Do you actually know for certain Beerfish was actually a moderator for certain? (did a search of the moderator forum and found 0 instances of Beerfish)
My brain might be fried at the moment from being on this subject the last 72 hours but I'm pretty sure Beer was a com mod back in the day. If I'm wrong, I'm not the only one making that mistake.
The devs aren't coming back. The moderators aren't gonna suddenly change. The people in charge seem like their idea is to make the board smaller and move on with their lives without spending too much time, money, or resources.
This is where we are at. Those are facts. What we do now is up to us. Eventually even this thread will die and people will move on. We stay or we go. This is real life.
I hoped it would be worth fighting for but with Bryan's comments here and the other thread, guys, the damage is done. It is what it is.

I don't perceive anything Bryan says as doomsday, "Okay everyone lets pack our bags up and go home, its over".
The fact that he's even here right now is awesome.
He wants us to hand craft a list of moderators to be submitted for consideration.
^This, and just fyi I'm a she not to be confused with my other half, N7_SP3TR3
We can't do that.
Why not? We just need to compile a list of willing volunteers, and a list of qualifications. At least it's something constructive to do until CP returns from PAX.

I don't want to speak for anyone of course but I don't think a few comments in a thread that specifically aimed conversation at him means he's going to suddenly fall back in love with the BSN.

I nominate Elite Pinecone for the Dragon age threads. Also R2 Muse for the character threads, though I doubt she would want it.

Its not our position, nor our place, nor our responsibility to do such a thing. There's also opinions and biases that would be at work.
Hell, several people in this thread have claimed they'd support me in such a role, or one of even higher merit;but how do you know the rest of the forum doesn't feel otherwise? If someone feels otherwise, how do you know its not a sound, valid opinion against me or one based on a senseless bias?
It has to be up to those in charge and those alone because they are the only ones with the proper scales to weight us on our merits.
For example- Years ago in the Mass Effect section we had a VERY popular lady on the forums constantly being recommended as a potential moderator by posters. She was never made one. Why? Because it'd be based on popularity rather than potential.
Potential can be determined by the community management team. But anything we do here will likely be a popularity contest, and even with my post count and presence here, I don't think it'd be right for us as just every day forum posters to make these decisions or offer up choices.
I mean, perhaps I'm off base. Maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow. But I don't know how well it'd work if it was based on community recommendations.

Figuratively, not literally. Because awkward.
Perhaps not(him being here more often), but its a start. I'll take what I can get.
I am a high school teacher, and if there's one thing I hold as truth above anything else in my career, it is this; the best way to get difficult kids to respond to you and behave is to show them you're human. To listen to them and to treat them with respect. To be kind and use humour. A good moderation system works exactly the same way. A poor moderation system which hands down discipline from on high, behind the mask of anonymity, is completely ineffective and does more harm than good to a community.
I disagree. A good moderation team that strikes down like Gestapo in a sadistic WW2 thriller is much better. You look at the person from your friend list being hauled off screaming, and wonders 'will I ever see him again? Perma-banned?'. That is the good stuff!
It's about time we get back to the good old DA2 days and get a sense of who our real enemies are. The only problem then, was that we never really saw the victims being hauled off and rarely heard any screaming. They just disappeared. That detail needs improvements.
And do spare the developers/moderators a thought. Think of how much they dislike us. We, sniveling, entitled, toxic, hypercritical little malcontents. Here they are, working hard, long hours, to develop something like this:
And we have the gall to demand something more like "The Spiritual Successor to Baldur's Gate"?
And yet you ask of them to be polite, respectful.. "be kind" ? And spend forever on the forums doing it, probably not even paid for their time. Whatever, wasted time, not contributing anything to completion of above masterpiece. There are millions and millions of others, wanting a game like that, who are not on the forums.
No wonder they have stopped participating on the forums. It must have been awful. Can you imagine having to work and live like that?
Nah, let em slip into the long, black leather coat and get some payback.
We do have community mods (mind for the most part they havent been that active).
I don't know if you're aware (honestly, I don't), but it's not just that they're inactive that's the problem. They outright ignore or refuse to answer questions, even ones regarding clarifications on forum rules, making it very hard to know what to do if you're not sure. For the same reason, it's impossible to contest unfair warning points or bans - there is no accountability.
They almost never actually moderate; they destroy. Seldom do I see them enter a thread and remind everyone to stay on topic, calm down, or give warnings. You know, moderation. Nope, they just lock them with no explanation or a stock line and call it a day. Then of course there are the obvious troll threads that remain intact for days.
This is all made exponentially worse because of their anonymity.

I have actually seen my fair share of those. Probably not enough though.

My apologies, mi'lady (fedora tip).
In all seriousness, please don't even remotely consider me for this list if it is put together and my name (by some mistake) pops up. I love you guys, but I'm not boyfriend moderator material.

I do not deal with moderation, I stated my reason why on the other forum. But basically don't want to be labeled for censorship, don't do it enough to be consistent, and want to not be seen as "superior"

Far as superior goes, there are always going to be people that see you and other Bioware developers as superior for the simple fact of being developers as opposed to just every day forum goers. But I get what you mean.
