Espace d'étance aka "Off Topic Lobby"

It's available. Not too many people are using it. Expect some French.

Please observe all of BSN's rules while posting. In fact, it would be wonderful if those of you inclined to use the existing Off Topic forums for their intended purpose would be almost annoyingly well-behaved. Especially be nice to the people already using it.

And if you wanted to use Google translate to include a French phrase expressing kindness to the existing forum users when you post in there, just to be extra super-nice, that would be cool, too, I'm sure. smiley_innocent.gif

So the only option left is to invade France? This does not bode well. ;)

Hmm. That may not work as well as I'd hoped. :P

Apparently, they thought of this, and are keeping an eye on that place.

If you start posting English messages in the French community you will likely end up banned.

C'est la raison que j'avais dis t'utiliser Google Traduction.

Je pense que l'effort que les membres de BSN allons utiliser pour envoyer un message a pas beaucoup de limites.

The main thing is, there is an Off Topic forum available, it isn't locked, and the only requirements it has are following the rules. I don't think there's actually a rule against posting in any particular language, but I'm content to put French in my posts (I'm bilingual, so I suppose it's less effort for me.)

The French, German, and Polish sections of the forum are run by the community teams from those regions. I'm fairly certain they don't want a bunch of Google translated posts suddenly showing up.

I would think it would depend on the content of the posts, would it not?

Lots of people using English as a second language use these forums, and many of them use Google Translate to help them. It doesn't seem to bother the team here, so why would it bother someone else?

I think it would be best to ask one of their moderators first.

If it has actually reached a point where it isn't okay to post in forums without asking for moderator permission first, it would make more sense to lock up the entire site and sub-contract the BioWare Forums to another organization.

Honestly, it really would make more sense. The moderators can't be reached by PM - they won't answer (or even read) messages sent to them, as any member who has tried can tell you. Seeking their permission before posting is literally impossible.

English and Spanish does me no favors here.

Though there are some free sites that'll teach you French.

The French, German, and Polish sections are moderated by their respective community teams so you wouldn't be messaging the BioWareMod## accounts. I was suggesting it as a courtesy because you proposed posting an English message along with a Google translated version and I wasn't sure if that would be appreciated. Hence the original warning.

So I'm assuming that there isn't a English speaking off-topic board if people are considering having to move to other language boards?

Perhaps rather than an 'invasion' we should ask why the English version has been locked/removed.

I confess I've always disliked forums where the mods hide in the shadows, all that does it breed resentment toward them. All the best forums are where the mods are part of the community and don't hold themselves separate from it.

Because us off-topic people are toxic trash in this community and must be tossed into the incinerator.

Well, I am German and I'd have no trouble posting in the German Offtopic forum... but why would I? The people I want to talk to are all here and not there.

Bioware employees used to be VERY active on the forums. We had moderators, community moderators, and employees here all the time engaging in discussion.

But that was years ago. Now? We have Biomods that aren't allowed to have discussions, their job is to close threads, suspend posters, and handle reports while employees lurk. Supposedly.

It flat out sucks. This forum was way more fun when it seemed like Bioware actually cared about it. Then Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 happened. Now we're not worth it anymore. Or so it feels.

And no doubt this is another prime opportunity for BioWare to victimize itself in the face of that vicious community who just keeps being angry for no good reason ...

I'd say the community here had plenty a good reason to be angry. Angry for a long time.
