re: Templars and Mages as resources for a country.
I honestly see templars becoming part of the army being a WORSE option than the previous circle system, especially for mages in terms of oversight.
Mainly because I don't see why templars would have more oversight than before. Previously, templars not only had their own rules/regulations but had oversight from the Seekers who were a SEPARATE faction. Which means that you are less likely to have cover-up since as seekers aren't recruited from either the mage or templar ranks, they are less likely to be biased for or against the circle system since they never actually lived it a la the templars and mages. Look at it like this; In the previous circle system, a mage actually had 4 option if there was templar abuse - the templar's direct superior in the circle, the first enchanter (both of these options one could say cancel each other out based on bias), the chantry sister/mother that are in many circles and the seekers. A templar in an army is only going to have 1 superior and maybe the noble directly in charge of that force.
There's also the fact that I see no reason why a templar in say the Neverran army is going to LOOK differently than a typical Neverran knight. The templars wore distinct uniforms since they were part of a separate organization but why would put a bullseye on separating out its knights that have templar training and regular knights (and I'm doing it myself here as well...what makes us think that templars would be a separate force?)
I honestly don't see how this doesn't lead to more abuse....
