We now go live to Ground Zero, a.ka. the Off-Topic Lobby to our present reporter Liza Starshine. How's it looking over there, Liza?

Liza: Chris, I'll be frank and say that it's not looking that great.

So it would reasonable to assume that moderators will now allow more latitude for what qualifies as "on topic", given that there is no "off-topic/community" section any longer. Of course, just because it would be reasonable to assume that doesn't mean that's what the admins here actually intend.

Correction: the fact that it would be reasonable means that it is most certainly not what the admins intend.

I think my signature is rather relevant to this discussion.

You know what hurts? I'm so used to going to the Off Topic section that I'm still occasionally clicking on it when I'm trying to get to this thread.

I keep refreshing it hoping something will change. :(

Now I'm really hot under the collar.  What is the deal with the restrictions on posting in the DA forums?  I own all 3 games, the first 2 ME games, and several games prior going back a good decade, at least.  I have been an active member of these boards since I got DA3.  The original restrictions were already incomprehensible, but now they got even worse.  The feedback & suggestions board was moved under "DA Franchise", and now, I can't post there either.  I have many posts there, some quite recent, and now I can't continue ongoing conversations.

PLEASE ALLOW ME TO POST!  There is no reason for this exclusion.  I am your longterm customer.

In order to provide a better experience on our forums, we have decided to reduce the number of public boards. These changes will take place over the course of today (Monday, August 24th).

Actually loving that part.

"Did you post it?"

"Yeah just clicked 'Post'!"

"Okay guys! GOGOGO"

CP always wanted to close that forum down

If that is the case, it would be great reading the rationalizations for marginalizing the OffTopic playerbase datapoints.

@Conal

Care to share the valid reasoning for closing the offtopic?

When you're on the opposite side of the Cap't then you're absolutely on the wrong side of things!

This is what it leads to.

And this is how it should have gone for the guy who suggested this idea in the first place.

There's a fall from grace joke in here somewhere and that's going to get me on the topic of PST which is far better than discussing the clusterfuck BW wants their board to become.

It's almost amusing in a rather gut wrenching sort of way since the community of OT is what kept me coming back and this is the second longest community I've ever stuck around this long in. Oh well, time to update my bookmarks to groups til they decide to can that too.

Even if Bioware returns Off Topic, I won't love them for it. The fact that they thought this was actually worth trying out/doing says enough.

I see these changes enacted without any prior announcement have been received brilliantly.  It must mean that this is the absolutely right thing to do!  Because everything good has to be tolerated first?....until we get used to how bad it is...and lower our standards...until um....the time comes to cut out more content! :)

They clearly want things to get worse. Must be why they did this. Every single forum I ever visit has an off topic section, this is the first I've ever been to that decided to get rid of it. Foolishness.

I wake up early to upload a new video on youtube and I get this?

Call me DSP because WOOOOOOOOOW.

Notes on my Let's Play since I am never going to finish it now:

- 6-8 chapters remaining, 5-7 as normal chapters with the last as an epilogue.

- After defeating the MP Brigands, the Lobby receives word of one more enemy out of the Warrens.

- BioWareMod02 escalating the situation previously hinted at. With LPPrince failing to stop the Lobbyists, BioWare staff saw that reforming the Lobby was a waste. It had to be destroyed. I am not joking, this was actually a plot point I had prepared for since new bosses were introduced with the Houndmaster patch. Perhaps I brought about the apocalypse on us all...

- The Formless Flesh boss from Darkest Dungeon would represent an amalgamation of BioWare Staff and Moderators including David Gaider, Mike Laidlaw, Allan Schumacher and any BotMod with a personality.

- They would have The Master from Fallout 1 as their avatar and speak of the community, as well as using quotes and memes like "toxic forums" or Allan hating everyone.

- All three parties to do battle individually with the Formless Flesh, with Photoshop and selective screenshots making it look like a collective effort all at once. I preferably wanted Sim or Recon to get the kill shot but whoever gets it, gets it

- Depending on how lazy I am, set myself or David7204 up as a surprise final boss as the Gibbering Prophet in the Ruins for 100% boss completion. Hammering home that the worst thing about BSN isn't the moderation, it's the users.

- Fast Jimmy also a candidate for Gibbering Prophet, as that would resolve the cryptic Dominus/FJ interactions over the course of the LP. The idea being that Jimmy is a raving Prophet hailing the Doom of RPGs because of Save Imports who is only docile and lucid because he's bound by Dom's magic. However, the bastards refused to die during normal play, making it impossible to set up logistically. Could still happen if they went down against the Formless Flesh but it didn't happen during the LPPrince fight like I was quietly hoping.

- The epilogue will have the Lobbyists honouring those who had fallen. War memorial plaque Photoshop, as well as profile epilogue blurbs for those who survived.

- Bison overcomes his DotA 2 addiction only to fall pray to League of Legends. Dio Demon becomes a well known DM but his family believes he is actually a BDSM Dungeon Master. Dominus goes cold turkey on MLP, only to have Recon send him sexually suggestive Luna imagery under the guise of "testing" his resolve. Etc etc.

- With peace finally restored, the remaining Lobbyists realise that they aren't that close after all, and dissipate, retreating to their own threads and social groups. They fought to save the Lobby, now that it's saved, they don't really feel connected to it anymore ala Frodo at the end of LotR.

- Ending is definitive enough for me to quit writing the LP, but open ended enough for the Lobbyists to rally together once more when new Darkest Dungeon content is released. Probably the former because I'm lazy.

I do have to say though, that I enjoyed writing Darkest Dungeon the most. I know Fallout 2 or JA 2 were probably my most popular but I had to try harder for edgy satire whereas I could be a little more relaxed with Darkest Dungeon and focus on a good story/combat flow and the week to week system was pivotal in me sticking to it for so long.

Wish I could cap it off, but that's life. C'est la vie. It was fun while it lasted.

Anyways, add me:

Crusty on Steam. BraindeadBroom might also work.

I never used the off-topic forums, but removing them is a stupid idea. It's a terrible excuse as well that other places exist. People come to these forums to discuss Bioware games but also things not related to Bioware, every successful community has a space for general chat.

Also the manner in which this change happened is infuriating beyond the already mad levels of stupid that the decision itself holds.

Guys, rolling "Quest help and walkthroughs" into "Story, campaign, and characters" may not have been your best move. People who need help with a quest will not want to (and should not have to) dig through 14 pages of random character threads to get to the one they need.

Well, as if Bioware couldn't become even less fun, they certainly have managed to duck under even that very low bar.

Very bad move from a personal perspective, but expected. Bioware's been trying to shake me off for years. If I liked it, it had to be removed, whether in-game, or on the forums.

Congratulations. You did it. I'm leaving; I get the message!

The only real reason I had to come here after 6 years was to participate in Off-Topic. At least then, I was exposed to what was going on with Bioware in the event you actually were going to surprise me and find yourselves again. No longer I suppose. BW's games since 2011 certainly haven't engendered much inspiration. No wonder Bethesda kicks the living snot out of you guys time and time again...oh, and they still maintain an off-topic forum.

Its been a pleasure getting to know some of the people here.

It's off to the Bethsoft forums. Hope to see some of you there.

Best regards.

No more Off Topic?

Well, it's been a good run.

More off topic in car forums and Reddit for me.  :wizard:
