That sounds like a communication issue between Bioware and the moderators, which is unfortunate. In another forum I moderated there had to be a good reason and consensus among the moderators for stickying a thread.

Nah, I see why they removed his privileges. I'd never outright sticky my own thread;I'd ask others to sticky it for me. Its why in the past community moderators here said that if they saw a rule break in a thread they were actively participating in they'd ask another moderator to come in and deal with it as it'd otherwise seem biased.

Speaking of Jessica, since she left around this time last year, how many people even know who the new community manager is?

Since she left I have never been aware of who the community manager is. I couldn't tell you. With her it was plainly obvious, after she parted ways with Bioware it was simply a mystery and never when I asked who it was did I receive an answer. Or if I was given one, I don't remember.

I think it's hilarious that Bioware killed the old Bioboards to create their own social network.

Then killed that to basically recreate the Bioboards.

They never did put the old BioBoard archives back online. That said they would, but they never did.

It was David Hulegaard who took over from her. But he's apparently no longer the CM. I know Pierse shared some responsibility/work with him so he might just be the next one. Though by now that title rings a bit hollow ...

I'm of the opinion that even questionable things should be reported, and its up to the moderator to decide how to deal with it, whether its a verbal warning, a warning point, a suspension, or a permanent ban.

Sure but then I'd expect them to consider things in context. To have the ability to decide if they can ignore it, warn someone or go for more serious measures. I'd especially like to see them warn people who report every little thing.

I'm not a nice person, I freely admit to that. I'm brutally honest and I don't deal with stupidity well. But I would never intentionally insult someone or try to hurt them. As it stands now you can't call posters out on their failing logic, their stubborness or anything else... even if they derail a constructive thread with it. Because if you do, you risk being reported.

As far as I know, it's David Hulegaard.

As you can see, he doesn't even mention the forum in his schedule.

Ease of moderation is more important than ease of user interface.

That's often how customer support works. But if BioWare perceives these boards as serving the same purpose as customer support, then they amd we have wildly different ideas of why BSN even exists.

And I find it funny that Conal actually called it BSN, when BSN has been gone for over a year.

To be fair, we all still call it the BSN. BSN was a catchy name and we were on it for what, half a decade almost?

If so, this was never made obvious to me. And I'm here literally every day. Far as I know he's the messenger.

And if I miss it, how can you expect anyone else to catch on? There were people here yesterday that still thought Jessica Merizan was with Bioware and in charge when she's been gone FOREVER at this point.

Wait was she that chick in the early VA skits? The one with vivs and Alistairs VA?
If so I didn't know she was gone >.>'''

We should never have to wonder who it "might" be. We should just know.

Just don't give the volunteer mods the same level of control. Let them, as I said before, do thread cleanup, general maintenance, and bring bigger issues to the attention of mods that have power. Let them move threads, sticky, add spoiler tags, edit, etc., and that's it.

Anyway I doubt anyone even wants the job.

Yup.

But whoever is running this show doesn't care for that.

At the time he wrote those blog posts, he was. He talks about social media channels, but not even once mentions the forum.

And don't let them get away with manipulating or abusing their powers even for a joke. That stuff gets carried away far too easily.

Thats because he was a community manager for the community off of the forum. The forum had its own, far as I could tell/remember.

By the way for those wondering what Jessica Merizan is doing these days, she'll be on the GeekandSundry Twitch channel at 4PM Pacific/5PM Mountain/6PM Central/7PM Eastern tonight.

No worries. Years ago one of our community moderators quit her position. She was asked by the head moderator to suggest anyone to replace her. She thought I'd be a good pick.

She was told upon suggesting me that I was on a list of people who would never be made mods(probably based on suspensions or whatever else). So there went that.

You're too boastful about and invested in your own contributions. This in itself would make you a poor mod, in spite of your other strengths.

Community manager for part of the community? That's strange. That means there would have to be another community manager above him, who had the big picture of all communities combined.

Well, no one is responsible for the forum. Explains the decline of it.

Not back then. Back then I was like anyone else, only I went above and beyond to help others around the forum when they wanted questions answered or needed trivia on the games. I was like a walking wiki.

And as far as being invested in my own contributions, I'd HOPE community moderators were. To me thats a plus.

I would take the job. I have nothing better to do. I used to be a mod in a different forum a long time ago.

But yeah..I totally agree.  And those people should not be labeled as mods. Anyone could be a mod...no one would know, because if you know a mod is lurking..you are not going to be posting naughty things.

Ask them if the offer still stands. You should accept it. Even you would be better than the current mods.

Thats not true. Even with mods around back in the day people who intended to break rules just went ahead and broke them. Besides, visible mods keeping those that don't intend to break rules careful is a positive.

I made some lifelong friends on that board, and I often wish I could go back and revisit our first conversations.

But nope!
