I notice people struggle with this every time they go to make a lettered point list. It's not their fault, it's the way the site was coded to use text shortcuts for smileys.
The phenomenon ends up looking like this:
a) This is the first point.
This is the second point, but it looks like the person writing it threw a smiley in for no reason.
c) This is the third point, and it looks normal.
The reason the above happens is because the site's software auto-detects certain character combinations, and applies different results, depending on the shortcut. In this case, the character combination "b)" is the shorthand for the "cool smiley." ![]()
The only way around this is to sort of trick the auto-detect software so that you can make your point list normally. The way to do that is to place characters in between the "b" and the ")" that the software will detect and apply effects to, but those effects are invisible. The easiest way to do this is with tags. Which ones you use are important, because not all will work. I use either the Bold tags or the Italics tags.
There is an automatic function in the post window for those, but you can manually enter the tags. They look like this:

Everything before the tag is normal everything between them is italicized and everything after is normal.
And when applied to the letter points, it looks like this:

a) b) c)
And the end result is:
a) Looking normal
b) That still looks normal
c) And the lettered points work.
Or you could use numbers, since those aren't auto-detected. ![]()
