Isn't that internally inconsistent with their actions though? I mean, they just got rid of a single place where people could cool down and dump all of their off-topic ideas. If they want to just ignore this place to make the rest of the forum "cleaner" or whatever, why remove off-topic in the first place? If this thread isn't harming them, neither was off-topic.

Thats what I'm trying to figure out. I can't wrap my head around Bioware's thinking because its against the thinking of every forum ever.

Because we didn't have to pay to post there, all the other sections have you having to have bought their games to post in them in common. The just made this thread so that they wouldn't have to deal with the angry users because they knew they would come here, basically they guided everyone that was angry to one place, so that they could just steer clear of us. Had they not done this then people would have went to their twitters, tumblrs, reddits, facebooks, etc and started confronting them.

I don't think so. So many people just bailed that easily could've gone to the other sections of the forum and thrown a fuss. If they didn't intend to come back it would've been the biggest series of perma bans in the history of this place.

Except this is getting no publicity so Bioware won't prioritize it.

This thread won't be locked for now because it is a way for the rest of you to communicate with us on how you feel about this decision. People who are violating the TOS in this thread, however, may have their posts moderated.

Over 40 pages of people saying that we think it is a stupid decision.  I'm pretty sure say that doesn't violate the TOS.  You aren't going to reopen the off topic, right?  No one from Bioware has posted in the last 24 hours, right?

I only come BSN for private messages and to support modders who have questions about modding.  I RARELY post since the previous ill considered changes to THIS forum design.

But I'm really am interested to know why EA/Bioware is trying to drive away people who have purchased one or more Bioware game.

I don't have an exact number, but I can confirm a few bans and even more are discussing coming back here to go out with a permaban.

That's their own fault. They could have made it like the rest of the forum, needing to have a Bioware game on your roster. Don't punish us for your errors, Bioware.

It would certainly have created a lot of martyrs, yes.

I considered getting myself one but all the options seemed a bit rude to other forum members, not just BioWare.

Only Bioware can prevent that by bringing back the Lobby and even then they have lost some users.

Please don't. Just in case things swing back around, I'd rather everyone come back here and resume happiness, not perma bans and negativity. Thats exactly the kind of thing that justifies what they did.

Thats just silly. Why would anyone act that way on purpose? Bunch of children if they do and we would be grateful to rid ourselves of them.

Yup, unecessary martyrdom.

They got to work for that though. Simply reopening Offtopic, pretending it never happened and isn't going to persuade people they won#t pull the same stunt again later.

BioWare has to reform its community engagement from ground up, everything else is just masking a structure that isn't working.

Unless that is happening, I don't see any value in staying. A community that is barely tolerated isn't fun. And that's what I'm here for, fun with other people. It's why I play videogames, to have fun. Maybe someone up there at BioWare HQ is losing that perspective.

But if people have the intention of doing that, it justifies what Bioware's done. Its completely counterintuitive. Its why I haven't left, its why I'm trying to figure this out, its why I'm trying to wrap my head around this and find ways to convince them to bring it back, hoping to hell they ARE reading this thread, even if most of you think they won't.

The middle finger yearns to be unleashed.

To be fair if they had done this to any other section of the forums the exact scenario we are now in would have occurred.

It was pretty much inevitable and unavoidable barring actually leaving it there since it was doing no harm.

Don't burn any bridges behind you, it serves no purpose and you won't make a statement. On the contrary, it will prove to BioWare that their decision was correct and will make it even harder to get some positive changes around here.

If you want to go out with a bang, then think of something that doesn't violate the forum rules. Don't throw away your accounts, you'll never know when you might need them again. Getting perma-banned helps no one.

Aye. I want all those threads opened up again so we can resume talking about things we enjoy with fellow Bioware fans. You know, in peace, not bothering anyone.

Yeah, that's not a good idea. If the reason Bioware shut it down is because they viewed OT in a negative light, that will only confirm it.

I wrote a long reply and then my phone ate it. To summarize: they won. As far as I'm concerned it's not worth the time and energy to try and fight this. Their ignorance has proven to be immense in the past, and the fact that they even did this in the first place tells me there's no point in talking to them.

It's sad, but I guess this thread here will be the last one I'll be in on this forum for a long time, unless they re-open OT while this thread is still running.

I'm simply not interested in talking about what they want me to, and they heavily implied they want me to leave through their actions.

I aim to keep this going and make this happen, even if the majority sees it as fruitless.

I highly doubt they will reconsider it at all.

Again - this isn't to make the forums a better place. It's to make the forums low maintenance. It's too much work to have a forum where people can talk about any topic they want. Bioware doesn't care if every person on these forums gets up and leaves... that's the bottom line. They want it to exist so they can say they have a forum, but they don't actually want anyone posting here. Because people who post require effort.

They want to put the absolute, bare-bones, bottom-of-the-barrel amount of effort into this place. In terms of manhours, actual dollars, server space, creative drive... you name it, they don't want to spend it. It's not worthwhile to them. YOU aren't worthwhile to them. Unless you have a Reddit account, at least. Then they think you have an opinion worth expressing.

I have to say: The devs responding and posting news everywhere but here doesn't do anything to convince me you're wrong. Wow, this is more depressing than I thought. Not to mention insulting, as it always was.
