I've been holding my breath for quite some time, and though I liked the Rogue specs in DA 2 and DAI, I'm still waiting to play another Bard in Dragon Age.

It has been my favorite concept to play bards in almost every fantasy RPG and I LOVED my Warden-Commander Bard-Ranger-Scout in Origins.  Granted, I always felt a little overshadowed by Leiliana's history as a bard, but still...  she didn't kill an Archdemon, I did and I wrote the hit-single about the deed too!

I always felt that Sarcastic Hawke would have made an awesome bard.  DAI, on the other hand, I guess the Quizzy is a bit bland to be a bard, so I let the opportunity pass even as the Devs left the Bard specialization withering away in the dustbin, even as we passed through Orlais- the garden spot of bards.

But now, I say bring back the Bard!!!

Hell... in Tevinter maybe there's a place for bards, right?  They don't even have to be a Rogue spec really, could be a Mage spec if you think about it.

Anyhow...  C'mon Devs!  Bring back the Bard!

If you had to cut a specilization for bard what would it be?  Well I wouldn't mind cutting Tempest for Bard, myself.  Also could cut Artificer.

Probably Artificer...  the teamwork buffs of the Bard would seem to replace that niche better, and to be honest, I never liked the Artificer spec myself.  It feels even more awkward on Varric, as the Artificer synergizes better with a melee rogue build than a ranged one.

Yea, the more I think on it, the more I would say definitely cut Artificer out and replace it with Bard.

Honestly, I don't see what a Bard spec has to offer over the ones that already exist.

Artificer turned out to be a surprise contender for most powerful spec and Tempest offered an option for those who wanted to play a more warrior like rogue.

That said, I'm not opposed to the Bard spec coming back just not at the expense of the specs already on offer.

We had four specializations in DA:O. Why are we settling for three in DA2 and DAI? :)

I want a Bard class that actually allows you to play music. So while your companions are doing the fighting, you can do the jamming.

Let's take it a step further; allow people to compose their own short songs and post 'em online/have 'em used in-game.

Bam.

I like bards too, but rather from the D&D universe and not those assassins from DA.

I like those too!   That's why I wondered if they might not make an appropriate Mage spec in a place like Tevinter, but the flavor so far in most of Thedas is Bard is a Rogue spec, probably because of the more spy/assassin angle.

Can't say I ever really played a bard. I do want the Ranger back... I miss having a pet bear at my side.

I have to admit, I barely understand what the advanced archer specializations were in Inquisition, because I barely used them for three reasons:

  • By the time I got there, I had already run out of ability quick slots, more or less.
  • Without being able to set specific tactics, I had no incentive to understand how to use them, and the AI didn't always seem to use them effectively.
  • I almost never play any of my companions except for my tank, because I find party control to be too annoying in this game.

Anyway, I liked the bard in DA:O, but it seems like a remnant from the era of sustained abilities in the franchise. I'm sure it could be updated, and I wouldn't be opposed at all. I love classes that can buff the whole party. I almost always take Leliana with me on my current playthrough of Origins.

I do, too, honestly. They weren't without their issues, but it was one of the features that made party combat a bit more streamlined in the previous games. I'm not really a huge fan of having to watch Cassandra's portrait all the time to ensure she still has her guard up. I sort of preferred the set-it-and-forget-it abilities.

I mean, it's double-edged, I guess, because when you're actually controlling your tank, say (to continue that example), it's a little more interesting to have to actively block enemy abilities. Buuuuut...I don't know. I never really played Dragon Age for that sort of thing.

I have to admit I always found the concept of a bard - magical buffing music variety - to be a bit silly. I never play a rogue character so I don't really have a horse in the race, so to speak, but if the bard does come back I'd like there to be actual signing and music vs. the absurd gutural screaming we had in DAO (recycling the sound effect for the Champion's War Cry was not the best idea, IMO).

I whole-heartedly agree about the guttural screaming, but an Ayvar Skald could justifiably use that as their sound fx!

Maybe Maryden will turn out to have really been a bard and will return in the next game as a playable character.
