How would you know how many came back? How would you know they reigned in their behavior?

Because I read most of the threads in off-topic, and I could see the frequency of posts that violate the rules not being very high. I also spent a fair amount of time in the DAI feedback forum and the MEA forum, and I can say the level of hostility in OT was lower than those places were or still are.

Considering my posts have been moderated about a dozen times in the last year or so and most of my posts are in OT and, as you claim, not at all noticable, your assertion that OT is not moderated seems hollow to me. BUT, if it is entirely based off the report button, as you claim, perhaps there is something to be addressed there to. Very interesting, indeed.

Most of your 10k posts are in off-topic yet you think this was a grand idea? lol, that's pretty... well, good for you, huh? What threads did you post in?

With this term "hostility" you bring yet another good point to the fore. The differentiation of "hostility" and "toxic". To explain, only some hostility is toxic and not all toxicity is hostile.  Like encouraging banned users to stay on the forum isn't an openly hostile act but is a insidious toxic act. You understand this, right?

No, really though. Was it the anime thread? Did you have a name before LonelyBook that I might recognize better?

If not, you should watch PMMM. It's a great show.

lol

Since you blocked me I guess this doesn't matter.

But calling people names isn't really helping.

Even if CS was a spammy sort of person with attention seeking tendencies and sockpuppets.

She doesn't deserve that sort of vitriol.

An active moderator on the forum might have more quickly curtailed those instances though, indeed.

As long as the moderator is a PMMM fan.

Toxicity, used to convey the meaning "Harmful" has really nothing to do with what Off-Topic was.

I've seen much worse flamers, trolls, and any kind of harm to a community in other places, than those I've seen in the Off Topic alone.

Much worse means they were insulting openly the parents and relatives of other people, repeatedly, or provoking reactions through the use of the "semi-intelligent critic" whilst using blasphemy, insults to the dead, fake identities and so forth.

The worse I've seen here is a multitasking troll (*snipt*) and many people flaming commonly as usual. The first is one of the problems that was to be adressed immediately, the second ones could have been dealt with easily and swiftly.

Nothing about these things has been done.

In a forum dedicated to the RpG (namely D&D and other PnP) they were so strict to even ban (or threatening to ban) a person because they thought you were too bitter or sarcastic, even though this was their thinking and not ruled by the forum regulation.

If their yardstick was applied here, hardly the OffTopic could have been saved, whilst the other sections (the marketed/promoted ones) would have been ERASED and further becoming depopulated (if surviving).

Why are you arguing with nonsense if you're not gaining anything?

You don't see the logic here or you have to do the contrarian at all costs?

Contrarian? No, but it's certainly possible to make that mistake, as I've been called such twice now. Pyrrhonian is an accurate descriptor for the ideal undertaken. It's why I'm so popular.

Do you see nothing in your post that could plainly be seen as openly hostile to another forum user? *hint:This isn't a trick question, I'm not talking about me*

Other forums are other forums. BioWare can set the standards they want and moderate as they will and are able.

To be fair.

CRPG is not the best example of OT posters. He is very argumentative and says stuff like that. Just like CS loves to spam. Both issues easily moderated if the moderators gave a hoot.

Anyway. We've gone on and on about this, and I doubt BW's reason was anything so wrought out.

They just don't want us here anymore because we're wasting space not talking about their products.

And they don't even have the courtesy after over two weeks to explain why they shut down a whole community with 12 minutes' notice. Here you are 'turning over stones' to find out the answer when they could just freaking tell us what the answer is. Recon may have been blunt but he has a point, why are you doing their job for them?

Just watch PMMM. It's better than this.

*Ice - Theme of Puella Magi*

If there is some way you can convince me of the relevance to this thread of PMMM I will watch it. BUT, in exchange, you have to read P.D. Ouspensky's The Psychology of Man's Possible Evolution, all the way through. It's a very short book on self awareness and is relevant to thread in the sense that a person should be deliberate.  :alien:

Oh, I'm not so offended by CRPG. As far as I can tell, while the post was contentious, rude and a little mean-spirited there was an attempt at constructive thought put into it. A post can be kindly worded, very mean-spirited and thoughtless. You know what I mean?

It's only been two weeks, that is not nearly long enough to discover the effects of closing OT and, even maybe, to consider what happened with those that chose exile.  Intrigue and culture, it's like milk and cookies to some.

It's a thread about all the conversations we had in off-topic that were too hot for BioWare to handle, evidently. One of them is how you should watch PMMM. If you really think posts like that deserve a forum being locked-- if that's your gauge for a terribly toxic environment, while CRPG using misogynistic profanity ain't so bad, maybe you should read that book on self-awareness too.

Watch this one too, btw.

Sounds unhealthy.

Regardless, since there is some vague relevance to the thread I will address this:

Many of my posts are in OT. 4000+ in the music thread alone. Almost all those posts were inspired by BioWare games, the forum threads or the users. There were some that noticed and responded; they are the ones that matter most to me.  <3  <3  <3  <3  <3  <3 And one for those who noticed and enjoyed those posts but never said anything.  <3

"Too hot for BioWare" sounds like the clicks of a defense mechanism.

As for reading the book again, I'm already part way through.  I will be quizzing you, in PM, if you claim to have read it.

You aren't convincing at all of any relevance of PMMM to this thread.

And right now, what I'm seeing as the most toxic problem that spawned and respawned from parts of the OT was banned users.

Lonelybook you're making as much sense as Tony Abbott's stance on anything. Which is to say nothing.

Also you don't understand snark and you should develop a sense of humour. I heard PMMM can help you with that.

The sophist apologetics going on here is quite amusing. My hope that we'll ever get an official response from BioWare is steadily dwindling, so reading these weird, vague justifications is one of the things that draws me back here.

Personally, I just find it hard to believe the whole toxic argument. This is about actively killing the forum community to reduce resource drain and overhead first and foremost. BioWare would gladly kill off 90% of traffic in the game sections if they could. If it was about toxic users, they'd permban the likes of Xilizhra, who threatened to set a BioWare employee's car on fire with him trapped inside. A Dragon Age section regular, fwiw.

Though also fwiw, looking up Lonelybook's user name history, I can verify (s)he's spent a lot of time posting in The Lobby. I recognise the name from when I first started using this site beyond occasional lurking. So hopefully that dispels some of the talk about LB not ever visiting the Lobby.

I can't speak to how much he felt part of the Off Topic community because I haven't seen him post or interact in the same kind of threads I post in, for years. But I hope that this line of discussion is shut down since it's not really here or there.

Oh.

Oh.

I do remember that name.

I've had exactly one interaction with them.

lol.

They got one of my posts deleted.

This all makes more sense now.

Not as much sense as watching PMMM, tho.

I normally try to keep it marginally relevant to the conversation at hand.

Not much conversation to have here tho.

Just waiting for an explanation that will never come.

Kinda hard to care in this scenario.

But yes, thread relevant discussion: explanation, please.

From the devs, preferably.

Either why OT needed to die, or why PMMM is based Japanese animation.

This thread's gotten weird.

On topic: still in mourning for Off Topic over here. The Workday cheer thread on the VSN isn't nearly as active as this one was. :(

Any other gathering of Bioware forum goers won't be as active as this was. Off Topic and the forum as a whole I mean.

I wish we could've talked about your dancing here. If I'd of known earlier I'd of talked to you about it a bunch, probably. Even with my non-dancing.

Though since our little talk I've been freestyle dancing a bit. Poorly, but hey its something.
