This alone makes 95% of the difference. The best moderation I've seen here is locking - with at least days and days of delay - threads that were blatantly used to mindlessly spam. That's the best. The worst consist in things like letting individuals (TROLLS) like Carcassandra Chatter to continue his quest, and especially allocating warning points to people that didn't deserve those. To be more specific the only warning point I have right now was given to me for saying the equivalent of "jews are men, they have rights and cannot be harmed" in a neo-Nazi forum.

What in the actual ****?

At least they let us know in advance.

Oh, wait, they didn't.

No, I won't ever get tired of making that joke.

Bethesda Softworks has a very active Off Topic section on their forums. Hmmm. Must still be important to them. How interesting. Lot's of discussion about the things folks used to like to talk about in the Off-Topic forums that once existed here. Lots of talk about games that aren't actually developed by Bethesda, like The Witcher 3, Dark Souls, and many more. Plenty of open discussion about Introducing Yourself, Posting your Desktop, iPhone vs Android, My Little Pony, Mad Max, and Sci-Fi, just to name a very few.

Maybe, the folks that used to like to hang out here (like I did) might find a more welcoming community over there. Just saying. In fact, the funny thing is, they actually seem to like their community, understanding intuitively the anonymous environment of internet feedback and discussion, with an even better understanding that no matter the unbridled passions of anonymity, the best ideas always percolate to the top. Not much whimpering about "toxicity," and they seem to be adequately moderated.

Hope to see some of you over there. But, of course, to each their own. Just thought I shared an alter-perspective with my final post here. The best way to fight a change you dislike from a given entity, once they've shown themselves rigid and unmovable, is to find an acceptable alternative. If that alternative happens to be embracing the services of a competitor of said entity...well, that's sort of the point, and nothing but a notch in the win column.

Best regards to all.

Oh, and to stay close to some of the friends that some of you might have made here, make sure to stop by Vroom Social Network and register, many of us are up and still chatting there.

Take care.

Bethesda had their own problems with Off Topic quite a few years ago and that all ended up just fine. But yes, overall Bethesda's forum moderation is excellent. They are consistent and refrain from being heavy-handed. They'll also reply to PMs and stuff to clarify rules. All in all, great group of moderators and a few that I'm happy to call friends even if they live on the other side of the world. Bioware could take a page out of Bethesda's book when it comes to forum moderation.

BioWare was inspired to a good deal by Bethesda's Skyrim where it came to DAI.

Who knows, maybe they will also end up being inspired by Bethesda forum expertise in the future.

I've given up. It's obvious that BioWare thinks goodwill is like Santa or the Easter bunny and that it's total and complete utter bullshit. I know I sound like I'm having  raging fit. I'm not I just lost all patience and I feel like the deserve my two cents at the very least.

Now watch as I get a warning point for swearing.

Also FYI fix your goddamn ****** piece of **** filters before giving out warning points. I heard that might help ;)

Edit: Well... ironic... the intended swearing was filtered but the real swearing was not.

No. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Never compromise.

If I've noticed anything since being a member of this forum (around the release of DA:I) is that the authorities don't like off-topic conversation.

Now.. I don't understand what the big deal is. As an active member of the DAI forums I have seen countless character threads been locked, one in particular the Sera thread -- where the people weren't even given a reason or warning as to why. Simply just locked and that was that. The people who actively participated sent PMs, no response. It was only out of luck, that I managed to get in contact with an English Community Moderator, explained the situation, and she reversed the situation provided the Sera thread stayed on topic.

On top of that people have made complaints about said off-topic chatter, to the point of dedicating an entire thread about it to complain.

So let me outline a few things:

1. These forums, once you get to know people with similar interests (hello, BioWare games?) can be quite fun. We are creating friendships and meeting good people while we discuss these games. Not only that, but by going slightly off-topic some of us have managed to get people into other BIOWARE games. I.e, a few people I have met, hadn't played ME before. After a few discussions, they decided to play. This means they gave money away to the company, thus making you a profit.

2. There are only so many times you can discuss a particular thing in a game. What do you think will happen when the last DLC of DA:I is released? There will be nothing to discuss, save for people who come to the games late. The rest of us will be anticipating Mass Effect Andromeda. Now.. as there is little to no information on the game, there are ridiculous, pointless threads being created. If bandwidth is an issue, perhaps looking at deleting the countless garbage on that particular section -- was it really wise to open up a forum so soon, with close to zilch information about the game?

3. Off-topic can be a great escape from certain trolls and lunatics on these forums. Walls and walls of texts about "mages vs templars" that soon escalates into "gay this, gender that, stop pushing your agenda, X topic is SJW.." These particular topics are simply that -- politics, which according to the rules, are forbidden to discuss in these forums, and ultimately.. OFF-TOPIC. Yet they are thinly veiled under Mass Effect or Dragon Age themes. Not only that, but there are flame wars, insults... how is this any more productive than off-topic?

In fact, I would say that the off-topic section (some parts, anyway) are at least friendly.

4. My last point. You may or may not realize, but such a decision may affect the fanbase, which means less money made for the company, as many people are evidently disgusted and upset with this action. It may not be personal, but they will see it that way, and take their gaming elsewhere. I keep hearing about bandwidth as an excuse.. which is kinda ridiculous really. Why have forums in the first place? EA makes tonnes of money from their games.. so that doesn't really add up.

Inspired to its detriment, in my opinion. Inquisition has too much filler and not enough story. The story aspects are excellent, mind you, and "In Your Heart Shall Burn" is one of the best sequences I've ever played through in any video game ever, but it's a small part of a game that's much too big. I didn't like the endless wandering and "ooo pretty!" landscapes that seemed to be included just for the sake of being pretty.

So, yes to the forum format. No to the game format. If I want to play an sandbox-style game I'll try to finish that second playthrough of Oblivion that I never got around to.

This is an excellent example of, "Oh hey! You don't have a bad community. You have an unmoderated community." Those are very different things.

Poorly moderated, and in my experience, completely unfair in some cases.

One example I can bring up is the "X in Andromeda. Thoughts?" trend. I made one, and not only was my topic locked I received a warning point. The reason was "spamming". Yet at the time, go look at the section and a majority of these "X in Andromeda" threads were still up, and active.

It's one thing to drop support for consoles (which they should be doing and I'm glad) and locking away a section of their forum. You can't really compare those specific things together.

Wrong. Not mid cycle of a game. In between games? Yes. We paying customers have a bigger gripe than you.

So I see the containment thread is still in full swing.

Have to thank BJ though, as it appears he's one of the few people at BW still willing to talk with fans.

To the rest of BW, grow up and just tell everyone what you're doing. Sticking fingers in you're ears is one of the most childish actions a mod team can take.

Everything hangs in the balance. It all depends on whether or not your XBL Gold is active. That is the deciding factor. That is what will determine where this ends up.

It depends on him in particular. Though I've just been told that he is moving and thus, will not have XBL Gold for perhaps a couple of weeks or so.

Soooo...yeah.
