Hmph....contemporary setting sounds unexciting. It's the only kind of setting I tend to avoid by default. They'd need to spice it up with something fantastic, or I'm not interested. Probably. One never knows.

"Excellent Sheet Madness" was a name I used during my stint as an exotic dancer in Reno

Considering the direction Shadow Realms (which I know is completely unrelated to the new IP, or is it! Dun, dun, dun!!! jk idk) of combining magic and reality in some strange weird mash-up I am pretty confident Bioware will pull something cool to make the setting more than just contemporary. I don't think Bioware has ever done a 'normal' contemporary setting (games like GTA, Heavy Rain, etc), and I don't know that they could. Writing a non-fantastical contemporary setting is very different than writing science fiction.

Oh game development, sometimes you feel like this and I can't decide it it feels strangely satisfying or plain weird

Oh I dont know if I would call Heavy Rain "normal" per se; it does have its share of supernatural madness
Most of it was cut from the final product. You can still see residues of the intended paranormal connection here and there. But this is not really the place to talk about it ![]()
Still, I agree with you - I think that supernatural/magical elements are going to come into play in the new IP. At least, I would be quite baffled if they did not, for all the reasons you mentioned. And not to armchair (desk chair) dev, but the industry at large seems to very much be operating under the "use all parts of the druffalo buffalo" mentality, so I also would not be surprised if whatever was left from Shadow Realms was cannibalized for the new IP in some shape or form.

Satisfying. That is always satisfying.

If my character can wear stiletto sandals (with or without mods) it is a good game, if not, it is not.

That's how I feel.
I mean, i enjoyed Alpha Protocol, but that's partly because it was a novelty in the RPG market and it tended to be a bit wacky.

My first play through I did the standard stealth, silenced pistol and that was fun. Then I tried to start a game with assault rifles, and I felt the game just punishing me left, right, and center for not playing the way it wanted me to. Which begs the question why is Assault Rifle, Shotgun, and SMGs in there at all? It was an ok game, but overall disappointing.

It's 1:30 on a Thursday. The sun is shining. It's a beautiful fall day. And @bbattye is plotting to murder us all for our word budgets.
It's not like that's Plan A!
...Your Plan A was, "try to lure birds to eat other writers." THAT IS NOT BETTER, BRIANNE.
Not eat! Take for a gentle flight!
I have read "Small Gods." I KNOW WHAT BIRDS DO WITH TURTLES.

It did have great reactivity to choice, but that's something we'd like to see more of regardless of genre.

Hmmmmm. Once again, in the above posting, we have:
Familiar with third/first person shooter mechanics, experience with cover systems and cameras.
I hope it's not first-person; that's the one thing that guarantees I'll never play it. (I can't because I get motion sick.) If it's a third-person shooter I'll at least consider picking it up on sale like I did with the Mass Effect games.

I honestly think it's just a matter of requesting that the potential employee have experience with similar enough type of gameplay without making the requirement overly specific. Someone with work experience on FPS mechanics is going to have plenty of relevant skills to put towards a third-person shooter. More than a person who only has experience working on, say, an RTS.
And if they asked for only people who have worked on third-person shooters, they're going to potentially lose perfectly acceptable applicants by narrowing the field too much.

I know how you feel, I have the same problem. It greatly limits the games I can play, unfortunately.I hope it's not first-person; that's the one thing that guarantees I'll never play it. It can still be a contemporary setting but still have fantastical elements. Imagine playing a character that discovers that they have powers and meet up with other super powered individuals. The plot of the game pushes you and your companions to form a team to stop a major threat.
Sorry....rambling.....miss City of Heroes.
