Hey, everyone!

In order to provide a better experience on our forums, we have decided to reduce the number of public boards. These changes will take place over the course of today (Monday, August 24th).

In part this is intended to bring some of the smaller but similar boards together. For instance, the customization boards such as Character Creator and Classes & Builds have been combined into Combat & Strategy, and the Multiplayer subboards have been merged into a single Multiplayer board. For most of these merges, we found that our users tend to post in the larger, more prominent forums already, and our changes reflect that.

You'll also notice that instead of individual News & Announcement and Feedback & Suggestion boards for each game, we now have these boards for each game franchise. This way, the latest news and feedback for each series will be easier to find.

We've renamed Scuttlebutt to General Discussion, and we'll no longer have separate sections for spoilers vs. non-spoilers. Instead, we will expect posters to be more diligent about hiding spoilers and labeling threads that contain spoilers.

Finally, we have removed the Off-Topic boards. We want to keep the conversations on our boards focused on BioWare and our games. Since other communities do exist for such off-topic discussions, we feel it's important to foster conversations within our community that can't be found outside these boards.

Thanks,

The BioWare Team

Well, here goes nothing ...

Thanks for taking time to announce this.

Respectfully, what concerns me more is the attitude of spoiler-sensitive users towards... well, everything. In the spoiler section, you currently feel free to talk about everything, from big revelations to basic stuff. In the non-spoiler section, everything tends to be considered a spoiler. Let's give it a try, but I suggest you keep an open mind towards reverting this. I can see lots of tension coming from this.

Well, this is unfortunate. Off-Topic was the only bastion of sanity left in this place.

Removing off-topic..

Well that's the most assured way to make sure I'll be not visiting these forums at any point in the future. It's such a load of crap. No point in spending any time here without it..

As a user of both the DA:I forums and the off-topic forums I'm going to say that removing the off-topic is a bad idea... mainly because if it wasn't for off-topic I'd have been driven away from the vitriolic nature of the DA:I forums and the DA:I forums is pretty toxic.

Who do I have to talk to in order to convince those in control that the removal of the off topic section is a terrible idea?

No seriously.

Do you guys have any idea how many relationships you're breaking?

Hell, not only the Anime and Manga thread but countless others.

The Off Topic is like my facebook, I've made tons of friends there.

It's bullshit and you peeps know it. "A focus on BioWare games" my ass.

Well that's me never coming to this **** hole ever again, that's for sure.

Just wow.. there are poor ways of handling it and then there's how Bioware is handling it. Atrocious

Bioware games are awful, but the community here is great.

This is pretty low tbh.

And it's all locked already.

That's not a lot of time between the announcement and execution. Can't help the feeling that this is a bit forced.

We will of course be monitoring how it goes. In our experience this tactic does work on other boards, it just takes a bit of getting used to and a bit more mindfulness by posters. We will continue to keep the Dragon Age: Inquisition spoiler/non-spoiler sections separate for now, but will be merging them down the line at some point.

Yeah. What the hell. I bet this will just lead to off topic stuff in other sections too.

Just out of curiosity how is the going to be monitored? Currently the moderators are... not as efficient as one would think 12 mods could be.

Our time had run out. We watched the white doors open… Were they doors to heaven…? Or to hell? The thoughts barely had time to flutter through my mind before everything went white. We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.

I'll echo that removing off-topic isn't a good idea.

You can have plenty of discussion about BioWare only stuff while keeping off-topic around. It's good for the community itself to have boards where you can just talk about gaming in general or whatever else you want to make a thread about.

It'll mean I stop largely posting here too likely. It's not that I want to, but ME3 MP boards are pretty dead these days and ME:A boards are a lot of repeated threads just asking for random features. There isn't much to actually post until we get closer to ME:A being released.

This really is atrocious.

How about that RWBY thread? Over a third of a million views I brought to something some Bioware fans could connect around, and now poof, done.

This is STUPID AS HELL.

locking the offtopic, seriously? you really hate your community, do you?

btw, you remember last year? "offtopic groups are no longer allowed, you can discuss offtopic in the offtopic-forums". yeah, of course we can...

They are literally ripping the heart out of closely knitted groups that depened on that section of the forums and without leaving any time to fix a new spot to meet.

What do you think's gonna happen without an off topic section of the forum? All that off topic stuff is gonna be brought into other sections. It will happen. That section is a place for the community to unload about everything outside of Bioware. Without it, every other section is gonna get muddled.

Man I don't want to leave this place after over 50K posts and being told by others to make it to 100K but this is seriously killing any motive to stay here.
