Just finished until dawn, first game to genuinely scare me consistently ( atleast the first half)

Anyways long story short i help 3 of the characters live

I'm playing it tomorrow with a friend. I'm making her play and she isn't used to the PS4 controller. I'll be incredibly surprised if there's any survivors.

Two people survived initially, but then we went back and changed the final choice because we felt it wasn't clear and we got a lot more survivors and because Emily . But I think two survivors was pretty good considering.

And a bit strange... I mean... did I just murder the entirety of Arcadia Bay and Chloe and Max are fine with that? Did we just drive past the Two Whales diner, where Warren and Chloes mom probably died and we smiled? Did I just got an "Drive into the sunset" ending for that?

 

So many open plotlines and so few closure in that ending. Gotta test out the other one.

More like a monster. How can anyone sacrifice hundreds, if not thousands of innocents for the sake of a single individual? An individual that was fated to die in the first place. I could never do that. Max is responsible and she has the power to undo this. This is her responsability. Solas is not the only one with a messed up mentality as it seems.

I guess I took that choice to give the whole gaming experience some meaning. When letting Chloe die was the entire point of the narrative, why even bother to give Max travel powers in the first place?

Could have stopped the entire game after the first 30 minutes and told you "Hey... this is a time travel game. As usual in this genre everything you do is for naught, because the moral of the story is, like always: you can't fight fate."

To be honest, the ending just lacked the "Kill Max to save everbody else" decision to fullfil every time travel story cliché. I was hoping DONTNOD would somehow avoid those well-trodden paths, but alas...

 

But I agree with you that saving Chloe at the cost of Arcadia Bay is a pretty nasty and horrific choice to make and the ending is severly lacking and doesn't do it justice. Especially compared to the closure the other choice gets.

 

Still saved Chloe. I will be the monster, so you don't have to.

Welp, or no one is the monster. That works too...

 

Anyway, still I liked the ending a lot. The first time I watched, I had flies in my stomach. The final goodbye to Chloe, watching the pictures change a final time, and seeing the funeral. It was absolutely heartbreaking.

 

I suppose it's obvious they wanted the sacrifice Chloe to be "true ending" of the game, considering it's a lot more fleshed out, heartfelt and bittersweet in it's tone, wereas the other one is just short and it feels bleak. I personally already saw it all coming way back from episode 1, I knew that Max saving Chloe was the catalyst that triggered the paradox and created the storm. I'm just surprised that it ended exactly as I predicted. 

 

And for some reason, seeing Frank with his dog at the end made me think of this:

This is just me speaking, but I think that unlike ME3, they succeeded at the message of "it's about the journey, not the destination". You go back and undo everything, true,  but a lot was experienced and learned all the same.

 

Well, it's all pretty vague, but I theorize that Max at the beggining of the game choose the sacrifice Chloe option, but somehow forgot about everything that happened, and in result, had to start from scratch.

Beat episode 5 last night. Overall I loved the game, it's definitely in my top 5 for this year.

I really loved the whole nightmare sequence, especially the goofy lines for finding 2 (I missed one) optional photos. I'm not to sure about the last choice being between Chloe and Arcadia Bay though, especially since I wouldn't want to sacrifice an entire town for Chloe. I got a good sad chuckle out of the game guilt-tripping me to save the town, since I was going to save the town anyway.
