I'd throw Allan in there as well. He tried for two years to make the forums a better place, but he just got burnt out doing it all on his own and got overwhelmed by with trying to moderate and participate at the same time.
The suggestion thrown out earlier about having mods never actually moderate threads they were participating in sounded like one that might have kept him from growing to dislike being in this place. Who knows.
I liked Allan, but he's a dev/tester, what they need is an actualy community team for the forums again. I know it isn't the biggest forum and that's why they probably dont see the need to maintain it, but it would be better to get 2 people to be the CMs of these boards than nuking the community aspect of them.

I thought Allan Schumacher was regularly participating on these boards more recently than Priestly; not really sure when/if he dropped off (especially since I haven't been following the Dragon Age boards very much).
EDIT: Totally ninja'd by Fast Jimmy.
The last time I saw him was right around the time the Gamergate thread was going, so about a year now. I think that was a rough time for them moreso outside the forum. You had Gaider chased off twitter, right? And in the forum was kinda weird, we had people getting accounts just for that thread then vanishing it seemed like. I wonder if BSN reputation had much to do with it, I think I still saw articles about Bioware's "special" fans even just a couple months ago. People outside the forum equate us all with toxic trolls.

Agreed, Allen was pretty good.

If BioWare want people to talk about their games they should make games worth talking about.
*mic drop*
They do, but you can only talk about them so long before things get old. Then you need DLCs. Or in the absence of DLCs, SOMETHING.
Off Topic is where I reside here when the other sections don't have anything for me. Its what kept me here and up to date on new developments.

And that is still the stupidest thing I ever heard. Are we all cute and cuddly? Of course not. But compared to the rest of the internet, BSN is mature, serious and civil. We are damn good fans and getting such a reputation is an insult to all of us. This isn't 4chan.

Allan was great, but it wasn't his job to take care of this place. He ran into a lot of that, hell a lot of which thru me sending reports back when you had to PM mods about reports because the reporting system was terribad.

Absolutely. It's a full time job, not something someone at Bioware should be doing in their spare time. And yes, ideally there would be dual CMs (one for each franchise and OT being split between the two).
But that's not whats happening. Bioware doesn't want to make this a better place. They want to make it a CHEAPER place. Which means reducing forum traffic and decreasing positions, not creating more positions and engaging the community more.

It IS kind of funny. The BSN is WAY nicer than other locations, yet this is the one that gets a bad rep. loool
Bioware should go take a look at Bungie's forums and see if thats what they want this place to become.

The mods have been quite active in this thread. In the past 10 hours they deleted a page's worth of posts, if not more. I wonder what was so terrible about the posts on pages 1-36 that they had to be removed... I didn't see anything offensive.

I would. I've sent my own ideas to them over the years quite a few times. I wish others did the same on their own accord.
I did. Sent in a rather large treatise (6 pages) carefully outlining my thoughts on some of the problems with the forum and some ideas on how I thought it could be improved and methods for bringing about said improvement.
It made the rounds inside, from what I heard from a few devs.
But that was back in February. Unsure of anything that's happened since then, as far as if it helped give any ideas or start any brainstorms.

I don't intend to ever throw in the towel. I'm not tapping out ever.
Remember that time they "temporarily" closed the ME3 character forums to work out a new format and solution to issues...
At least they aren't stringing us along this time?

Mostly stuff that didn't directly pertain to the subject matter.

There were a few ragers in here, profanity and "F you, Bioware" kind of comments or pictures.
Still, rather tame compared to the ME3 days. And pretty mild considering they are shattering friendships, comradrie and overall consumer goodwill.

Nope. I don't spend any time in that particular section. Especially now when I want to leave ME3 in the past.

I hope so. Though this happening sort of answers that.

Everything is toxic except for the person's inner twitter/tumblr/subreddit group. That's at least the sentiment I've seen a lot of people start pushing, which is kinda sad. Yes you wont have fluffy bunny conversation everywhere on the web, but when you start losing the ability to judge a website fairly and quartine yourself while saying everything is as bad as 2008 era /b/, you lose a major benefit of the interent - all the various viewpoints millions of people have.

If only they could have put in such effort at the Lobby instead of straight up deleting it.

Happens everywhere, sadly. A few examples of extreme daftness get publicised beyond the forums (Tali's sweat, anybody?) and all of a sudden the forum is populated entirely by the chronically weird. Honestly, I don't think the ME3 ending furore did the forum's reputation any good, either, to the wider gaming internet anyway. I still read threads on other forums where people cite the BSN as this hive of, um, scum and villainy when in reality it hasn't been any more toxic than most other places for a while. What's that saying about reputations, that they're easy to ruin but very hard to repair? Yeah.

I often wondered... am I less of a fan if I don't have a Facebook account ("Like us on FB and get a bonus item ingame!")? Am I less of a fan if I don't follow them on Twitter? Am I less of a fan if I can't attend conventions in cosplay because they happen on a different continent?
Am I less of a fan if I question some decisions in the games I played for thousands of hours? It should be obvious that I love the games; bugs, plotholes and all. Am I not allowed to ask questions about them? Don't you want my feedback? Why are there Feedback forums then?
Sure, I could worship the ground BioWare employees walk upon, I could sing praises of their incredible games... but would that be better?
So... am I not good enough to be considered a fan anymore? Are we forumites the unloved stepchild of the BioWare fandom?

Good. Usually I hear about it if someone does something like that which is why I didn't have a clue. Hopefully it mattered in some way.
Maybe I'm just misreading you, but that seems to be a little arrogant to say. The forums are large and we are diverse and spread out. I don't think anyone here can claim to know everything that's going on or that people necessarily make a post every time they do something.
For example, you and I have barely crossed paths because I've mostly been in the ME3MP and DAIMP forums, although I have posted occasionally in the DA and ME SP forums. Never went much into the Off-Topic Lobby. I've lurked basically all over, though. And I'm actually fairly well-known to some of the more vocal devs here and on Twitter from my own interactions with them, both here and off-site. But that's also generally not something I go around beating my chest about as those are real, genuine friendships, not notches on my belt. I bring it up now simply to show that maybe - just maybe - there are posters here that you don't necessarily know who also feel strongly about this forum and BioWare.
When I sent in my suggestions, it was rather personal and didn't feel like the sort of thing I'd go making a thread or post about - "look at me, I submitted feedback!" I mean, really. That would be silly. I only admitted to it recently since obviously the topic of forum changes has become suddenly relevant and a hot topic right now.
