This is why I prefer Obsidian's forums, where there's little leniency on discussions relating to off-topic matters, ranging from anything trivial to political matters. Looks I might have to finally migrate to it.

Hey, everyone!
In order to provide a better experience on our forums, we have decided to reduce the number of public boards. These changes will take place over the course of today (Monday, August 24th).
In part this is intended to bring some of the smaller but similar boards together. For instance, the customization boards such as Character Creator and Classes & Builds have been combined into Combat & Strategy, and the Multiplayer subboards have been merged into a single Multiplayer board. For most of these merges, we found that our users tend to post in the larger, more prominent forums already, and our changes reflect that.
You'll also notice that instead of individual News & Announcement and Feedback & Suggestion boards for each game, we now have these boards for each game franchise. This way, the latest news and feedback for each series will be easier to find.
We've renamed Scuttlebutt to General Discussion, and we'll no longer have separate sections for spoilers vs. non-spoilers. Instead, we will expect posters to be more diligent about hiding spoilers and labeling threads that contain spoilers.
Finally, we have removed the Off-Topic boards. We want to keep the conversations on our boards focused on BioWare and our games. Since other communities do exist for such off-topic discussions, we feel it's important to foster conversations within our community that can't be found outside these boards.
Thanks,
The BioWare Team
I really don't understand this decisions. I actually do not believe it all due respect. Most of these changes look like they were created to reduce traffic because frankly the forums are not generating any income.
-The features on the old site taken out
-The limitations on the current featrures.
From my perspective it looks like you want to reduce the bandwith used and since off topic generates a considerable amount of data on this website you want to can it. This is what it looks like to me.
I am disappointed.

BioWare is just mad because the off topic boards were more fun than any game they've made since 2010.
This stuff is why Offtopic users are the best.

Merging certain sub-forums? Ok. that I can understand. But removing the off-topic section? Cue "I don´t want to live on this planet anymore!"

I am fine with you removing off topic forums if you make a game a year. Actually keeping people around for the 2 years between games I would think would be a good idea, even if they are talking about nothing to do with the game or the company. not sure how many people you will lose but you will 100% for sure have some people leave the forums and find something new.

off-topic was the reason I keep visiting the forums, Andromeda and many of the other boards that deal with your games are full of toxic people. Off-topic forums is the only sane place on these forums to get away from the insanity. This is a bad move on Bioware's choice.

Bioware logic, it's a beauty.

I'm sad. The 'what are you listening?' thread was far and away my favourite thread. While the metal got a little repetitive, there were a bevy of posters who listed interesting music on a daily basis.
Selfishly, I rather enjoyed spamming the forum with cat pictures and other funnies. It's a part of my daily routine that I will miss.
Without my work day cheer moments I may go postal here at work!

Guess we'll have to make that persona group on steam more active now, Chewin a member of it?

I had a great time conversing with Star Wars, Metal Gear and Fallout fans in addition of being a fan of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series. The fact that it's removed is disheartening......

It's most certainly not presumptious to say that discussion is going to die out save for the hard core DA and ME fans. I'm sure that's exactly what BW wants given they've been dumping random stuff into OT for a while now but hey, alienating the long term folks have been happening for years now so I'm not exactly surprised.
Looks like I'll be trading contact details and then scooting once the change hits.

This does go hilariously blatantly against any notion that this is a community.
And it's not as if Off-Topic was some horrible cesspool that was impossible to police, I'd bet anything that there is at least 200% more shitposting on both the DA:I subforums and ME:A forums.

Hm, it might look like I now need to spam the Mass Effect forums with all my negativity towards that franchise, telling everyone that wants to play ME-Andromeda how bad that game will be, how bad Bioware handled the ME-Story, how they ruined that franchise with their nonsensical storytelling etc...fun times ahead, Andromeda-fans will hate me in no time ...

Reducing bandwidth? By throwing out a couple of people who shared text? Keep in mind, this is a subsidiary to a company that has servers for the likes of Origin. I would think they can afford a bit of ASCII being transmitted through their precious cables.
