My son and I cannot seem to be able to get a multiplayer game going between us. We've tried over the net, by LAN with both computers connected, and direct connect with the IP address. No matter what we try it keeps saying server timed out. Any suggestions?

Did you set up a server? From your post it seems you tried a peer to peer setup. NWN2 doesn't support this.

No we didn't. I don't even know how to do that. We just hit the multiplayer button and expected to be able to play at least LAN like we can with NWN. I can't even get them to play with the two computers directly linked with an Ethernet cable. Can you explain what to do?

Isn't that the purpose of Skywing's Client Extension and Zelknolf's NWN2 Server Lists and Server Monitor?

Yes if you download the Client Extension everything will work and you'll be able to play multiplayer .

As far as LAN games go, the easiest way to set up a server in my experience is using Tunngle or a similar program. As others have said, use the Client Extension as well.
