I understand that there are those playing this game that want to grind out as many promotions as possible, that is up to you, that is how you have your fun & I'm not going to judge you on it. Myself I like to try to play for fun & I will use a character at lv20 for between 1-5 matches, depending on how long it takes me to get them to their most effective.

I have put my own point across on several threads regarding promotions & I personally don't see a problem with someone running around at max level, but just lately I'm encountering more and more hostility to this, I've just come from a game where I was running a lv20 Lego & when the match was over, I received a message over the psn effectively ordering me to promote my character as the message simply read "steel promote."

Like I say, I get that there are those that want to promote as soon as they hit the max level, but do you consider it right to order a person to promote, considering they had been working greatly with the team & wanted to have their own fun?

Thanks.

If you force people to promote then you're an *******, plain and simple.

People can stay lv20 in games that I host.  I do not mind in the slightest.

Level 1 isn't fun at all.

That said, I feel not promoting will hurt you in the long run but that is entirely up to you.

Having someone else play a level 20 in my games, more often than not, just speeds up the exp I get per hour

Im thinking they were trying to be nice and suggest you don't waste a ton of time not building exp  towards the next promote

don't be too harsh they probably mean well

I'll usually get on mic to say "you can promote if you want". This is not to order someone to do it but to let them know that I'm not someone that would kick them for being level 1 in perilous and don't mind carrying them for a match. It also serves to gently encourage them to promote because I truly believe it is in their best interest.

Hi, i was in that game. I did not _order_ you to do a promote. But we were all in the high teens, so you had the change to level up fast.
I feel sorry if you left the game because of this.

I feel it was a bad call to have base stats tied to promoting your character. While you're not being held forced to promote directly, if you don't promote, you won't become stronger over the long term. I mean think about it. How many games have you run - as a percentage - with a level 20 character as opposed to level 1-19? I'd be amazed if it was even 2%.

I had a positive experience alike yours in my first perilous run. I got into a lobby where people actually used their mics. Doing a bit of casual chatting and giving each other directions about treasure room doors, red templar shadows etc.
I got in there with a lvl 19 reaver. The first and then only character I felt comfortable with on that difficulty. After the first run, she was lvl 20 and I pressed ready again. Someone called my name and told me in a friendly manner that I should promote her or take another toon. I said that I didn't feel comfortable playing another or promoted toon on this difficulty yet due to gear and a small number of promotes. The answer I got was: we will carry you happily.

Perhaps the people you played with meant the same thing. It's not in their short term interest that you join with a non lvl 20 character. Sometimes, when not speaking face to face, a conversation can sound a bit harsh or negative. Always try to look through that. People might actually try to be helpful :)

And of course the best way to do more damage and survive longer is to get higher base stats.

I usually add people to friendlist and tell them to promote if:

a) I met them in a Routine / Threatening game...

B) They have bad gears or die quickly in these difficulty...

c) They stay at level 20 for multiple games...

Try to make it clear you are just letting them know the promotion system exists and it is just a tip though, to avoid annoying people.

This can apply 99% of the cases, the other 1% is stolen by assassins :bandit:  <_<

I call this a nut kicker situation, as in anyone berating a person for being level 20 should be kicked in the nuts.

Yeah, most likely they were just trying to give some helpful advice but the world is in no short supply of belligerent douches. Play the game how you want and honestly as long as you are playing a difficulty you can handle a lvl 20 is great to have on the team, speeds things up. Rock on and don't sweat it if people encourage you to promote. You stand on righteous ground.

I apologise, I didn't quite hear what you said over your headset & I'll update my post based on that as I was feeling pretty sh*tty when I made the post, I've since gone for a walk & cleared my head.

I'm not going to say which one of the others sent me that message though & if they meant well they could simply have put pls on the end of it. But yes, I did leave the game because I just felt like I wasn't enjoying it anymore.

No hard feelings.

That doesn't sound like someone ordering you to promote.

And that makes it sound more like someone was extending a courtesy to the OP.

This feels like inventing a problem that doesn't exist.

Apparently, I am fantastic about those.

Ask my wife.  She tells me that all the time...

A lot of people think a level 20 means that the player is new and has low stats (especially if showing a generic banner).

Personally, I don't care.  Having people to actually play with is what's most important.

I was running some Nightmare dragons last night, and someone in my game messaged me asking if it was OK if they promote and switch to a different character.  Who am I to tell someone to promote or not promote?  Do whatever you want as long as it's not a hindrance to the team.

I think they are just being nice? They might think that the rest of the team need him/her/it playing a specific role like barrier or CC.

Although I wonder if the game should include some sort of pop up or include some explanation in the Proving Grounds to teach the players about promotion. Not all of them notice it, or they might assume it is the same as ME3 (I haven't played that).

If i see a lv20 in one of my perilous lobbies i'll usually get on the mic and tell them that they can promote its no problem. most of the time(pretty much every time) they feel relieved and promote and tell me the reason they throw in a lv20 first is to gain "respect" and make it okay to promote the next game, they usually say they don't like to come in as lv1s since it more than likely leads to them being kicked. It has been like this pretty much every single time over hundreds of games, the only other exception being people who just don't talk on the mic. Not once have i had a person tell me they don't promote because they "enjoy" lv20s and it makes sense too, anyone who has put a decent amount of hours into this game knows the deal.. you progress in this game by promoting if you are not promoting you are making no progress. That being said i'm not gonna kick someone or make them feel bad for sticking to a lv20, i just like to let people know that its ok to be lv1 in my lobbies.
