Is it possible to get the dance with Sera after doing Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts before Here Lies the Abyss?

I like to have as broad a range of wold states as possible, so this playthrough, I'm planning to leave Hawke in the Fade and save Alistair. If I'm going to go through this much pain, I'd like to at least have Alistair meet Kieran. I know that I'll have to use a save game editor, and I'm OK with that, but I'm starting to think I might just want to abandon this playthrough and start over with a different romance. I've got one Sera romance playthrough underway already, and I'm not sure I have the patience for a second. I do like Sera as a friend, but I'm having a difficult time with the romance, and I'd kinda like to just get it over with.

I get where she's coming from. All her life, she has never been able to rely on anyone but herself, so she has major trust issues. She has a bit of an avoidant personality, ignoring or flat-out denying anything that doesn't mesh with her view of the world. It makes for a complex, highly interesting character... which is ironic, because never was there a character who had simpler tastes or a more vulgar sense of humor. So yeah, I definitely appreciate her as a character, and I love the banter when I bring her in the party... but I'm having a hard time with the romance. It isn't that there's anything wrong with it! It's very well done, and I can see why a lot of people really like it. It's just that I'm thinking that if this thing doesn't go anywhere soon, I'm going to jump ship.

TL;DR: Is it possible to officially start a romance (and get the romance dance) with Sera before fully completing Here Lies the Abyss?

Did you "lock in" first - get her to 100% approval and have the conversation where you flirt with her and she accepts you? Or was she still saying "Yeah, I like you, but I need more time"?

Because that's where I'm at. I'm sitting at 116 approval out of 125 and I'm running out of ways to gain approval without completing HLtA or Still Waters. I think I can get it up to 121/125 by completing Still Waters and executing the mayor, but I have no idea how I can gain those last 4 points.

Hmmm....I don't exactly remember :/

I remember it took me a while to get what youre saying, the full fledged romance thing and I cant remember if I got that before or after Wicked Hearts. But I do know that Sera was the one that came to the balcony.

I also remember that I got tons of Sera disapproves and Sera greatly disapproves, and I still got to romance her

I approve of your siggie.

I don't know when romances are officially locked in. I romanced Blackwall with one character, but only walked the ramparts with him. Then went straight to the Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts quest. I got the dance with Blackwall. I "committed" to Blackwall after Halamshiral with the balcony kiss scene.

Compare that to IB, for whom, I had to have a convo with about "riding the bull," AND I had to talk about "What it all meant" before I could get him to dance with me at Halamshiral.

So it would appear each character has their own level of commitment necessary before they'll dance with you...either that or maybe it's approval based?

You have to lock in Sera's romance before you can get her to dance with you, if you don't you get Josie.

Thanks for letting me know, and thanks to everyone who replied. So now the decision is whether I

- Abandon this playthrough and duplicate the world state with a different character

- Resign myself to not dancing with Sera

Not sure which it will be. I hate to lose this character since she may be the best looking qunari I've ever seen (pure luck, as my CC skills are hit and miss), but I don't think I have the fortitude to delay a main quest for much longer.

And she doesn't lock in until after Here Lies the Abyss is utterly completed, does she?

I seem to remember a part of that was you had to get her to talk about the Wardens in Denerim, so after the Fade?

While I'm usually a fan of spacing things out more, I am not a fan of forcing players to take a specific route through the game to do it.

No, you can lock it in before that, I do every PT. You just have to go through ALL of her dialog options before you get the "lets go romp" talk, and be at the point where you can do Here Lies the Abyss..

Alright, hoping for the best here. I hadn't done the "I get why you aren't like other elves" question, nor the "Does your group accomplish much". I was avoiding them because they sounded kinda patronizing. Did them now, and the associated War Table operation. Approval is now 125...

And it worked!

Locked in before HLtA!

Now off to Crestwood to pick up Alistair and then off to Orlais!

Thanks for your help!
