Does Bioware really not think that people who share an interest in their games might enjoy sharing opinions and perspectives about other games or arts & entertainment in general? One thing I liked about Off-Topic was that when talking about non-Bioware stories, it was easy to use Bioware games as a reference point, e.g. is Geralt more or less malleable as a character than Shepard or the Inquisitor, or how much of the new X-Files miniseries should be devoted to "sidequests" in the form of monster-of-the-week episodes.

And please, do listen for the feedback, don't just give us a middle finger and say "Off-Topic is closed for the sake of being a more united/strong community"

"For the sake of being a more united/strong community you are only allowed to talk about this select group of topics. All other discourse is banned."

I never said there was anything wrong with having an offtopic section. As a matter of fact, I've repeated many times that I think this was a silly move when there are far more important problems with the forums that I think should have been tackled first.

My question is why so many of the people here seem to hate everything about Bioware and haven't liked a game since BG and still come here every day. I don't personally see the draw.

You sure you're not talking about the mass effect forum section? Many folks in the OT were neutral or at least semi-positive compared to the hemlock-levels-of-toxic-distrust that section has for bioware.

They did take out the "social" out of the actual forum.  I guess it's that time, lel.

Me being the ever optimist, I waited hoping this would be some sort of "Monday Temper Tantrum" gone awry on Biowares part, and I would wake up login and find off topic flowing with its normal banter. It is really sad and a slap in the face that a forum that may have brought people here about a dragon age game, or mass effect game in the first place actually found other interests in common with other people by going to the off topic forums.  But the worst part of it is the cowardly way it was handled.

But you can't take BSN off-topic away, it's more alive than battlelog.

I wouldn't say it was cowardly.

It takes big brass balls to alienate a not entirely insignificant portion of their community. There must have been a very compelling reason to do that, but they didn't tell us. Because what was told, you know that stuff about stronger community, etc., is so hilariously out-of-touch with reality that it can't be taken seriously.

In a weird turn of events though, it did create a stronger community. It's just that community is the one they drove off by locking down all of Offtopic and making those regulars create a new one. And interestingly, there's a couple of old names joining too, the kind of users who have been largely absent for quite some time from the official forum.

So yeah, stronger community is happening, just not here and not a BioWare community.

I say its cowardly for the fact they do it then sit back and watch this forum. How exactly was Off topic hurting them? because THEY were to lazy to moderate so they just decide to shut it down and then hide. If They had brass balls they would actually be coming on here and giving us the real reason for it instead of just little blurb about about a stronger community and we will monitor this.

I see the company's bipolar disorder since the EA buyout remains unchecked and has now made it's now affecting the forum. Nice.

I'm not even sure if they care enough to follow this.

I want to know what Bioware has learned from this immediate response. I want them to tell me. And no, not some line like, "Some people may be disappointed". I don't want my intelligence insulted. I want bullet points of each thing they've learned over the last 24 hours.

Be open with us as we are with you instead of hiding under the safety of shadow.

They don't even bother to market their own games properly so I doubt talking to us is a priority for them.

Yeah but thats their job. They don't count. I want Bioware employees, whoever in that company is reading this thread, to come here and give us a rundown on what they've learned from this experience.

If they missed something, we'll be sure to tell them. If they missed everything, then we're screwed because nothing we say will ever matter.

I'm going to actively hate this place if they wait for "the long run" to see if this will work instead of realizing that the off topic section is integral to this place as it is with any and all forums like a competent forum caretaker would. I've already lost some people here, I do not want to lose more.

Talking to us hasn't been a priority for them since like, 2012/2013ish.

Naaah... don't think that we'll get another answer. Riding out shitstorms has become BioWares specialty in this place.

Yeah, I know. Happened with Mass Effect Deception, happened to a degree with Mass Effect 3, happened with the Bioware Bazaar, happened with Dragon Age 2, happened with the FemShep contest for ME3, the list goes on and on.

Tired of them riding things out and not taking the initiative to fix things in a positive way. And before someone over there reads this and goes, "What do you think removing Off Topic is for?", removing an incredibly social and integral part of a forum experience is NOT a positive change. It is detrimental and negative.

A positive change is increasing developer presence on the forums. A positive change is increasing the size of the community management team. A positive change is instituting a clear and obvious community manager that is always positive, happy, and ready to do their part for the community. A positive change is having named moderators actually interact in discussions here across the forums and partake in good times with everyone else. A positive change is adding features that have been heavily requested for years. A positive change is ending the amount of sarcasm and snark that developers have been thrusting on fans for years here. A positive change is to stop lying to us in order to sell us a product and just be honest with us. A positive change is to set an example to be followed by forum members, not getting riled up and giving in to pressure.

Positive change is possible. But stop confusing positive change with "KILL IT WITH FIRE!" because its getting so damned old already. Tired of that noise.
