kidnapping occurred and thus be taken by surprise.

I don't find it to be that big a deal. There are much worse plot problems in ME2 than this one.

It just jarred this time around.

"I suggest taking the shuttle for your next mission."

"I was about to go through the Omega-4 Relay, but cool, while we wait I'll take the entire combat team and fly around for a bit because plot."

No, because Legion can't be recruited until you've acquired the IFF, and you have to reactive it before you do anything else, or else the "countdown" jumps and you will immediately get yanked off the ship for the Collector attack.

I've always found it weird that Shep takes the entire team with them in the shuttle to do whatever it is they do for the duration of the Collector attack.  Just doesn't really make sense to me, especially since you can only do missions with 2 squaddies at a time.

The whole setup is a mess. If you're a completionist, but also heed the super obvious hint that hitting the IFF might trigger some kind of point of no return, you end up taking the entire team on some kind of joyride for no reason. Whenever I play ME2, I basically leave one of the inconsequential side missions unfinished. Silly, I know, but it makes me feel a little better about it.

Yeah, that's what I do.  Still, even then it makes little sense.

It's not like they could get very far in a shuttle, certainly not through a relay - so where they thought they were going when I was still in the Phoenix Massing, I've no idea.  Must have been sightseeing, it's the only explanation.   :)

*now thinking of stupid oneshot FF detailing this*
