No problem, if it rids the forums of those that ruin things for everyone else.

Yeah...you don't accomplish that by removing off topic and merging numerous forum sections into one. This accomplishes absolutely nothing constructive for the forums at all, but I will admit that there are parts of the forum that should be merged together.

If you want to get rid of the actual trouble makers, you do that by firm effective moderation. That's not what we're getting here, and it's something you have said they aren't even doing.

H8chan is currently down and God help me if I go to burchchan. Beyond that, anonymous imageboard culture is so different from typical forum culture that most people here wouldn't be able to adapt. The biggest difference is that the Lobbyists here all want a sense of a close knit community and fraternity. While imageboards can provide that in spontaneous ways, especially when people do community streams, the very idea of anonymous posting isn't conductive to a close knit community, because you literally don't know who you're talking to from thread to thread.

Hotwheels is on it. 8chan should be back up soon... I hope.

Ever since I discovered 8chan my eyes have been opened.

Yes, it's a miserable pit of scum and s**posting, but it's also the palace of freedom. Freedom is a double-edged sword, which I see more and more people fail to understand. Accepting the other edge is necessary. But they want their cake and eat it too, which doesn't work.

Embrace the truth of human nature.

But true, it's different from forums. No avatars. No record or notierty. Good thing you can go to both forums AND imageboards, right?

At least you could before BioWare decided that sinking slowly in the sea of s*** isn't good enough and decided to jump in head-first with mouth open.

What are the chances I'm gonna meet you lovable, adorable fa***** on another forum and we'll have crazy discussions and slap fights as here? Slim to none.

It is a dark day indeed.

Well, I'm fine with it but again, not everyone is.

Dark day indeed, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

The reason for that that we've been given is that they can reach more people through those social media sites than they can thru here.

Which I believe is a very poor premise.

Yes, Twitter (as an example) has a base of millions of users. Yet, you have to know there is an account and be a follower of Bioware on Twitter. But very little of use actually comes out on the DA/ME or Bioware Twitter accounts - most of the bits of information come out from the individual accounts of Bioware employees. A person would need to know this, then need to know who these people even are that would be worth following.

For instance, for some of the PC issues with DA:I, Mike Laidlaw posted some general bug fixes/workarounds on his Twitter account and was widely praised for it. Yet no one in their right mind who didn't already follow Mike Laidlaw would have even the SLIGHTEST inkling that this is something they should do to seek help or assistance. Only the most dedicated, fanboy/girl-ish of the series would even know who Mike Laidlaw was, let alone would want to follow his Twitter for the sole reason of random technical support.

Instead, any NORMAL human being would, if they had issues, simply Google the big name on the back of the box... "hmmm, apparently it's made by a company named 'Bioware.' <clickity, click click tap tap>, okay they have a website... not much informatom there... oh, great, they have a forum! I'll go there and check out their News and Information section to see if there's any updates! Wow, over 100 pages just for PC Concerns, there must be a lot of interaction! <clicks the 'see Bioware Only posts'>... wait, what? Only ten responses from the company, all of which just say 'wait until it's fixed?'"

THAT is the natural progression of someone who isn't a Bioware fanboy. Not to cyber stalk a company's employees to find all of their various social media accounts in the hopes that they say something in their personal account that they, for reasons unfathomable, DIDN'T put on the actual company site.

To suggest Bioware is reaching more of the masses through social media is just plain lunacy. They are simply reaching more of the people who worship the ground they walk on.

So has Allan or Gaider come out of the woodwork to celebrate the destruction of the toxic community? The new Bioware forums where the community will be unified wondering what quarian sweat tastes like and celebrating their turian foot fetish. No pesky talk about anything else.

I wouldn't think either Gaider or Allan would care enough either way anymore. Especially about Off Topic. But I do agree that the most ugly vitriol and the most sick deviant stuff posted on this forum is nearly ALWAYS in the On Topic areas. If anyone like Elahan harbors notions that people from Off Topic were polluting their areas with negativity or Bioware bashing, they are quite sorely mistaken.

I fail to see how closing a sub-section consisting of cliquish "romance" obsessed weirdos discussing Quarian sweat or if tali's into anal sex(no joke) is a bad thing. The tiny amount of "romance" content in these games doesn't justify a whole section dedicated to it.

That section was populated by a clique of degenerate SJW deviants, pedophiles, other kin and all manner of weirdos that crawled out of tumblr.

Locking it was the only worthwhile decision Bioware ever made regarding the management of the forums.

Another day, another complete lack of communication.

Wonder if anyone from Bioware's even reading any of this. Probably not.

Still, see my sig. The bit not about cheese or funerals.

So y'all who are should stop trying to dissuade us from keeping up hope.

I can afford a couple of minutes a few times a day to keep up with this. Off topic was worth at least that much.

Honestly? A part of me now doesn't even want Off Topic back. Bioware clearly has a agenda to intentionally cripple their forums. They have become a liability in their eyes, not an asset.

If they bring it back, it would feel like an abusive spouse who beats their partner and then "allows" them to stay afterwards, like we should be thankful for their continued indulgence of our unwanted behavior.

Bioware doesn't want us here. I don't know why we should convince them to re-open a place for us when they have been as unwelcoming as humanly possible.

It's probably not very good to compare the meaningless arguments of an internet forum with someone who has an abusive spouse. Not the same. Not even close.

Fair enough. Still, it is a relationship where, despite being treated as people who aren't worth common decency or respect, forum goers keep coming back, asking for chances for Bioware to be better than they are. When they have a history of just not caring.

True, though I get the metaphor and he isn't wrong.

I don't know how many people would want to come back, or even can. Vitriol begets vitriol, and the understandable reaction of some means that they won't even be able to come back following bans.

Still, I do truly believe its worth a shot.

And I definitely hold some degree of morbid curiosity about the whole thing that makes me keep up with it. Just how far has a company I once respected fallen? Do they truly believe that consumer relations like this are acceptable? That such attitudes are in any way beneficial in the long term?

We'll see when, if ever, things start to get addressed.

Yeah, And you know what? Screw those people. F*** 'em! THAT's what community management is for. Create and cultivate a friendly community ... and if there's anyone around who takes the p*** out of people, be that the company or other users, then you kick them in their virtual groin and close the door.

What you DON'T do is let those people stay and fester, and then down the road decide to generalize the whole community as toxic and arbitrarily nuke it, irregardless of the fact whether the place you just shut down actually is hostile or not.

You punish individuals. Not communities for what individual nutjobs did. I have not seen any of those idiots in Offtopic. Those unrepentant company bashers almost explusively spread their hate on the respective game sections.

The mods are at work, though I do note that there are few of them. And things around the boards have not been as great as it was in the past, but that occurred with an increased populace.

As mentioned earlier, I expected an atmo-strike long ago; still saddens me that it has happened, but understand it.

Well... I took a page from the Suggested Bioware Fan Playbook and did some cyber stalking of their employees in an attempt to get answers that weren't being addressed on the forums. You know, how Bioware wishes we would do everything, apparently. And what I found was kind of surprising.

Conal - in the off chance you are silently lurking, tallying responses on an abacus or whatever constitutes Bioware "listening to feedback," I pose this edition of cyber stalking at you.

Conal Pierse: Media Production Coordinator at Bioware, located in Edmonton, CA. Outside of actually knowing your official title, no real curveballs there. Formerly a self-declared Independent Newspapers Professional. Huh, so an indie journalist? Okay, kind of interesting.

But then... I found your posts on Rabble.Ca, webcasts for a group called "MakerCulture." And I was floored. MakerCulture wasn't about DA theology, it was about grassroots campaigns, about building communities, about giving power and voice to people who would otherwise be ignored, marginalized or drowned out. About placing prime importance on the power connecting people can give and how they can change things in huge ways that no one expected.

Conal, would your college journalism major self from five years ago look at this as a good thing? About shutting down a group of people, of friends, just because they wouldn't toe the line of acceptable conversation? About stuffing people into a vacuum of non-responsiveness, giving them no way to be heard, acknowledged or spoken to? I didn't know you then (or really know you now), but I would think 2010 Conal might be a little down about the whole thing.

I'm not trying to shoot the messenger here, Conal. But the thing is... there doesn't appear to be anyone else in Bioware's organization who this message would come from outside of you. Your boss (of which I'm sure you have one, since everyone has a boss) is either someone not part of the Community Management team or someone who thinks a Community can be managed from the shadows in total secrecy. Either way, that leaves this entire mess at your feet, since you are the sole member of the Community Management group anyone in the Community even knows exists.

So you have the option to at least respond. To stop the corporate stonewall silence. Not for me, or Prince, or any of the others here. But for you. Because I think you once thought that having people work together to try to make things better was something that wasn't just important... but vital.

No; the facts are posters were filling the boards with negativity from many of the forums including OT, and Bio-bashing was only a part of it. And while I am saddened by the reaction from Bioware, I understand it.

Jes, I'm gone for like a week, and a whole pillar on the community gets knocked out. A sad day for everyone. Enjoy the refugee's from the off topic polluting your "preferred threads" and not keeping on topic at all. Seems you've only warranted it I guess.

Naw mate. Be better than this and join the Honk Honk forum. There's no point in giving BioWare post-facto legitimization to point at and say "see, we were right after all".

We're better than this. And if BioWare thinks we ought to leave to someplace else then THAT and ONLY THAT is the message people should get. OT aren't hooligans and we're not going to leave a burning wreckage for people to point at us when the arsonist who set fire to their community is BioWare.

It's their loss, plain as that.

Off Topic deserves a hell of a lot more than a couple of minutes a few times a day. The amount of work put on there by everyone took time. We should take that time to bring it back.
