Well, now that off-topic is gone, I wonder what the estimates are for how long it is until the whole forum's scrapped in favor of Twittter, Tumblr, etc.

The sad thing is, this now sounds like a possibility. Like its a matter of time before they say, "Well its been fun, bye everyone! See you everywhere else but here!"

The fact they don't have a proper Community Manager since Jessica Merizan left is pretty damning.

i knew this was coming. it was gonna happen eventally. it was question of when.
reason why i created a fan forum earlier before this.

Desirably BioWare would have moderated their site effectively and banned longtime problem posters like, well, you instead of scorched earth nuking of entire forums.

Huh.  Didn't know Jessica left either (haven't really kept up with Bioware news for a while.).  That's a shame because of how enthusiastic she always was about Bioware and events, but I hope she's off doing better things now.

I woke up this morning, and saw the notice that  the forums had changed. I read the notice. The OT Forum was closed. Then I noticed that my corner of the Mass Effect Franchise section called Afterlife was gone and merged with Fan Creations.

Then I read the news and saw that the stock markets had crashed all around the globe...

Did the change in the BioWare forums cause this? I want answers. My retirement fund depends upon this.

The state of Washington is burning... literally.

People probably wanted some place to talk about this stuff, but when they signed in they found that the off-topic section of the forum was gone. The thing that corporations forget is that when they have a forum like this, regardless of all the bickering that happens on them, this is a community. It's an internet community and certain types of relationships are formed between people. When they make changes like this, it disrupts these relationships. Bioware Corp. management disrupted the relationships of everyone who uses this forum on a regular basis today, and it's no laughing matter.

Still the off-topic section was probably one of the sections that least needed moderation. It shows I've been a member of the Bioware sites since 2010, but I've really been around since Neverwinter Nights first came out. That's a very long time.

I hope that the people running the forums reconsider what they've done and restore Off-Topic and Afterlife sections.

That's all I have to say.

Agreed.

I had been finding the Off-topic area to me friendlier and more laid-back than most of the other sections of the forums.

I liked being able to talk with Bioware fans about games that aren't Bioware.

Off-topic has always been more relaxed, I've not received a single death threat in there!  Not one

Well... I just made this profile to say goodbye when I heard about this... as most of you guys knows, I had already left bsn. . Twice lol but I wanted to say goodbye like the rest of you.

I've got some of you on Skype like Seboist and Heretic and Tony etc, I'm really happy about that, we'll keep in touch and if anyone else wants to they can can find me under theonewomanarmy :)

I can't say I'm sad to see this section get closed... seriously.. The last year or so it's been going down the drain imo but ofc lots of memories here.

Exactly. Bioware fans talking about things not related to Bioware. Its how we pass the time together until there's something to talk about thats Bioware related. It keeps us here and keeps us interested. If Bioware can't handle an off topic section, thats on them, not us. Forum members shouldn't lose their place to connect with one another as Bioware fans of other things just because Bioware struggles to handle it. Thats weak. Bioware should strengthen up and learn to handle all of it so that this place is a good place for all of us, themselves included.

I guess you haven't been reading this thread then. Long story short, it does no harm while making the community stronger, and keeps people here between games and DLC. And I say this as someone who hasn't even visited the off-topic. I'm also concerned about the spoiler forums. I don't know why they think that's a good idea either.

I read enough. I hear the arguments and I'm not saying they're not vaild but I don't see the big deal. That's just my opinion. On the other hand I'm more concerned that people will be spoiling everywhere without having the separate forums like before. I stuck around long after the game but I usually call it quits 6 months or so after release unless a DLC comes out, so I'm not here as often without new content. :/

I've asked people who it was that took her place after she left several times and never got a response.

If your top poster doesn't know, that says it all.

Like it matters, its not like there's ever any significant engagement on the part of the BioWare devs or employees with these forums.  They're either terrified of "toxicity" caused by their own lack of moderation and poor community managing, unwilling to interact with their fans on the forums for whatever reason, or simply not competent enough to do so.

She and I have interacted since then;she's doing great. She still does her cosplays, she's been on multiple online shows, she's worked for several different places and I believe is now the Fandom Experience Manager for Legendary Pictures. She's doing absolutely fine, thank God. I'll never take her kindness towards me here for granted.

She was never negative towards me, was never snarky, was never overbearing. She was always super cool and helpful, we used to talk about the forum improvements and changes back when the BSN switched back to just being a forum, she helped me out a ton. I feel like I owe her.

Thats a proper community manager. Thats what Bioware needs. And has needed since she bowed out.

I believe someone mentioned that it was David Hulegaard. He took the position when she left. I don't know if he's still the Community Manager. Someone else may have taken the position, or the position may have been dissolved or changed.

Part of why I love the Off Topic section is exactly that, its nicer and kinder. In ME or DA sections, there's constant infighting between people who disagree on this or that;but in Off Topic you can calm things down and discuss things rationally. Even if your friends are a little crazy. :P

it would be pretty much this. i just hope Off Topic will be unlocked. because it's good place for us all to speak about anything we need to discuss about.

posters like LPPrince deserves his 1000th topic post.

Changed. Hulegaard is a top dude and I support him 100% but he doesn't have that role anymore. And even when he was a community manager, he managed a different part of the community, not the forum if I recall correctly.

Cass has two accounts she's using here and they count as separate votes to bring back the forums, FYI. I'll take every shortcut possible.
