I've searched for answers everywhere but nobody ever mentions the key required to open this damned trapdoor in the first place.

All i remember is that it had something to do with the two golems, sorry if it's no help.

There isn't any option to activate them for anything and the key to open the trapdoor isn't nearby either.

Funny that all people say is "the key of haakon is under the trapdoor" like there is nothing required to unlock it.

I just remember that there was a statue and two golems, and there's two options one of them gives you... i don't know , gold i guess.. and another one.

 

Does this ring a bell to you? am i making sense or just talking rubbish?

Ahh, you mean the altar in the beginning. You place an offering on it, and there different options.

But I've already done that. Surely the devs wouldn't make it so that you'd be permanently unable to finish the quest if you picked the wrong one.
