Ah thanks. Just wanted to be sure. Strongly mixed feelings.
Favourite writer leaving, but she's working on something new and exciting so yay!

Hey, if he/she can find a better home for it - I'm all for it.

Anyway, am I the only one who is not excited at the idea of a modern-day RPG? I mean, we don't know that's what it will be, but if it is... I don't know how excited I'll be. I'm looking forward to seeing more though.
Cameron Lee on this as well. DA team has been gutted.
Yeah there's like no one left?
I mean who's going to work on DA4, now?

My other hope would be a sort of modern day occult style game with witches, vampires, werewolves, fairies, and so forth. Like a dark urban fantasy game. But I'm not sure that's really Bioware's bag, and the concept shots look anything but urban. Maybe something post-apocalyptic?
I'd love something like this. Doesn't necessarily need to be "urban" either, I just love the idea of fantasy stuff set in a modern (or even futuristic setting). It's fun to think about what Thedas might be like far into the future, for example.
That's sort of what Shadowrun is. Elves and Dwarves and magic and stuff in a future cyberpunk setting. Originates as a tabletop style RPG, now there are games out (the Harebrained Schemes games are really quite good, Shadowrun: Hong Kong was just released recently).
I know Mr. Gaider is a Shadowrun fan (so am I!), so I wouldn't be too surprised if there was something similar to the new BioWare IP. That said, I would expect them to shy away from what other game studios are currently doing in favor of doing their own, new thing.
Either way, I look forward to it!

There was probably too many people on the team for the early stages it's in. So they've moved over to the new IP. Either they'll hire new people, or they will shift back around. Or both.
Okay, so it's a game of "very contemporary" stories, but if one tweet is correctly assigned to the new IP, there is magic. And it's also a fictional world. So, urban fantasy set somewhere other than Earth? Something else?

That sounds really awesome, tho for someone like me who doesn't really have anyone to play tabletop rpgs with, and a dinosaur pc, I'm just gonna be jealous.
Yeah, I imagine it's something very different, but I can dream. ![]()

To me it really depends how it is handled. I like the recent Shadowrun games fairly well (never played the pen and paper). I don't hate modern settings.
I do prefer fantasy to be fantasy and sci-fi to be sci-fi. So outside of Shadowrun, I am very iffy on mixing high tech and magic (and I don't entirely like it there, if I am honest). I prefer either highly specialized magic, or technology that has effects that seem magical. Printing presses and clockwork are one thing, cybernetic implants are another.
However if they have awesome characters and stories that they can tell, and it is an RPG, I'll probably buy at least the first game.
Considering that we were questioned some time back on if we would be okay with a game without romances, I wonder if the new IP will scrap romance in favor of maybe a deeper friendship system with companions? Assuming that there are companions; maybe there won't be?
I wouldn't be surprised if the scrapped romances. I think they've more trouble than they're worth, and I say that as someone who enjoys them.

I enjoy them too, but aside from the drama from the fans over them if they don't like some tiny thing about the romance, there's the animation, the writing, etc. I mean I'd be sad if they weren't included, but, well... life goes on. It might not even be a game I like.
About time for you to have your own Twitter Thread, Hrungr! ![]()

I don't hate it, but it depends on how it's done. I can't really see Bioware just depicting reality, so even if it's modern-ish, it'll probably be their own setting (or version of Earth).

At the end of the day, they know they sell and very likely have the stats to back it up. If it didn't help sell, they wouldn't of done it in practically every one of their games.

Looking at the list, I think the only one they haven't done romances in may be the Sonic one.

Agree, they should focus their resources on more important aspects , and this also allows them to improve the whole gameplay in general.
Nonetheless it would be a challenge for BW to exit their comfort zone , but i believe it will come off to their benefit.
Yeah, it's tough to get a feel from from the short presentation just what kind of genre they're going for. Post-apocalyptic? Something else? All we know is that you'll be able to play outside
... and it's set somewhere around modern-times.
Though it's interesting to note that not only will they have day/night cycles, but seasons as well. So expect to spend a lot of time in the game...
I think some people overestimate just how many resources romances take up.
I had this thought as well. I just can't see them dumping romances - they're so known for them and they're such a popular feature.
They are designing games. If they thought romances would take that much away, I'm sure they would scrap them themselves.
The more I think about it, the more I like the modern fantasy/horror idea. But I guess we'll see.

Hm, hadn't heard of that. Would be interesting if day/night/season cycles worked into gameplay somehow.

Conceptual Prototype Photos/Pictures
Hm... I scanned through them and guess what? What's wong with the pictures? Here is Bio trumpeting the wonderful graphic capabilities of FB3 and they show us washed out water paintings as conceptual real world snapshots? Hell, even DAI graphics are super better than this.
OK, maybe I misunderstood Bio's meaning about Real World IP. They certainly been tight lipped about it.
Best of luck to the team....then.

LOL
They can scrap the winter cycle.
1. I can't skate
2. I'm tired of clearing snow from my driveway
3. Winter heating bills are too high...
This IP can be anything... cyberpunk, urban fantasy, magic&demons, ...
Maybe PAX will show us something.

Indeed.
I also wonder what style of game they're building here... SP? MP?
Summer...ish.

Winter...

If it's anything like a playable Charles de Lint novel that would be incredible. No matter whether it is or not, I'm very excited to find out more.
