To think, they could have just put ads on OT and made money.

Far as "conversations that can't be found outside these boards" that only happens when developers are here talking about their games and talking to us about other such things.

Given developers have chosen other avenues to have these conversations, it so happens that those conversations can be found everywhere BUT here.

- Heh.

Nice point. However, I think you and Bioware could have somewhat different ideas about what those conversations should be.

You're maybe imagining discussions about game mechanics, art, innovation and directions? They are maybe imagining a group of content gamer kids talking enthusiastically to themselves about how fun and awesome multiplayer is, and what they did in it today?

ads on a forum run by a multimillion dollar company... would be one more reason to use adblockers. when they want to make money they should release good games

September 2nd:

"Hey, everyone!

After a lot of internal deliberation and discussion, we've decided to keep the Off-Topic section closed. We understand this may upset some members of the community, and for that, we apologise. However, we felt that it was in the best interests of the community as a whole to keep discussion focused on BioWare products. It is our hope that the community respect our wishes and thinks carefully before posting Off-Topic discussion in other areas.

That being said, we don't wish to restrict your conversations. For example, threads comparing BioWare games to their contemporaries are fine, provided they are posted in the right place and follow all other rules of the forums.

It is our earnest desire to improve the community and provide a better experience for all BioWare fans! We will continue to work hard on bringing new changes to the forum structure, as well as groups. We hope to keep the community updated when changes and improvements are made.

As for this thread, we sincerely thank everyone for their feedback and hope that we can continue to engage in strident discussion about the state of the community and BioWare games in future. We will certainly take everything you've said on board. However, seeing as this thread has been left open for a while, I'm going to lock it as there is nothing more that needs to be said. If you want, you can always contact us on twitter and reddit for further clarification or discussion.

Thanks,

The BioWare Team"

Prove me wrong, BioWare.

They won't prove you wrong. There is NO WAY a reply from them (if they give one at all) will be that polite or apologetic. They didn't even apologize about scrapping oldgen. I wrote a fake response exactly like you just did to show how easy it would have been. If they didn't even do it for that, they won't for this.

What happens to all of the 1s and 0s wasted in the "What Changes would you like to see on the Bioware Forum" thread? Do they fuel some infernal Canadian machine? Do they vanish into cyberspace? Are they laughed at by the moderators? Will we ever know?

I'm still not sure why old-gen couldn't handle The Descent? Is it because of the number of enemies? Didn't seem that many.

Graphical FX perhaps? Mine are set to Low, as the flash and smoke are a bit disorienting for me.

Agreed, I don't really see why either. At first glance, it may appear that way, but then you have to remember that you could have way more enemies appear at once in multiplayer on oldgen (along with 3 other player-controlled characters). Map size shouldn't be an issue either, since the Hinterlands (or any other area) is all one location that requires no loading as well. Even if there were minor problems, couldn't they have scaled it down just a tad for them like the base game? Gah, it's frustrating.

I'm sure those could have been toned down if need be. I'm pretty sure they were for the base game anyway.

Inquisition already has a lot of those and I'm guessing (and this is just a guess) they're more taxing on an open environment like, say, the Fallow Mire.

Recall those plains of fire; could be problematic for low end GPU's.

Possibly, but they could be toned down, no? A change like that is easily worth it if it means 2 entire platforms get to play at all, in my opinion.

It's also possible they didn't do it so much for this DLC as for the next one.

Then they should have simply done it for the last DLC. Especially considering there is no reason Spoils of the Qunari couldn't have been on oldgen.

Yeah, I saw nothing technically mind-blowing with the new DLC. Makes the oldgen ban and on odd choice. Of course, it may have nothing to do with technical capability and more to do with market share (maybe those who stayed on old gen were shown to have lower adopt rates of DA:I than new gen) that didn't warrant the extra development dollars? Can't say for sure.

I ain't even tripping anymore. We shall thrive on VSN. It's more lenient so what purpose do I have in coming back here even if they do open OT?

I think it's simply a matter that Bioware realized it wasn't profitable for them to produce DLCs on 5 platforms.

Maybe the reason given by Bioware that old gen consoles were holding them back will come true with the final DLC but as you said before, this reason certainly doesn't seem to apply to The Descent and especially not to the buggy Spoils of the Qunari.
