So, are official responses just gonna dance around the off-topic issue? Are responses going to be about everything BUT this?

Yes. Have you seen their twitter, or facebook, or anything really? They only respond to praise and if you're very lucky, a politely-phrased neutral question (but not often). They just pretend no criticism exists... because that's great customer service and everything. Criticism is good for everyone if done constructively, which it generally is.

Now I'm really hot under the collar.  What is the deal with the restrictions on posting in the DA forums?  I own all 3 games, the first 2 ME games, and several games prior going back a good decade, at least.  I have been an active member of these boards since I got DA3.  The original restrictions were already incomprehensible, but now they got even worse.  The feedback & suggestions board was moved under "DA Franchise", and now, I can't post there either.  I have many posts there, some quite recent, and now I can't continue ongoing conversations.

PLEASE ALLOW ME TO POST!  There is no reason for this exclusion.  I am your longterm customer.

Wow, that really sucks :( I wish you luck.

Guys, rolling "Quest help and walkthroughs" into "Story, campaign, and characters" may not have been your best move. People who need help with a quest will not want to (and should not have to) dig through 14 pages of random character threads to get to the one they need.

Not only that, but often people looking for help don't want spoilers, which they'll find in most thread titles of that section. They shouldn't have moved it, but if they had to, it should have been moved into the ScuttlebuttGeneral Discussion (No Spoilers) or Combat & Strategy.

Edit: Lawrence already said that, but it bears repeating.

I think it is safe to say that Bioware went full on and beyond the realm of FUBAR with this.

Gee, they could have at least put up a poll. But NOPE! SURPRISE! "And just like that, the magic is gone."

Ha, nope. They removed the poll feature last time they streamlined eviscerated BSN

I'm sorry you got to the RWBY thread so late. I was ready for you to be here for Volume 3.

Maybe in the backup forum?

Maybe in the backup forum?

Hush!

First rule: we don't talk

Second rule: lolwatPARTY!!!

What are people complaining about? Each franchise has its own off topic and the threads are still there. So much melodrama over nothing. I think each franchise having an OT forum along with the actual OT forum is still a bit much.

Where did you get that from?

There is no more offtopic section in the English speaking board.

Yes there is. Go to the Dragon Age Franchise and click on Off Topic.

Edit: oh there isn't. Just feedback and suggestions which I confused with Off-topic as a lot of activity there wasn't actually meant to be helpful.

Now I am confused - I still see "The Lobby - off topic". Does that no longer work ?

Edit again: can't create a topic...why? Was one off topic forum hurting anyone? That's a bit ridiculous. Keep it open!

Finally, we have removed the Off-Topic boards. We want to keep the conversations on our boards focused on BioWare and our games. Since other communities do exist for such off-topic discussions, we feel it's important to foster conversations within our community that can't be found outside these boards.

we have removed the Off-Topic boards

Okay, nice, at least it's, like, officially documented now:

Spoiler

I mean, okay, I haven't been around much lately, but the Off-topic section was the only reason I even returned to this place at all. I really like the community we have here, and the chill atmosphere and diverse topics in the Lobby made me keep this forum bookmarked. With that gone I'm gone. Because, honestly, I have basically nothing to contribute to the desired conversations about Bioware games at the moment.

The last one I played was ME3, and basically all I had to say about it I had said a while after the release of the Citadel DLC (although I did come back to it a few times). Haven't played DA:I and probably won't do it for at least 1-2 years. Nothing much to talk about concerning ME:A as of yet, and there's also almost no interest on my part to begin with.

What I would have wished for here would've been some serious, honest talk, and as per usual I find myself... no, I can't even say I'm disappointed. It's just kind of what I expect by now, although the sheer magnitude of this new tomfoolery actually still manages to astound me.

Anyways, if they'd just come out saying they don't want this form of an online community under their roof I would have still thought it a bad idea and disagreed with it, but I could have at least somewhat respected the decision. But killing the nicest, most active part of a forum and explaining it with wanting "to provide a better experience on our forums"... yeah, sorry, **** that BS(without N)!

Bioware won me as a fan after DA:O brought me back to PC gaming. Then they kind of lost me again after the disappointments that DA2, ME3 and their respective surrounding circumstances were for me personally. Yet I was still connected to the company via this fourm, where coming from the Off-topic section I occasionally peeked into the news and discussions about the new games to see if there was something that interested me.

But with the elimination of the Off-topic board that connection is now lost, probably for good. If that's what they want, cool, more power to them. Buh-bye and thanks for the good times! But part of me still hopes they'll come to their senses.

So, @Bioware...

I hit Refresh over and over on the BSN tonight
And though it all looks the same, the boards just aren't right

Was it something we said or something we did
Did our posts cause too many fights?
Though I tried to avoid the ban
Though I tried, but I guess that's why there's

I look at the announcement stickies on every forum board
I Read Conal say "The Off Topic forums are no more."

But I wonder does he know?
Of the Community that exists?
And I know I'd be posting there right now
If it weren't locked down somehow, but yes

No more posts on this forum.
No likes anymore for thread on Star Wars
No bumps to be found for Anime/manga anymore
No more posts on this forum

Though it's just been a few hours
There's so many posts of angst
No one can post there now
But the threads, those threads remain

Without any time to say goodbye
Just a notice posted there today
Instead of a head's up
They just threw it all away

And now you say to find a forum that's new
And that we never meant that much to you
To see those threads locked for all time
Makes me need to say goodbye... so there's

Off topic is just a place for people to have fun with the BSN community. Why get rid of it? A lot of people will stop coming when they are bored of talking about games that come out years apart. Don't you want the extra site activity?

For now, Off-Topic will remain closed. We understand (and as is evidenced by this thread) that this may upset some users, but our hope is this will create a stronger forum community in the long run.

Would you care to elaborate on this?  I am relatively new to the forums, and although I do spend most of my time in an on-topic area (ME3MP Section), the off-topic served as a convenient and fun "recess area."  Without it, I simply leave the forum when I have nothing else to say.  Is this the goal / stronger community that you have envisioned?  If by "stronger" you mean "more rebellious", then yes, you will have a stronger forum community... you will likely also find that members will spend less time on the forum, and that mods will spend more time locking threads.

I can't imagine that the cost of maintaining the off-topic section was anything substantial, and even if it was, wouldn't you rather see members spending more time on your forums, even if some of that time is off-topic?

To answer a few questions:

We will continue to monitor how things go with these new changes and make future decisions based on the results.

For now, Off-Topic will remain closed. We understand (and as is evidenced by this thread) that this may upset some users, but our hope is this will create a stronger forum community in the long run. to those of you who are upset, please remember to express yourselves in ways that are respectful and in keeping with the terms of use of these boards. Anyone uttering threats or using excessively harsh and abusive language will receive moderation action.

Off-Topic discussions in other areas will be locked, and posters who are repeat violators or who are found to be purposefully derailing other areas will have their posting moderated. We will continue to allow master threads like the Twitter and Drinkquisition threads, that are slightly off-topic at times. That being said, people actively working to drive such threads further off-topic may start to receive moderation. Likewise, threads comparing BioWare titles to their contemporaries are also perfectly fine (though as always we do ask that people try to find an appropriate existing thread before starting a new one).

We are continuing to look at other changes to the forums (such as changes to groups) and ways we can improve the community as a whole, but nothing has been set as of yet. We want to see how these initial changes go first, and will decide what to do next from there.

It has been so long since I participated in a forum discussion.  I believe I stopped shortly after the migration from the old BSN site.

You want to know how to improve the community as a whole?  Stop making sweeping changes without input from the people who use the forums.  You want to see how the initial changes go first?  Good plan, I mean if you are trying to get fewer people to post on the forums then you should make sweeping changes and see if more people leave.

I would REALLY appreciate it if you give us a little warning before removing private messaging or the project pages or the toolset posts.  I have some things there that I would like to save before you remove ALL indications that this is a 'social' network.

You REALLY want to know how to improve the community?  Get rid of the DRM and don't make players install Origin to play your games.   Are you REALLY REALLY sure that you want some of us to focus on your games?  You might not like what some of us have to say.

We'll find a new home.

We shouldn't have to. The point was to talk about RWBY with other folks in the Bioware fanbase. Fans of the same things, friends. Can't do it on RT.com because you're not introducing people to something they might not know of, everyone already knows of it there. Can't do it on twitter, too few characters. Facebook? Filled with spammers and arguments, not worth the time. Tumblr? Just likes and reblogs, hardly a place for a worthy back and forth.

Here was the perfect place. Off topic was the hub for Bioware fans to come together and keep ourselves happy and entertained between Bioware game releases. Now we're kicked out and told to do it elsewhere. *shakes head*

Evicted and not even given a two week heads up.

Lol! I know right! I responded in a necroed thread and didn't even say anything worth getting a warning and a mod gave me a point for responding in a necroed thread. I did not deserve that second warning point.

That's funny (and ridiculous), because one of the PMs I sent a mod was about necroing threads. I asked what we're supposed to do if we're not supposed to make redundant threads, but not necro them either. Bit of a catch-22 there. Naturally, they ignore good questions. How are we supposed to follow the rules if you won't even clarify them?

At this point, most observers have concluded that they want the opposite. The reasons why are ultimately up to speculation, but there isn't really any remaining doubt that driving the fanbase off of the site is the intended goal of EA and the staff running it.

True sons and daughters of BSN, will you join me to fight against the Thalmor (EA) and their Imperial puppets?

I trapped Ulfric in a Soul gem and carry him around in my inventory after killing him. After awhile I created a Nordic Sword and enchanted it with Ulfric's gem making it do fire and ice damage. I call  it the rage of the North.

Edit: I like to Head Canon my Thalmor denied Ulfric Sovenguard by placing him in the Soul Carin trapped forever within the blade Ulfric's rage powering the blade
