Wait, does this mean that the contract of the community manager prevents him from posting on their own forum?!? Just when you thought it could not get more ridiculous.
Yeah if we're getting to the point where the community manager says "I'm not allowed to interact with the community...", I don't know what to say.

I think he's not allowed to speak his mind, only deliver what BioWare and EA ask him to deliver. So if he's not responding, it's because BioWare and EA chose to not answer anything and focus on their work instead. Basically, their silence means either we move on and/or we play by their rules.
You are probably right. Just saying, you gotta love it when people are forbidden to speak their mind about anything. I get NDAs and stuff like that but this is hardly a matter of the future of the company or any of their products. The interview you linked before actually makes it pretty clear how messed up this all is. I just listened to it and the important part for this topic is starting at 16:00 (I recommend everyone who is interested listen to that).
When asked to comment on the forum changes (she did that very carefully, good on her btw), all that he can say is a lot of uhs and ahms and ultimately an "I can't talk about it". I am not blaming Conal for this but honestly, if they have to be that rigorous with what they say about such a simple topic, than something is seriously wrong in my opinion. I am so glad I don't work in this business where everything seems to work on some sort of algorithm and there doesn't seem to be a shred of human input left. This is what I think changed in the last 8 years or so and it may be frustrating for us but it must be even more frustrating for them. This is just sad.
EDIT: Ok, it's been clarified that Teddie Sage's quote above is actually just his assumption, not solid info. Still, I'll let this post stand since I think the answer to the linked question in the interview was the real point this post was all about anyway.

Well, not every Community Managers are PRs. The last PR they had was Merizan and she left the boards because it was too chaotic and she wanted to move on in her life. There are probably restrictions in some of their contracts that don't allow 'em to speak freely or they have to be very careful about what they say. Mr. Gaider is probably the only exception to that rule.

Alright people. He's not allowed to comment on this thread. I figure it's part of his contract apparently (something mentioned in the video). A moderator will have to shut down this thread once it dies out or goes too off-topic, I reckon. Good thing we have the VSN meanwhile.

This is just sad. How did we got from known, active community managers to "I'm not allowed to speak you."?

You "figure"? Like do you actually know or is this just an assumption?

Assumptions and hypotheses are the only things we can do right now since we've been abandoned.
We are orphans, LPPrince... how does that make you feel?

I wouldn't present any assumptions or hypotheses without clarifying 100% that they're assumptions or hypotheses or else you get people that immediately believe your ideas are facts that are in practice. See above posts.
As for feeling like abandoned orphans, it'd be great if Big Boss would stop by and save us. You know, without picking us up and then throwing us on the ground real hard before fultoning us up out of the blue.

Community Managers in the past have always come from marketing and not public relations. Marketing and PR are slightly different groups within EA. The difference was a few years ago we started an in-house group that handles the BioWare "brand" as it were. That is what Conal and Sean handle now and Jessica started. This includes things like the BioWare Base, the BioWare Blog, and these forums, and a few other things. You can hear Conal talk about this a bit in that YouTube interview.

I'm getting tired of seeing closed threads thrown into Off Topic as if OT was a waste bin for the forum. Saying this because I've just noticed the most recent example. For a second I thought OH MY GOD A NEW THREAD IN OFF TOPIC IS IT OPEN
Realized it was just a dead thread thrown in there because why not? Trash gets taken out on Wednesdays and Sundays in my neighborhood.

And? So Conal can talk on the forums? Does he actually have input? Because your comment in the other thread about him being on vacation makes it sound kinda like he went to PAX then took vacation and just an hour before all that, decided to shut down off topic. Seems like he'd hoped this would all have gone away by the time he got back.

Oh look, another ME3MP spam thread moved to Offtopic. Again it's only moved not locked, though I suppose this time it doesn't make a difference.
I wonder what would happen to a Hotel if it used its lobby as a trashbin for unwanted guests ...
Oh, come on, mods. Can't you at least pretend to try?

Not that that's not appreciated, but shouldn't there be a forum that only moderators can see where you can put threads like that?

I think there's little to do in favour for our sanity (read: us feeling welcome on the board as opposed to merely tolerated hype generators for unreleased games), other than reopening the Offtopic section.
Mind you, I don't mean to pressure you personally or hold you up to responsibility. Frankly, I have no idea whom to hold up to responsibility, because I doubt Mr. Pierse made this decision alone and it would be unfair to just place the blame on the only face we see, but this whole locking down Offtopic, making the community stronger business is a farce.
BSN isn't a warzone and even if some people in the higher echolons of BioWare think it that way, Offtopic was the closest thing there was to demilitarized zone in this board as it goes.
Gonna continue asking the storks to provide 12 more Jesse's.
I thought we had settled for 24 half-Jesses?

Indeed. And that is where it is now.
Maybe that could be Standard Operating Procedure from now on, instead of using a closed forum.
