I've seen a few posters that have brought up stuff I can understand... such as more Inner Circle style sidequests that allow some choices, getting to go to a city (didn't think it made sense for the main game, given the story, but I can see a DLC allow it), and a few other such wishes. BUt a lot of the "criticisms" I have seen have been "empty!", contradictory "I want a fleshed out protagonist but a protagonist I flesh out!", not enough character interaction in the vanilla game (to which I just facepalm), and a continued attack against the main story being the weakest story around yet very few ever post reasons why.
It wears thin after awhile.
And has it started yet or is everyone else waiting for the PAX stream on twitch?
Oh, god, you're not letting this go, are you?
Fine.
It felt empty, yes. Why? Do I need people every few meters so it'll make things more lively? No, but it would be nice if the people around me were actually there to begin with. Companion banter was pretty barebones, making me feel as if I was alone intruding in Valta and Renn's back and forth. The Legion of the Dead? Five guys. That's apparently all that stands between Orzammar and certain doom. Is that my only criticism? Not even close. All manner of decision is taken away from you in situations where it just makes common sense. The elephant in the room is the situation with Valta at the end which is eerily reminiscent of what happened with Corypheus in Legacy. Can you do anything about it? Nope, not even talk to the Shaperate to let them know Valta is dead/alive. Well but we can go back and investigate this mysterious civilization, can't we? Learn more about Titans, the machine-gun dwarves, all of it. Nope, Valta makes sure of that. Gameplay, combat? Absurdly difficult even in casual, not because enemies are smart and combine tactics to the best degree but because they are damage-sponges, making battles a tedious affair.
I still enjoyed the lore additions and the occasional vistas but Descent left me more frustrated than anything else. I fully respect others could've found it enjoyable, excellent even, but I would thank you not to lambast those who didn't.
