I think you missed the point... Speed running is all about completing a run as fast as possible

Actually no, you did.. Speed running is A) Having fun B) setting up challenges. There are all sorts of DIFFERENT speed runs with their own rules and categories. For example, speed runs that are new game plus (with gear) vs straight up new game (no gear). All boss runs, vs skipping them. All locations vs skipping. Etc.

There is isn't much challenge to the new game plus version, which is why most speed runners don't do it.

So yes, I am snubbing them for not doing enough of a challenge, because I already completed this challenge months ago on harder terms. I couldn't say anything due even upon release because I promised wb I wouldn't reveal how we did it publically (at his request).

Now... new toys, new class, and super easymode available. I'm just not impressed.

speedrun is a play-through (or a recording thereof) of a video game performed with the intent of completing it as fast as possible.

I can't believe that anybody could even think otherwise.

Pork is spot on. Speed runs are about being as fast as possible. You are referring to your own idea of a just plain ol' challenge, not a speed run. And I really don't think anyone cares about impressing you, Drasca. Sorry.

To further this, even exploits and glitches are allowed for speedruns. Just look at some of the most notable records for game like Portal or Mario 64. And those are recognized by Guinness World Records.

There are glitchless speedruns, any% speedruns, 100% speedruns, etc.

And plain hacked speed runs, like that Super Mario World one where you complete very specific moves in the game that reprogrammes it and rolls the end credits on the first level...

If it can be done in the stock version of the game then its allowed. Of course there is restrictions on other speedrun ladders, like wavebend said.

However, the most important ladder is usually the one that has the fastest time at the top of it.

I can't remember if that instance was accepted, but it was actually rewriting the game coding, so it would be like using Cheat Engine to rolls credits on Inquisition 5 minutes into the tutorial level. Officially, the main SMW speed runs counted are the "11 Exit" (fastest possible route to Bowser's Castle) and the "96 Exit" (100% completion). There are sub-categories to those, such as not being allowed to use capes, but those two are the main counted ones. I can't find any real leaderboards for Credits Warp (glitch) runs likely because they are not taken as seriously, but I've seen videos of it being just over 3 minutes.

Don't mistake me... I applaud the ingenuity. I'm not sure if they just figured it out or had some help from a former SMW programmer, but you will never hear me discount someone for winning with an extremely clever loophole like that.

Oh I've seen that one. It was crazy. There was a huge article on Kotaku about it.

Competition and records....brings back memories of myself and buddies always trying to one up each other.

There was a game called 'Gold Runner' a side scrolling shooter that got tougher with each level that my roommate was very good at, he put up a great high score.  I discovered that at the end of a level if you flew back to the start of the level you could just keep doing the 1st level over and over again, which I did and put up a huge score bumping him out of 1st place.  He comes home fires up the game and his eyes almost pop out of his head at my score.  He then proceeds to play for about 4 hours straight and beats my score the legit way, most impressive.

I told him how I had got the top score just after he was done.  I won't repeat the words he said to me on this family forum.

Sounds a bit like DAIMP.
