Jade Empire setting and environment was really fun and made me enjoy the game. The story was also really nice, and I liked most of the characters. I would also like to see BW revisit JE, maybe make a prequel or something.

Overall, I wouldn't mind if they never made a Jade Empire game again, but I would really like for them to make another asian fantasy game with a lot of old folklore.

I loved the game. Characters were great, setting was great. Even the story was great, IMHO. I know lots of people saw the twist coming, but I didn't. Enjoyed it immensely, and am hoping for a JE2.

Not a bad game but slightly overrated in my opinion.

The dragonfly mini-games were one of the things I really disliked from the game. Whenever I was given the choice, I evaded.

Bought it, played it, loved it, thought it was way too short.

Available from the BioWare store. If you're in Canada or the US, you can also get it through ncix (or ncixus) .com.

I really liked JE.

Simple combat, but fun nonetheless.

Though I soooo saw that plot twist coming.

I played through it once, and enjoyed it a lot, but I haven't found the time to play it a second time.

I think that even though JE had flaws, each element (story, characters, combat and setting) flowed together to make a great game. A breath of fresh air, really.

Also, Mike Laidlaw's comment about an eventual JE 2: http://www.strategyi.../interview.html

"It’s pretty much no comment. But, you know, we will certainly announce it if it’s going to be coming out. At this point, Jade Empire is a staff favorite and a lot of us love it, so we’d love to revisit it at some point. But right now, we are very focused on Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2."

Might mean anything...

I played it and really enjoyed the story. The gameplay wasn't up my alley, however, so I'm afraid I never made it through a second play-through.

Yep. I played it, liked it, and never played it again. It was fun, but really short and had no replayability.

Yes I did.

I was VERY bummed out about my female open palm ending. Midway through the game someone told me that if I romance that dude, I'd get an awesomely cute cutscene so I did. And it was adorable.

It was NOT worth the shack I ended up in.

What i remember mostly about Jade Empire was that it was the hardest Bioware game to be evil in, The whole water dragon thing was a an act of pure cruelty that made me feel dirty afterwards.. Jade Empire succeeded in that part very well i think.

I agree with you on that one. It was really hard to play as the bad guy to the end. That never happened with Kotor or nwn.

I enjoyed the game, although it was over far too soon.

I enjoyed it. It was very pretty but too short. I like being a completionist but I didn't like that you have to beat the minigame so many times to finish Kang's quest. I've never completed his quest because the minigame was too hard for me.

My PC wouldn't have been able to handle it back in the day and since then I've never gotten around to playing it.

A long post so a skip over for those who aren't interested :)

As usual, I'm late to the party. I'd like to think it is fashionably late...

Some of my random thoughts on and feelings about Jade Empire (JE).

I adore Jade Empire. I've played it at least 6 times. It had such rich elements to it, and some incredibly well written characters and plots... ah, JE is my favourite game with Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) coming in a very close second (I'm a sucker for these kinds of RPGs). I guess this is because JE drew me in in a way no other game has. I adore KotOR and find its main party NPCs better developed within the narrative and the story to be more consistently told, yet the cutscenes in Jade, the environments, the Water Dragon and Spirit Monk arc, and the flavour of the narrative have moved me as no other game has.

And it pulled-off carrying 3 comic characters as part of the PC's group (I didn't like The Black Whirlwind as a character even though I felt he was well written). That was quite an amazing feat.

I found the scenery to be awesome and I enjoyed having my PCs just take some time and "breathe in some fresh air", so to speak. The game really drew me in. I was quite immersed throughout most of it.

I also found the themes in Jade were very well explored. Just one example of a recurring theme is that of duality. It was depicted through Wild Flower and The Heavenly Gate Guardian (forgot his name, darn it). Not just how they affected each other, but also having to do with life and death, good and evil, Wild Flower's young age in contrast to her guests' immense ages... so many things. But it reoccurred in so many other aspects of the game too. Such as the nature of the Water Dragon, what her purpose was and then how she was made use of, the impact of choice - all concerning the duality within everything ranging from the macro scale of the Celestial Bureaucracy and society, to the micro scales within choice and the individual. Um, I'm rambling now, aren't I? Moving on...

There were some things about it I would have liked to be different - and unlike most people who post on it I have read, I did not like John Cleese's character: Sir Roderick Ponce von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard (that is correct, right?), although I do like his name. But I did appreciate why he was there and found the point of his character had a very shrewd implementation (along with his valet Percyval) as did the verbal competition and how the judges went about their judging, especially how they (Sir Roderick vs the judges) contrasted each other so vividly yet they reflected a similarity of purpose within the different implementations emphasized through the differing cultural backdrops. Even in the negatives, I usually can find positive things to add about this game. There are more things I would have like to have been different, for instance: I would have liked more party interactions as a whole and to have had them go deeper, to get to know more about each character; the romances to have been more in-depth and involved even though I was ecstactic about much of what was there, I feel they needed to have more to them; some of the story dragged in parts; and various other things that I won't get into.

I usually don't enjoy twitch-based combat at all, but for some reason I rather enjoyed JE's combat system. And I set myself up with numerous self-imposed challenges such as having to end every combat with full stats or using only support styles with chi to cause damage... stuff like that. Usually I can barely get by on the easiest setting in games like this. Whatever the devs did to make the combat smooth enough for me to be able to play, I appreciate it :)

I do wish the party NPCs had more time devoted to them in the plotting and writing departments. There was so much potential there it almost hurt to see it underdeveloped. Yet many of the non-party NPCs, such as the bun seller and his wife in the main city (forgot its name and their names too), and Chef Wong and Mr Tei, Minister Sheng, and the gang woman and Baker Bei in Tien's Landing were extraordinarily well written and voiced. Loved the whole 'Fen the Flower of the Fields' situation... there are just so many I found incredibly endearing in various ways.

And the quests, I love Jong, and the orphanage, and Aishi the Mournful Blade, and...

So, uh, yeah. Love JE. :D

Oh, and yes, I played BG, I've tried to play BG II but just can't get through it no matter how many times I try. I can't make it past chapter II even though I usually almost finish that chapter before I stop playing it. I find JE far more endearing than the BG series yet I do appreciate BG. But that is just me.

Count me in on some rambunctious support for a sequel!

I played Jade Empire and beat it once only. I intended to complete at least another playthrough, but never got around to it. I did enjoy the game, the story, and the characters though. I'm confused about why people have said that it's short though... I remember it taking me quite some time to beat it.

If, or when, they do make the sequel though... they can implement motion-sensing controls. ~_^ Either the Natal or PS sticks can work, but Natal would probably work the best, and have the highest chance of being used on the PC as well. Of course, this would all depend upon how it's all implemented in practice rather than theory, so to speak. It would be a lot of fun to fight off hordes of enemy fighters using the reaction speed of body motion rather than pointing-and-clicking. Using magic in that sort of system would be pretty fun too.

Of course, that method of control would have to be optional so that those who don't get motion-sensing controls, or just don't like using them, will still be able to enjoy the game.

Anyway, a Jade Empire 2 would be nice... and reading this thread has tempted me to look into replaying it again. Hm... I don't remember if I did the harem romance the first time around or if I stuck with just one of them... :) I do remember being surprised to have that happen though. To think that Ashley also had the chance of allowing that to be repeated in another Bioware game... >_<
