Hi all!

I tried different builds for the Necro, but I'm still not satisfied.

I usually go with Winter's Grasp and Walking Bomb as skills, but I can't decide about the other two. I tried Fade Step, Spirit Mark, Mind Blast, Ice Mine and Blizzard in different combinations, so I was wondering if any of you can share the most reliable build they have.

I usually play threatening, but I would like to play her also on Perilous.

You will get a lot of varying responses on this one because she is one of the few characters imo that does not have a near optimum build  (which is a good thing, she can be effective any number of ways.)

My usual build is not the best but one that I just like.  Winters Grasp, Horror, Frost step, walking bomb.

Frost step is just a pure life saver for the characters that have it and can let you play a bit more aggressively.  Winters grasp and horror are still good distance crowd controllers.  At times I take blizzard rather than walking bomb but that is rare.

I use walking bomb for distant targets. When a melee dude gets to close, I immediately plant an ice mine for ice armor protection. Mind blast is also an excellent defense against melees.

Horror is pretty underrated. Like Beerfish I usually use that build or maybe replace Frost step with Fade cloak.

I think its pretty popular to use the following:

Walking Bomb / Fade Cloak / Frost Step / Winters Grasp/Horror/Mindblast

Fade Cloak is a must, in my opinion. Even if you don't feel comfortable using it offensively its CC removal is too good to pass up.

I use Walking Bomb, Winter's Grasp, Ice Mine, and Horror.

Ice Mine is mostly for ice armour. Try just stand on it and don't move around so you get winter's stillness buff.

Use winter's grasp when enemies come into close range.

Use Walking Bomb as much as you can. Horror is also good CC. Make sure you upgrade Horror otherwise its cost is ridiculous.

Virulence is what Necro is all about. And Ice Armour is what keeps you alive.

If you just want to use her in Perilous, try replace Ice Mine with Blizzard.

Hmmm, I'll have to try fade cloak on characters again I guess.  I only ever used it for the offensive bit in the past (but I hate the effect it has on other party members.)

I agree. Fade Cloak is pretty good for Threatening / Perilous. Walking Bomb is just awesome. A tip is to target a cluster of enemies and then just detonate WB immediately (don't wait for it to kill the target) so it spreads asap to the others.

Couple sweet videos of the Necro in action:

Pre-Armor buff. Pre-Walking Bomb Criticals. Played by someone with 11 constitution. Yes, this players willpower was extremely high for when the video was taken(months old). But he was using a Pyre of the Forgotten. Staffs have extra base damage now and much better tier 3 schematics are available.

Gives you an idea of how to use the play-style.

The following is more a Mind Blast showcase. But again demonstrates how to use the Fade Cloak / Frost Step play-style.

I like winter's grasp, fade cloak, horror, and walking bomb.I also use the Yavanalis staff for the 5 guard on hit.

The best thing would be to try out some different combinations and see which fits your playstyle best.

I always run Fade Cloak, Fade Step and Walking Bomb in my builds. I woud normally use Winter's Grasp as my 4th ability but lately I've tried switching that for Mind Blast, which makes the Necro a little more cqc-oriented as well as having a somewhat better XP output. I use Hakkon staff, Cooldown amulet, Walking bomb and Crit damage rings. I have 104 Promotions on my Necro. I love playing her.

Fade cloak, step, walking bomb and whatever. Usually winter grasp for ice armour but MB also works pretty well.

Maybe they have finally accepted that Spirit Mark is bad not that good.  Don't get me wrong, it definitely has uses for self res... but that AI

Few things as annoying as someone who doesn't kill their spirit pet while everyone waits around for the key to drop at the end of a zone.

I always go with Horror / Winter / Walking Bomb. On the fence between Frost Step and Spirit Mark, since Frost Step is really handy.

Spirit Mark does have a lot of problems though - mages are no good for pets as they like to set mines but the mines only work on players. Pride and Behemoth tend to get in the way. Maybe the Bolters will fare better now?

Ice Armor build with Blizzard or Ice Mine ( mostly for nightmare) and Horror is good.

Haven't seen anyone recommend Flashfire yet, it makes for a pretty fun combo with Horror/WB/WG and Winter's Stillness. You can shut down a lot without having to even move

Spirit Mark sucks

Fade Cloak is kind of advanced and works poorly with Gathering Storm, Winter's Stillness and the necro's poor physical defense.

Fade Step has a similar problem if your necro is at risk of taking too much dmg and costs 2 whole ability points

Mind Blast is not good, it doesn't even look good in the video posted

Shutdown/Ice Armor makes for the safest, most high difficulty ready necro

Fade Step is really just for fun if you're alrdy strong enough

Care to elaborate?

Also, knocking Frost Step because it costs too many points while promoting Blizzard is ridiculous.

I like to cast Spirit Mark toward the end of the zone and hold the speedrunners hostage until they go back and open the doors they passed, and clean up the pots they ignored.

Also Spirit Marked bolters are great fun.

Wow, these are a lot of suggestions, thanks for sharing.

I really like her because you can play her in many different ways.

Maybe I'll try Flashfire, since I've never used it on any character.

Yeah, Spirit Mark AI always felt like trash. One moment it is the most lethal enemy on the field and suddenly it's the Inquisition Captain.

I remember the first time I Spirit Marked a Stalker on zone 5.  It killed the Venatori Commander in 15 seconds flat all by itself.

I also remember having a pet giant that just stood around next to a bunch of enemies for the whole duration of Spirit Mark.  It just made it impossible to attack anything it was standing next to, but I'll be damned if I am not going to dismiss him without at least watching him crush some mooks first!
