I finally got the longsword Hakkon's Honor, but looking at the stats it doesn't seem like that much.

I'm currently using Bitter Axe on my Templar with the following stats:

- 16% attack

- 15% critical chance

- 12% heal on kill

- 5% stagger on hit

- on kill target explodes for 100% weapon damage

Compared to Hakkon's Honor:

- 100% critical damage bonus

- 10% chance to grant walking fortress

- 10 % chance to use unbowed on hit

- the grip is empyt atm

My cunning is at 49.

So should I keep using Bitter Axe or switch to Hakkon's Honour - if so, what grip should I use?

I can't believe you got a Hakkon weapon and have to ask such questions. Sorry if I'm rude.

At least I'm not the only one who questions when Hakkon weapons are better, especially when there's comprable weapons which also have mod slots

There really aren't. Daggers are the only ones in a unique position because you can equip two, with only one of them being a hakkon dagger. So people always look for a good alternative for their off hand.

TC you should throw some crit chance on that honor and i guarantee its gonna outperform that bitter axe(unless you are running threatening).

I'd even say that Bitter axe could be better on peri since those explosions are nice. NM though, Hakkon is no doubt the absolute winner.

I think if you can one-shot most things with the bitter axe via wombo-combo (ie. willpower very high), then the axe becomes better than the honor sword because of the explode on hit proc.

the only one that is questionable imo is the hakkon greatsword. (but that has more to do with dragon rage.)

Just had that convo in another thread because I preferred alternate cleaver over hakkon on my Reaver. I just played some Katari with the Hakkon greatsword and now see that it's pretty good for him, but still don't Like it on my Reaver. With cleavers 37% HoK and less then 3 hits to kill any foot soldier enemy I don't think the approx 40 dmg increase is worth it. I don't want to worry about devour or rampage activation unless it's an emergency because someone's kill stealing on me. The cleavers high HoK let's you basically rip through the entire map at full health.

They are except that the wombo combo may not trigger HoK as I learned the hard way. Sad because the extra damage from mass explosions looked and sounded pretty awesome.

That's what I got as a reward for a solo nightmare fc run. Must be truly gamebreaking since I had more Savage Thorns than Highland Dirks.

i could maybe see the bitter ax if you had the Lvl 26 Isatunoll with the 10% Walking fortress proc, as the procs don'ts stack.  Also worth considering because the unbowed procs are all screwed up, sometimes full guard, sometimes next to nothing (you still get at least one bar) that 100% crit damage though... pretty tough to pass up

On a related note, the unbowed procs with Hakkon's Honor (10%) and the Revered Defender  Bulwark seemed to be even worse, the proc gives nothing all the time.

I have both weapons  and without question hakkon blows bitter out of the water on NM . On perilous and below with a few promotes i would go with Bitter since everything dies so fast , will just increase your killing speed.

I have both. It is a fair question to ask. Bitter Axe allows secondary explosions AoE damage on targets not normally stunnable / wombo combo'able. If survival is not an issue, and single target dps doesn't matter, you should run bitter axe with march of the everlasting or another +damage shield.

Templar doesn't benefit as much as Lego does from Hakkon's Honor, but definitely benefits from the secondary explosions as enemies die from Wombo Combo

That said, if you're struggling to kill things with wombo combo or survive, then use Hakkon's, but you will have a harder time killing enemies such as Brutes / Pride Demons / Behemoths / Red Knights because you don't benefit from secondary explosions whereas you would with Bitter Axe.

As for the grip: I like to have around 20-30% heal on kill on warriors, so it depends on how much cotton you have and if you're running heal on kill rings. I personally just do heal on kill on the weapon, and then critical damage bonus on both rings.

This, only assuming you have lower promotes. Bitter Axe pwns on Perilous and lower. Hakkon's Honor is huge for NM with lower promotes.

Cheers for the replies guys.

For NiM looks like I'll be going with Hakkon, SHoK ring, critical chance ring and superb stamina amulet on my Templar. (wombo, shield bash and shield wall).

I recently also received Hakkon's Honor as my first Hakkon weapon, with Bitter Axe being my 1H weapon of choice up to that point.  So I had to make this same call.

My initial impression, based on stats, was that the Hakkon was more geared to high-promotion players, because the 100% crit damage bonus provides more benefit to those with high cunning, whereas the Bitter Axe would be better for lower-promotion players, because of its higher crit chance.

Having now tested them extensively, though, I find myself almost never using Bitter Axe anymore.  Hakkon's Honor is very sweet indeed.  The Unbowed and Walking Fortress procs are a lot better than they sound on paper.

I have several NM runs and dont have this yet but the unbowed and walking fortress procs should be icing on the cake

wombo shield-bash and unbowed  is nearly unstoppable

I use bitter for low level because of the splash damage and Hakkon in Nightmare.

Note if you want to go the bitter axe route, you're better off using a blessed blades or horn of valor build to better make use of the explosions.
