To answer a few questions:

We will continue to monitor how things go with these new changes and make future decisions based on the results.

For now, Off-Topic will remain closed. We understand (and as is evidenced by this thread) that this may upset some users, but our hope is this will create a stronger forum community in the long run. to those of you who are upset, please remember to express yourselves in ways that are respectful and in keeping with the terms of use of these boards. Anyone uttering threats or using excessively harsh and abusive language will receive moderation action.

Off-Topic discussions in other areas will be locked, and posters who are repeat violators or who are found to be purposefully derailing other areas will have their posting moderated. We will continue to allow master threads like the Twitter and Drinkquisition threads, that are slightly off-topic at times. That being said, people actively working to drive such threads further off-topic may start to receive moderation. Likewise, threads comparing BioWare titles to their contemporaries are also perfectly fine (though as always we do ask that people try to find an appropriate existing thread before starting a new one).

We are continuing to look at other changes to the forums (such as changes to groups) and ways we can improve the community as a whole, but nothing has been set as of yet. We want to see how these initial changes go first, and will decide what to do next from there.

I believe the same amount of respect that is shown towards Bioware is the same kind of respect that was shown towards the bonds and communities by Bioware with this change

I got my first warning point since Feb of 2014. Because of the song I linked earlier having "uncensored profanity". Even though there's several huge threads with thousands of songs of the same nature and not a warning has ever been sent for them. How am I supposed to know thats not allowed if the precedent hasn't been set beforehand with countless examples?

And I can't even contest the report because the Biomod accounts won't receive personal messages.

I love you too, Bioware.

Most of the people who primarily posted in the off-topic section don't actually need to be here. These are the BioWare forums, not the gamer nexus for people who occasionally play (or played some time in the past) a BioWare game or two.Given how gross the off-topic section frequently was, I'm glad they've decided to close it. I hope everybody who enjoyed posting there finds a new community better suited to the sorts of things they want to discuss.

It's affecting A LOT of users. The Off-Topic forum was strong and active, and anyone who wanted to participate in off-topic discussions could go there. Seriously, we can't all just talk about the Bioware games 24/7 and expect us to stay enthusiastic about it. BSN is about building a community and relationships, and if we're restricted to just talking about Dragon Age and Mass Effect, then there isn't really much to talk about nor getting to know each other very much at all. It needs to come back. You can say that there are other forums or places to talk about off-topic stuff, but if we went there then who's coming back here?

Especially not considering how disastrous marketing has been.

Oh, hahaha. I just noticed this now but also, thanks for getting rid of the modding and projects section in the process. Great idea! 'Cause there was no one who was looking for mods specifically and it's not like an entire community was built up around it just by fan work alone. It's always great to feel appreciated.

Seriously though, how does one go about contesting a warning point? Because I can't have open dialogue with a mod account that doesn't accept PMs and I know you're not supposed to do it on the forums.

I'm actually trying to STICK to the rules here.

People stayed in Bioware's off topic because they share tastes with the bioware community. Battlefield forum off topic and say Myanimelist's off topic are very very different places.

Also the Off topic was only gross because mods didn't moderate properly dumping garbage in there and leaving open threads that have been reported and downright refusing to ban obvious trolls.

Lol! I know right! I responded in a necroed thread and didn't even say anything worth getting a warning and a mod gave me a point for responding in a necroed thread. I did not deserve that second warning point.

You don't. You obviously did something bad or, more likely, were about to do something bad sometime in the future and were awarded that warning point in advance to prevent you from committing such an offence. You should be grateful for it, even cherish it.

Just kidding.

This is all rather strange.

There has been very little mod activity on these boards. The structural changes look like a response in the vein of "too little, too late" in light of that.

It's called an overreaction.

Well there is still some off topic sections on the Bioware forum.

At least , the french version still has "Espace Détente" .

It's kinda funny.

With all respect

I think it is a rather miscalculated move on your part. Do understand that people are aware of the intentions of prioritizing discussions on BioWare games first, and foremost, but also realize that such discussions can only expand so far, before people change the subject to talk about something else -- until they have actual news to discuss in regards to the overall discussion.

There's a limit to how much one can talk about wanting to romance Mr NPC#521 or how this and that character should show up or Mass Effect 3 endings or what have you. You need not look further than at the forums of your colleagues and/or competirors at Obsidian, or even CDProjekt, to see that off-topic discussion is a key part of a strong community.

I strongly suggest you reconsider your decision on this matter -- if the condition on reversing this action is a stronger emphasize on topic/post moderation then so be it. Better that than having it removed entirely without much of a warning.

Thanks in advance.

It's in Fan Creations, but it's not specific enough for mod seekers to be like "Oh! That's where you can find mods!"
