Morning, All.  So there I was last night playing a Human female Arcane-Rift Mage who had every intent on romancing Sera....I took her on every mission, I talked with her and flirted unashamedly with her every chance I got--I got the "rooftop cookies" scene and I thought I was on the right track.  But all she said to me was "I like you yeah.  Let's travel around more and get to know each other" (hence taking her on every mission).  Then came the "Well of Sorrows" and I even did two different runs (one where I drank and another where I let Morrigan drink from it) and neither was any different.  Then in both cases when I got back to Skyhold- after she pointed an arrow at my head....The romance instantly died (as in the 'heart' option was no longer on the dialogue wheel).  My only choices were "friendly roof time" and "Get out of my Castle!"

I think I've just been 'Friend Zoned'.

Then I'd decided that it may not be too late to latch on to Cullen....And even though I was nearing the very end of the game he and my Inquisitor had a whirlwind, but very passionate romance.

But my question is....How does a human female Inquisitor romance Sera?    (I'm doing many different playthroughs and I want to experience all the romance options separately)  This time around I wanted to do Sera's....But I guess she had other ideas.

Any suggestions how Lady Trevelyan can properly court this sassy, fun-loving elf?    And does drinking from the Well cancel out a romance with her or not, or does it make any difference at all?   Cause I couldn't find any info in the Strategy Guide on that specifically.

Thanks!

Did you have a lot of disapproval with her ?

I've never romanced Sera , but the Well of Sorrows is almost endgame so you should have been able to romance her way before that?

I don't know all the details, but I have heard that the Sera romance can be somewhat tricky and glitchy. From what I remember, here are all the things you have to do to successfully complete the romance:

- Raise Sera's approval rating a lot (I believe you have to raise it more than with others, but I'm guessing)

- Exhaust every dialogue option available, including the ones that automatically lower approval (this is the part that some people get hung up on.) Every dialogue option has to be taken, so there are probably certain story-dependent dialogue events that have to have occurred before the romance can progress.

- When you reach a critical stage, you will be given a mission involving speaking to all the companions about a potential gift for Sera. After progressing to this stage, you no longer have to worry about exhausting all dialogue options with her. You do have to worry about Vivienne. While you don't actually have to speak to all of the companions (I did to be safe) you must get Vivienne's dialogue on the matter or the romance storyline won't progress.

- From there, I think you just have to navigate Sera's neuroses to avoid disaster.

Good luck with the next one. Hopefully someone with more "romance story" expertise can fill in any gaps that I missed.

She should have a romance quest, I think. Did you check your inner circle quests for her romance quest?

How many times did you click the "im into you" option?

Er... You should've started the romance way before Mythal. It's pretty easy to lock it in before Halamshiral and Adamant. A common mistake that people make, which it sounds like you may have made here, is not exploring all the conversation options (except kicking her out), even the one that looks like it might be a bit rude about her not being like other elves. If you've done all that and her approval is high, you will then get her romance quest which is to ask all the other companions what they think you should do for a present.

Spoiler

After that you'll get her "romance" scene, plus another that triggers after Halam and Adamant where she's afraid of losing you.

P.S. "Friend-zoned". Ugh. I hate that phrase."

Morning All....Thank you all very much for your quick yet thorough responses.  Let me see if I can answer all of the questions:

-I'm not sure how high or low her approval or disapproval of me was, but I did go through all the conversation options minus the one that says "you don't fit...."

- I clicked the "I'm into you" option every time I saw it, as well as trying to mix that in with other lines of conversation-even the ones about her being 'different from other elves'

-I had heard somewhere that you have to talk to Vivienne about her opinion and ideas for a gift, so I went looking for her but never got that option even when I asked her (vivienne) what she thought of her companions.  She prattled on about Dorian, Varric and even Blackwall...But never Sera.

The closest I got was the "Rooftop Cookies" scene.  And that was it.  After that it was just "two friends sitting on the rooftop...."

I will try again another time, but thank you all for your help and advice.

Some tips to get high approval from Sera early: Either conscript the mages or disband the Templars and absorb them into the Inquisition. She doesn't like an alliance with either. Do all the quests in the Hinterlands where you can help the little people with her along. She tends to approve. Weirdly, flirting with Scout Harding also boosts her approval. If you want a more detailed list of places to gain her approval, you could check the wiki.

Okay so from what i gather she always says "lets travel" to the "im into you" thing right? So you may need to do her pranking thing, her quest(the one with the noble), and/or get her approval up in order to get the response that starts the actual romance.

You will need her romance quest (A Woman Who Wants for Nothing) for those options to become available.

Did you do her prank quest? What about meeting the noble?

Took me a few tries to figure out how to get her romance to trigger.

After completing her personal quest where you meet the noble arse, you have to talk to her at Skyhold and ask if her 'group is still active.' Then (if your approval is high enough) you can choose "I'm interested in you" and her response will be "Right, you come with me" instead of "let's travel around more."

There are also Red Jenny caches, if someone hasn't mentioned. And you get the most approval if you're Qunari. And a serious tag if you're elven.

Also agreeing with Solas, asking his advice when you have them in party together knock aproval down. If you tell her you believed anything at Mythal she'll go nuts. Hope this helps.

Hello again.....Thanks to everyone for their/your posts. I will try another playthrough and bare your advice in mind.  Right now though, I'm doing a playthrough where Cassandra is my main focus.  I have to say I really enjoy her character- specially considering the hard-ass she was in DA:II...I enjoyed that.  But seeing the development this time...how she can be hard...and then funny....and then surprisingly soft and vulnerable- then back to...a- what did Varric call her a "tall, grumpy Seeker" is I think some amazing writing.  Ranks right up there with my favourite from Bioware including: Isabela, Merrill, Varric, Jack, Tali, Grunt and of course Shepard.

Not to mention I totally dig Miranda Raison's accent! (Sorry for rambling and going on a small tangent).  Thanks again for the help.

Any combo of these should do it:

Sera has some war table quests that boost approval.

If you take her to Halamshiral and find her Jenny caches, there's a 'Sera Approves' for each one.

Have her in your party and flirt with Harding every time you visit a new area (Sera approves each time).

Pick judgements that suit her morality (punishing the guilty, helping people, funny stuff).

On her personal quest, allow her to kill the noble or take his lands for yourself (nobility perk option). Upon returning to Skyhold, say you support her.

Conscript mages/templars (she greatly disapproves of allying with either)

Recruit Wardens. If you exile them, allow Blackwall to stay (you get no approval over all, but it cancels out her disapproval).

Keep Celene alive ( I think you also get approval for confronting Florianne publically)

I got a fair amount of disapproval with her on my romance, so you don't have to do everything on the list. Her romance should be locked in long before What Pride Had Wrought. If you do WEWH just before that, you can get her dance too.  ^_^ I recommend it, she has a very cute romance!

I've made no less than 3 attempts at romancing Sera, all ending up nowhere.  I refuse to follow a walkthrough, so I'm afraid it just won't happen.  The girl is too persnickety.
