If you really want a better forum and a stronger community, then you need to actually moderate these forums properly and perhaps have active community managers in here.

What you did today doesn't seem to be very constructive, it's like you only want a filtered response to the few topics you allow and everything else simply has to go.

That's the thing... moderation alone won't make this place better. There needs to be an active presence LEADING conversation, rather than just acting as an escalated hall monitor.

And yes, that's exactly what they want. They REALLY want this to be a dead site overall, actually, so it's even easier to ignore and they can just stick to Reddit, Tumblr or Twitter. But they need to have "online forum" ticked off their checklist of things a developer must have. So they shut down everything but what the narrow band of topics they feel can self-regulate and have the few fans left who hang around coordinate bringing information to their own forum that is widely desseminated through social media accounts that don't require anything more in-depth than 255 letters.



That's the strategy. It's a good one, if you don't give any sort of rip about people who don't worship the games you make or the ground you walk upon.

Maybe they got fed up with everyone saying how good other games were in comparison to their own?
Either way what a daft decision. Clearly made by a manager somewhere within a meeting on 'on-brand engagement'.
Having suffered through a few of them during my professional career I'm surprised it took so long.

Even if that were the case, that's far, FAR more prevalent in the game-specific forums than it was in OT.

Off-Topic is where fans get to know other fans. It helps make the community a lot better. It should stay.

For now, Off-Topic will remain closed. We understand (and as is evidenced by this thread) that this may upset some users, but our hope is this will create a stronger forum community in the long run.

By collectively kicking your users in the balls? As if this decision wasn't bad enough, you didn't even give us the common courtesy of a deadline for the OT forum so we could have said our goodbyes, traded personal info, saved posts/links/images/videos and ect. Instead, you locked the OT forum and said said deal with it.

 

All for a stronger community? Yeah right. Authoritarian regimes come up with better excuses for justifying preposterous actions.

Oh, Liam... man, I don't know how to break this to you, but... it's not coming back. This is different than when Merizan was at the helm. Though she was totally absent on here, she also was a people pleaser who really wanted to create a good community.

Now? They don't. They want easy, auto-pilot community management. They want to kill the BSN, but they'll settle for the next-best-thing... making the BSN a place where next to no one posts. That's their end goal here with this. It will be a strong, unified community of tumbleweeds.



It's hard to fight when that's their end goal. Which it clearly is here.

Was the Dragon Age Origins New Player Guide and Quest Help shut down as well? I don't see it in  the DAO forum or anywhere else, and it wasn't mentioned in the changes.

 

I thought it was merged somewhere in the DA:O section, yet i don't see it anywhere, they've could archive it at least.

 

And they left the feedback & suggestions in the DA2 section and didn't merge it in the DA franchise section after removing it from DA:I section, didn't OP say that each franchise will have one feedback & suggestions, it's so confusing .

Reddit is basically almost like a giant forum on steroids, more or less. Of all the social media poisons, I find myself enjoying it more than others.

We are continuing to look at other changes to the forums (such as changes to groups) and ways we can improve the community as a whole, but nothing has been set as of yet. We want to see how these initial changes go first, and will decide what to do next from there.

 

You heard it here first guys. All the people trying to make new groups can expect groups to completely be removed soon. All in the name of "improving the community".

 

Don't worry though, you'll get more crocodile tear soaked posts which marginalize you as a small part of the forum, barely worth paying attention to, while the mod team does whatever the hell it damn well pleases.
