i've noticed that i do significantly worse than average in plat games than gold. like in gold (and lower) i usually get as many points as everyone else, but plat i get like.. half of what other people get, unless i pick the highest dmg setups i can think of.

so do the best people just play exclusively plats, or am i just bad? (i mean the second one is true regardless, i can barely solo gold with my krogan warlord, and no one else) but still, i'd expect these guys to show up on lower difficulties too...

You're probably getting fairly lucky, as far as consistently running into good players in Platinum. I think most people have the opposite problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about the score issue, personally. I'll only play Platinum when friends (who tend to play it a lot) invite me, so my score is always about half of theirs.

There's an increase in bullet sponge enemies, and a lot more armour around in Platinum. Other than using your highest damage setups, stacking armour piercing or something similar is all I can think of that might make a difference (if you don't do that already.)

That's because the ME3 Pros play on plat. The rest of us scrubs play gold.

It's very much a question also of experience and time spent on the game as it is about skills.

Some people have played the game so much that they know where to be on the map to catch the spawns and the most efficient way to deal with them.

Platinum is different from gold, it's more challenging (and a lot more fun in my opinion), but everyone including the best have only reached that level from long experience and a lot of time invested, if you like platinum then hang in there! A good idea is also to check video guides from example Invaderone which shows you how to deal with platinum with different kits and weapons.

well no, i wouldn't say they're necessarily good, i mean we still lose a fair amount, but even then they're doing much better than me.

and ya, i don't even know anyone who's played any ME game, let alone still plays ME3... umm besides my mom i guess, but we're on the same account

Probably has a lot to do with where your manifest is at. Platinum has a lot more armor and bosses, so power builds aren't quite as effective, but obviously still viable. Really good guns and good equipment make a big difference in general, but especially in platinum.

agreed that it's way more fun than gold - i got bored with gold a few months after launch and only came back recently, where i somehow managed to make it unfun again by deciding to complete all the challenges, which forces me to play a bunch of dumb characters/weapons

idk, is 255hrs a lot of time? i guess not, if i've put 1700hrs into LoL and am still only top 5%

haha thanks, but i think i got past the point of befriending ppl on the internet with runescape

IMO, Plat is all about DPS and destroying armor as fast as possible.  Gold is just play whatever.

Concentrate on builds geared towards clearing out armor quicker, and your Plat experience will improve.  After a while, you'll get the hang of Plat more.  Then you can treat it like Gold... just play whatever.

I don't PUG Platinum any more; the few times I have done so have quickly soured me on the idea. Based on my experiences with Plat PUGs and what you said above OP, I'd cautiously say you're probably either not playing the right kits, or you're not ready for Platinum. I'll PUG Gold without issue, b/c even when the only thing on the menu is lots of curry, I feel like I can rise to the occasion more often than not.

The only time I ever play Plat is with members of AHF, in which case, I am more than satisfied with half their score, b/c they're 1337 players, and as stated, I don't play it often.

I only PUG platinum if it's on the presets I like for pugging on Platinum. If it's all on unknown, I bail, because I don't want to risk screwing up my peasetree nor do I want waste consumables on a lobby that may fail.

Wow. Quite a burn, there. :( :( :(

Was trying to point you at how you find people to play with, not persuade you seek a soulmate on the forum.

this.

and this is also the reason (aside from boring boss spam) why so many of the "best" players are sick of Platinum and just play Gold. more opportunities to play with some variety and try new things, etc...

I'll accept total blame for that if you can explain to me what I wrote in in post #7 that justified the dissing of post #8.

Plat players are just more likely to try to fry you in the Reactor, as far as I can tell.  And if you happen to be one of the French guys I ran into yesterday when playing some U/U/P  - OPS Packs FTW!!!  :D  :P

As others have said, make sure you have some armour-piercing capabilities and don't worry so much about your score. Another tip is to be wary of the Infiltrators you're playing with, if you're not one yourself.  I often 'pair up' with another player, even if they don't realise it, but Platinum is the only level I tend to notice the aggro dump because of the extreme prevalence of TGIs and EDIs. I kinda hate it tbh, but Plat PUGs are like the Final Frontier to me at this stage in the game's life if I actively want a challenge. Lobbies seem even more hit-and-miss than Gold though.

I see two possibilities :

-You don't have a maxed manifest. People outscoring you simply use better guns and gear. In most cases, in plat it's important to use weapons performing well against armor to contribue significantly ;

-If you have a maxed manifest, then it's a matter of confidence. You don't really feel comfortable in plat yet, so you play too defensively. Just get more hours in this difficulty and you"ll likely come close to the other players' scores at some point.

Also, there's nothing wrong in befrending people on the internet lol.

L2P, in gold you need move fast, in plat you need move really fast!!!, that's the big difference right through my years of saving the galaxy have been found, if you need a space wizard  :wizard:  you have my harrier X!!!

Plat vs. Gold = Different strokes for different folks. As others have said, DPS is a huge factor on plat, as well as dealing with different enemy types, most notably phantoms and banshees - at the same time. I used to play a lot of plat on PS3: it was a lot of fun and I made a lot of friends. IMO, friends are necessary for maximal platinum enjoyment.

The problem with plat pugging, if you haven't found already, is that every now and then you get stuck in a game where some people have no clue, which means that you basically have to solo/duo several waves in order to extract: this is not fun. That being said, I have played quite a few enjoyable, no mic, plat pugs... but then again there have been at least as many where I was hating life because 2 of the 4 players would get dropped every 30 seconds.
