I'm just missing off topic levels of interaction.
That too.
I'm just missing off topic levels of interaction.
RIP off topic forum.. I just found out today
. I'll miss you all. I pretty much only come around here for the off topic sub forum nowadays.
Here, we can only talk about one thing, non-stop, without end, with no one besides Bryan to even acknowledge it is bing read by anyone who can do anything. There, all the topics can be discussed, including this one (which brought Bryan into the discourse originally anyways, although not on the greatest premises). For the sake of not being a guest there(since that can lead to manipulation) I've made an account on the other site. Though I hope I don't have to use it to talk to folks when here would be you know, perfect.
Its all split up and weird. There are folks here, folks there, I miss when we were all in one place.
September 2nd:
"Hey, everyone!
After a lot of internal deliberation and discussion, we've decided to keep the Off-Topic section closed. We understand this may upset some members of the community, and for that, we apologise. However, we felt that it was in the best interests of the community as a whole to keep discussion focused on BioWare products. It is our hope that the community respect our wishes and thinks carefully before posting Off-Topic discussion in other areas.
That being said, we don't wish to restrict your conversations. For example, threads comparing BioWare games to their contemporaries are fine, provided they are posted in the right place and follow all other rules of the forums.
It is our earnest desire to improve the community and provide a better experience for all BioWare fans! We will continue to work hard on bringing new changes to the forum structure, as well as groups. We hope to keep the community updated when changes and improvements are made.
As for this thread, we sincerely thank everyone for their feedback and hope that we can continue to engage in strident discussion about the state of the community and BioWare games in future. We will certainly take everything you've said on board. However, seeing as this thread has been left open for a while, I'm going to lock it as there is nothing more that needs to be said. If you want, you can always contact us on twitter and reddit for further clarification or discussion.
Thanks,
The BioWare Team"
Prove me wrong, BioWare.

I mean... it's a little ironic. You're asking people to talk about this one thing all the time and not go and read/enjoy in topics outside of this. Which is exactly what Bioware is doing.
No no, I mean I wish we were all in one place talking like we used to. Everybody was here and there wasn't any problem like we're having now. Don't misunderstand me, thats already happened before with others.
I agree it's not that difficult to drop us a line reminding us they're keeping an eye on our feedback.
I don't expect that till post PAX or near its conclusion.

I agree, it just doesn't come across well. How would you feel if I created a mess and left to a party while everyone else dealt with the fallout?

I don't want to see it that way, but maybe thats just because I'm tired of being unable to go to Off Topic and join in on all those discussions.
Like, I'm tired of feeling bad, so I don't want to consider something else that'd make me feel worse.

I agree, it isn't like there was some deadline or milestone that Conal had to meet that just happened to coincide with PAX. This could have been done any day, at any time. Why do it on the day before you hop on a plane BESIDES to use it as an excuse to duck out?

No worries, Prince. I just think you may have a lot of passion right now and no good vein to direct it in. Besides lycan sexual organs.
lol, that was fast
First off Monica21, I did read your post, I am not sure I have anything to add. You made your point across very well. I am fine with criticism, and the type of criticism you posted is one that I welcome. The criticism I do not welcome is things like "You guys are a bunch of liars who don't care about games and only money".
Now even when there is legitimate crticism, I personally do not necessarily have the power to shape things like people expect me to. Also given it is generally my free time that I spend on here, I am not really able to persue things with people during work hours. Because that would be taking away time, from my job description. Which makes all sorts of fun, so while I may be helping people out, I am sacrificing my own performance and career doing so..
I appreciate you reading it and really just wanted someone at Bioware to read it. Whatever the concerns are on the community management side are, well, we have our own concerns too. I think it's fair to try to address both before going to the rather extreme (in my opinion) step of shutting down an entire forum with some very vague reasoning.
And really, if you guys were just in it for the money, probably both you and your parents are a tad disappointed.
There's so much potential for snark to direct at Bioware hidden within all these posts. Its getting hard to resist.
So many missed opportunities... but I'm trying to keep it civil now until we can reasonably expect a response.
Conal will definitely have enough on his plate for now, though we pretty much all know it shouldn't have been done right before going. I absolutely share in the apprehension.
The when of it can't be changed. But what was can. So we'll just have to hold out.
While it could've been a lack of coordination I would have expected someone to then revert the changes until after PAX.
lol, that was fast
Uhhhh... what's my name?

Its rough, looking back at this thread, the immediate reaction, the settling in of everything.
So I guess this is it, uh? BioWare Asocial Network...

Alright I have spoken about your initial point long ago (on the old BSN) about how me being in a conversation can change the very nature of the conversation. Yes reddit is not the best for long discussions, but that is not where my personal strength lies. My personal strength lies in coming in stating why I believe something is the way it is, and being done with that. When conversations drag on, people lose my original thoughts and ended up largely going in circles (people probably know a recent example of this happening on these forums). I am also not a fan of long lingering discussions, I like pointed questions and answers. What gets somewhat frustrating is when people think that they have a magic solution to the problem, based on less knowledge than I have, and then I have to go into a very indepth answer of why that solution wont work when internally that kind of thing has already been discussed. I can see plenty going wrong with a dislike button that hides posts on this thread, we already have cliques, now give them some sort of power... I don't have time to investigate voting patterns of people to determine if a report is factual or not.
If I had completely given up, then I sure fail at following my own instructions. But you have to look at examples from all over people are more and more retreating from the public. Your example of Chris Roberts, he is part of a small company that has relied on public perception and money from the community (and continuous money at that currently 87million). My counter argument to that is Phil Fish and Peter Molyneaux.
Edit: Looking at Star Citizen's stretch goals, one of the ones for 2million was "regular community updates" ie someone paid for them to be there. Then for 3million was "increased community updates"
2nd Edit: Regarding your reddit post the statement of "I am curious how many of these mysterious downvotes are fans who don't want to express their reasons, or Bioware members who still refuse to speak to us." comes off as quite standoffish and already puts me at a large disadvantage and sets the tone of how communication will go. You are treating individuals as an entity, but expecting people to act as individuals.
You are correct, that could have been phrased much better. But my inexperience with Reddit as a whole was a small contribution to that train of thought. Regardless I do apologize for giving a stand-offish impression. That is not at all my intention with any of this. In fact I was more worried my initial Wall O Text would come off entirely wrong and be interpreted as a challenge or hostile. Guess I tripped at the finish line. Can be fixed with a simple delete. I must confess I have no idea who Phil Fish is, as for Peter well....I think the Rock Paper Shotgun interview with him said enough. I can also understand those reasons for not caring much for long winded discussions, you being a QA should have made that obvious. However the mentioning of long discussions was more so the community at large, with team members who would be interested in such things, if any. In regards to Chris's stretch goals, true enough. I joined the hype train much later down the list of goals and never saw those. I unfortunately am only a single pair of eyes, eyes that lack the experience of knowing what to look for. I freely admit this. So I can't say that I had noticed this trend across the industry. I just hope the industry realizes how all that looks to us, like no one wants us around, like we only matter come Release or DLC time. It makes us feel like they just don't care, like it's about nothing but the numbers.
However thank you for taking the time to respond, and to talk to us in general. It was just good to see someone make the effort, even if the initial reasons for your appearance was unfortunate.
What does that stand for? XD
The boards used to be called BioWare Social Network, the BSNs. Now it's the BAN, BioWare Asocial Network. A- means that it doesn't encourages social activities -- unless it's BioWare related.
Anyone remember the DA:I Follower Fridays? Where on one friday of each month a new follower would be revealed. We got one Follower Friday but then some of us waited and waited and waited for another Follower Friday but that day never came. There was no announcement as to why there wasn't one or when another one would occur. Follower Friday only lasted one friday! One! But the person who was in charge of it never communicated as to what had happened even though people were waiting for an explanation.
Well, my point is, even though it's not the same thing, I don't think anyone is going to come back here and explain what happened or what will happen. The Lobby is gone...gone... for good.
I'll eat a slug if it does come back.
A bullet or an actual slug? I don't want you to shoot yourself though. I'm just wondering if you're down for actually eating a bullet with a fork and knife, hot sauce off to the side, and a bag of hot cheetos to wash it all down.
