For those not discussing games, that may be what is best for them. But for folks like myself where OT is secondary (not the primary reason I post here, but not inferior discussions), I plan on staying on here.

The Lobby kept a lot of us regulars around during the lull between games, though. It provides the BSN with staying power at a time when Inquisition is getting old and Andromeda is still too far out to get anything beyond wild speculation or calls for whatever random feature in the game.

In either case regardless of it "fixing" anything or not if BioWare wants us to accept the changes then they need to explain in greater detail what their plan is and how these changes are supposed to accomplish that.

If not, then I think you'll have LP here for all eternity fighting the good fight =P

I take it this doxxing happened in the past, yes? Not recently? Not as a result of this?

Yea, he was talking about something that happened a while ago.

Not acceptable of course, but not something that retroactively 'validates' this whole thing.

Not that I think any individual's response would validate what they did to the entire OT forum.

This is to the benefit of absolutely no one.

I mean, it benefits Bioware if it gives them less work to do and thats all they care about. You can't cut twitter, or Facebook, or reddit, or tumblr, but you can damn sure chop this forum to pieces.

Was the doxxing to Hepler? Because I remember that whole mess. That was ugly.

The way I understood it was because of this.

Based on what I recall, Bioware stated they wish to focus on discussion of their games. This 'fix' may work for them, whether or not one agrees with it.

Discussion implies back and forth. Two or more individuals conversing.

How many threads do you see addressed to the Bioware fanbase, versus those addressed directly to Bioware? People rarely post a thread to ask how people in the community feel or think. People post to make suggestions, give feedback, provide criticism or shower praise to BIOWARE. Bioware isn't conversing about their games. They are funneling all the crazy into one spot so it can mostly slowly sputter out between releases.

So if Bioware isn't trying to make its focus about talking to its fans about their games, they are just trying to limit what people talk about in general. And the only reason for that is budgetary concerns, plain and simple. This doesn't improve the community, it improves the bottom line. And what's the next step to improving the bottom line? Why, moving to a 100% (free) social media presence, with maybe a blog sprinkled in for fun.

Yesterday, the Social Network features. Today, Off Topic. Tomorrow, the forums in general.

Oh and as it so happens, Conal Pierse isn't just the messenger;apparently he is the Community Manager in charge of this place.

Do we know this now or are you just guessing?

Well you're lurking there, right? :P You probably know as much as we do.

He didn't specify exactly, but I took his comments in reference to past experience. It could actually go either way.

I've said it before, I firmly believe that behaviour like this will prove far more damaging, and in turn costly in the long term.

Shave the meagre costs of moderating and web hosting and lose long time fans, damage your site infrastructure and dissolve a "potential" source of constructive feedback into nothing but a celebratory circle jerk.

Cost cutting can be of no benefit at all when forsaking the OT, as it destroys every purpose the site was created for.

May as well just wipe your hands of the whole forum by that point. It serves no purpose beyond the illusion of fan engagement.

Our guest informed us that a Bioware employee had been doxxed. I would like to remind everyone that doxxing and attacking people is bad, don't do it. The Lobby isn't worth destroying someone's life (especially one that isn't even related the decision to remove it at that). Please either move on or focus your anger/disappointment/sadness in more productive ways that won't hurt anyone.

Doxxing and attacking people is not the answer.

Eh, what's this? A responsible moderator on the BSN?

*is proud* You've come a long way in such a short time.

Aye.

At this point its not even fun. Bioware fans be damned. Talk about us or go away.

I hope the doxxer reads this message. You're a *****. Get over yourself, loser. No thinks it's cool, and you're not cool either. So quit being a ****** and grow some balls. If you're not happy then vote with your wallet. I still haven't bought DA: Inq, and I probably won't either after this.

Bear in mind that happened quite some time ago. It wasn't in response to the OT forums closure.

Isn't that the question of the day...

Because this is the BSN. Bioware employees would never post here. Yuck. It's toxic.

I've done a lot of brainstorming today and wondered if you guys could tell me exactly what you would do to change things around here? How would you do it? What rules would you like to see enforced?

Maybe it's a troll account (I have my doubts, given the bravado shown with the "do you want me to private message you from my BSN account?" comment). Maybe it's not tied to any sort of Bioware computer or account he could be officially linked to. Maybe posting on the BSN has some sort of agreement Bryan can't violate, but can when he posts elsewhere.

Or... maybe he knows the only people who know about that site are Bioware forum regulars or people in this thread. And he knows no one else from Bioware is reading this thread to know to check the site out and see his responses. Who knows? Heck, maybe they issued him his two weeks notice and he just doesn't give a rip.

Yep, thankfully I misunderstood and it wasn't a recent happening that could be added to all of the doxxings in the past.

Because there's a place to post and that's where most of the community is at, I guess.
