If you quadruple the awesome they might almost reach any other companions race level of awesome. Sweet!!!

I'd use the races from the Myth series of books by Robert Aspin assuming you stopped at little myth markerish where the suck started. I loved how the races when you initially meet got some racial stereotype many of which would fit fine for sci-fi tropes of aliens. But when you hit their world most the stereotypes fall apart. They still have cultural influences that shape them but it never is as simple as you first saw.

Outside of that no specific desires. Maybe some truly alien thought processes but that's hard to really do well.
