Anti-Bioware posting happens entirely in Bioware-related sections. The off topic section is the one place where you WON'T see it.

I don't go into off-topic much, if ever, but what a weird change to make. Plenty of people in the regular topics being hateful and anti-Bioware.

A better choice would have been to fire your current moderators and replace that system with an entirely new, non-anonymous one. This doesn't exactly foster the community spirit we were hoping to bring back to the forums.

Finally, we have removed the Off-Topic boards. We want to keep the conversations on our boards focused on BioWare and our games. Since other communities do exist for such off-topic discussions, we feel it's important to foster conversations within our community that can't be found outside these boards.

That's a pity because it's probably the main reason I keep checking the forums these days what translates into me posting in the DA:I threads from time to time. A bit of an odd decision as well considering most forums have an Off-Topic section where people from all over the world get a chance to share their interests on a wide variety of subjects other than, say, our passion for BioWare's RPG games. Indeed, I would never have learned of the amazing Legend of the Galactic Heroes were it not for the Off-Topic section together with many other wonderful series like ATLA and The Legend of Korra. OT is always a great place to hang out while waiting for a new BioWare game and discuss the merits and faults of other titles.

*sighs* I just don't what else to say to convince you that this is a terrible decision but I'd like to remind you that the OT section does "foster conversations within our community that can't be found outside these boards." Why do you think we're there after all?

Although I hardly go to the Off-topic forums, I believe it should have stayed. Have you looked at the Ubisoft forums? Dead as dead can be. Also, spammed to death by spam bots about love gurus and whatnot. Now, people are going to create "off-topic discussion" threads instead which will get immediately locked the second it is posted. Also the mods have been short-tempered lately, and handing out tickets like candy for the smallest reasons. The reason why forums die is because aside from the games, there isn't really anything to talk about and there is only so much you can talk about a game before all threads start to look the same.

It only ever happened when threads got dumped in offtopic instead of locked..................

And that never made sense to me.

I'm still trying to figure that out.

On top of it all, and this one's a bit more personal, but I didn't put all that work and time into the RWBY thread for it to be lost because "not enough people are talking about us!"

Its these kinds of decisions that make me buy Elder Scrolls games.

Remake it. I didn't send you the group link for nothing. The RWBY thread is just a bunch of 0s and 1s, it's the people you've brought together that filled the binaries with passion. If you can keep the people, you keep the RWBY thread, postcount be damned!

Oy mate, cool down a couple degrees.

You keep telling people who are rationally and reasonably expressing themselves to "calm down." I hope you're not trying to upset people so that the thread turns into a rage-fest, because that wouldn't be very nice.

Hey, everyone!

In order to provide a better experience on our forums, we have decided to reduce the number of public boards. These changes will take place over the course of today (Monday, August 24th).

In part this is intended to bring some of the smaller but similar boards together. For instance, the customization boards such as Character Creator and Classes & Builds have been combined into Combat & Strategy, and the Multiplayer subboards have been merged into a single Multiplayer board. For most of these merges, we found that our users tend to post in the larger, more prominent forums already, and our changes reflect that.

You'll also notice that instead of individual News & Announcement and Feedback & Suggestion boards for each game, we now have these boards for each game franchise. This way, the latest news and feedback for each series will be easier to find.

We've renamed Scuttlebutt to General Discussion, and we'll no longer have separate sections for spoilers vs. non-spoilers. Instead, we will expect posters to be more diligent about hiding spoilers and labeling threads that contain spoilers.

Finally, we have removed the Off-Topic boards. We want to keep the conversations on our boards focused on BioWare and our games. Since other communities do exist for such off-topic discussions, we feel it's important to foster conversations within our community that can't be found outside these boards.

Thanks,

The BioWare Team

Some well considered and needed changes. Although, since there is no mention of this renewed BioWare focus being set on groups or how polls are going to be handled -among other OffTopic features- it's questionable how well considered certain aspects of this change were before implementation. The abruptness of locking down an active area of the forums raises questions. Closing OffTopic appears to be a change that was tacked onto these other changes without well thought out consideration.

Did current employees of BW/EA suggest and push closing OT?

or could this be teh agenda of a possibly disgruntled ex-employee.

I still can't wrap my around this.

The only thing they accomplished by getting rid of the OT is pissing people off.

And mind you some of these people are the people that bought a lot of their games.

Kudos to your work in innovating the forums, but I can't say I understand or approve this particular decision. This is coming from someone who usually never touches or cares for the "off topic" sections of other forums, or forums regarding general topics period, and yet I'll also regret this loss.

"other communities do exist for such off-topic discussions"? Other online communities are way more prone to unnecessary hostility and general inactivity. BSN is fortunate to possess a comparatively friendly, active, and insightful community. Other online communities are also full of faceless strangers who might have nothing in common with me and share zero context with me. In other words, I don't give a damn about them. Few things will compel me to talk about Star Trek or give romance advice to some rando who could be some racist homophobe, a religious zealot, or think video games are stupid for all I know. On BSN, we all share the common thread of being fans of Bioware's universe, which in itself says a thing or two about everyone here, and after spending enough time here it's easy and welcoming to form other ties of camaraderie and forms of enjoyable discussion.

And from a more practical point of view- you're going to have more off-topic discussions leak into your other threads. It happens often enough. Take away this outlet, and you're just going to have more of it everywhere. Woopee. And when so many ppl have so many ways of enjoying their time on BSN and forming sentiment, everytime they see a Bioware game, they'll think of BSN. That's just better for your own marketing. You have an edge few other franchises do.

Read the whole interaction and don't just pick a single post out of context and then imply I'm stirring up people, thank you very much.

But now that off-topic itself is the trash, where will they dump it?

Clearly we need a new off-topic forum to dump it in.
