I only use it when it helps to synergize the reload cycle - sometimes using the power efficiency mod will improve your recharge time just enough so that you can empty a clip and reload cancel with the power.  IIRC, I used to do this when I played the ACA with a hurricane and extended mag.  It would enable the dark sphere detonation cooldown to complete within a single hurricane clip.

Sidebar:  But... as of my latest revelation, I am thoroughly convinced that using an all power damage build is the best way to utilize this kit, even if you are using a heavy weapon (like the typhoon).  The reason is two-fold: 1.) Stacking DoT, and 2.) Ascension Stance.  I just did a couple solos with this type of build, and was utterly amazed at the results.  The power damage bonuses allow the DoT from DC and DS to kill rather efficiently, and enable DS detonations to kill any unshielded mooks + completely strip the shields away from those who have them.  Even on a 10+ second cooldown, these features are more desirable than the extra weapon damage, especially considering that things die scary fast when hit with warp or incendiary if they are already receiving DoT damage from DS and DC.  Finally, add in the Ascension stance 20% extra damage bonus and the kit becomes a straight up wrecking machine.

As an example, on gold, with a typhoon X + warp ammo IV, I was able to kill an atlas in less than one clip after DC + DS detonation.  I was also able to reliably kill groups of two dragoons and one phantom in about half a ciip after DC + DS detonation.  It was pretty incredible.  It is also nice that the cooldown on DS detonation completes within a single extended typhoon clip.

Full power damage is tempting, but it looks like the difference between my no fitness hybrid power damage/weapon damage build, you only gain 250 extra damage on dark sphere detonation every 10 seconds or so. That isn't worth it to me. Personally this is how I play him. You can swap out the PPR for CSMG if you want to do more of a power centered gameplay. But this way I don't have to respec him. He doesn't need fitness since he has good default barriers. Also ascension mode might be one of my least favorite things in the game. Extra power damage and recharge speed in return for more damage taken may sound like a good deal, especially with his power set, but the animation is long, and unless you're clearing waves really fast it doesn't last long enough. And the bang for buck just isn't there.

Having said that, I know there's different strokes for different folks, and I think they did a really good job with this character, simply because there are so many good and viable ways to spec him out. That's a sign of a pretty balanced kit IMO.

I go with a 6/6/3/6/5 build, because I don't find Dark Channel as much of a damage source but a great primer for Warp Rounds and some BEs with DS. I use Arc Pistol or CSMG as my weapon, but I find Arc Pistol a better option that kills faster.

It's more about the stacking DoT of DC and DS than it is detonation damage. BUT, and this is a big but, full power damage + ascension also allows you to take all radius evos on DS and still have it be equally effective at clearing out mooks.

And I hear you that Ascension Stance is annoying, BUT it is rediculous when you take fitness evo 6a. 20% extra damage (power and weapon), even if for only 45 secs, just allows you to wreck everything so fast. Btw, I never specced this way until yesterday, when I decided to solo with a power-centric build... I was just amazed at how fast my weapon was killing things.

6/6/4/6/4 or maybe 6/6/5/6/3 for me, with the CSMG preferred.  I mostly use Dark Channel as a quick stagger and primer for Warp Ammo, so I don't feel a need to max it.

Comparing our builds side by side (yours/mine), yours will definitely dish out more damage (although the DOT numbers for DS aren't correct I think). The bigger difference is you have 25% extra damage taken and I have 40% damage reduction. Now I also have 125 less health, and ~200 less barrier, but it would feel like a lot more than that with the damage reduction and damage taken factored in. You also get an extra 2 damage per shot on the PPR (obviously would be a slightly larger increase with higher damage weapons). I'm just not patient enough to wait for DOT. I know DS->DC->PPR to the face wipes Reaper spawns like nobody's business. It would be cool to see how your build does. Do you have any recorded footage using it?

I ran something similar to yours for a long time - and tbh the issue was mostly related to the PPRs substandard perfomance against mobs of shielded mooks (e.g. cerberus).  By going all power damage w/ ascension stance, you can take a more well rounded heavy weapon (typhoon, harrier, venom, reegar, etc.) and not feel disadvantaged against any faction.  Still surprisingly tanky, too.

As for footage, here's the gold solo I just uploaded to the HoF using the reegar.

And here's a screenshot of another gold solo using the typhoon (will upload if I can improve the time to sub-25 or so).

*edit: My build is a bit different than what you suspected.  See here: http://kalence.drupa...!24N53364!G.9DF

Namely, the only Ascension Stance bonus that I take is fitness 6a.  The others do not provide enough bang for buck, but 6a gives 10% extra recharge and 10% extra damage.
