If super-hero type is true, I'd be thinking more Batman than Superman type powers/abilities.

I feel that that's just kind of the crux of games that come with voiced protagonists, and in general the 'style' of console games. I can't speak to the ME series overly well because I haven't personally played them (I'm not particularly interested in shooters from a gameplay standpoint, but I have watched my girlfriend play them) but I do understand what you're referring to. It raises the same issues that the switch from a non-voiced protagonist in Origins, to a voiced protagonist in DA2 made (though I do feel this was somewhat mitigated by the inclusion of conversation tones and I assume the paragon/renegade system from ME)

The issues Sylvius is describing are true of all written protagonists. Whether they are voiced or not is immaterial.

Only if you conflate the concepts of freedom and control.

Both limit our freedom (though to wildly different degrees). Only one limits our control.

Whatever extra control you think you get from an unvoiced protagonist is entirely imaginary and affects nothing.

But, you and I have gone back and forth on this before, so I'm just going to leave it at that.

It affects my enjoyment, which is ultimately all that matters to me.

It does that by affecting my roleplaying process.

Taken together with Schrödinger's Lore, it can also affect a great many off-screen details about the game world.

And yes, it's all imaginary, but by your reasoning so is every aspect of roleplaying.

It is only your assumptions that make headcanon valuless to you.

Hrungr, you started this thread almost six months ago.  Can you please explain why you haven't yet performed a daring ninja raid on BioWare HQ so that you can give us the deets on the new game series?

Secretly replace BioWare's coffee with decaf, wait for them to all go into torpor and then waltz in there and find out what we need to know.  Easy peasy...

Ok, so more of a 'super human' aspect rather than 'flying men in capes and tights'?

Hey, that's fair enough. That's about as much as I could figure out too. With the current Marvel movie craze I find it hard to picture anything else when i see the words 'super hero'

It would be preferable as such. The portrayal of the caricature superhero in capes and tights is so common and saturated in media it's approaching zombie-nazi levels. Besides that and more importantly, what's really missing is cogent, deep, and layered mythological stories that are shown in works like those by Neil Gaiman or Charles de Lint or even in the ancient writings of authors like Ovid or Euripides being manifest in the realm of AAA games. Such a thing would be remarkable and demonstrate the medium of gaming is maturing. That being dependent upon the possibility such a translation could be made and be made viably.

Unbreakable...yeah, that could work.

There's nothing saying that Heroes in tights can't be deep. Also whose to say that you can't have both tights and 'unbreakable' level Heroes in a story. Keeping them separate seems almost to be limiting the story.

Superheroes in tights....

Spandex or leather?

I mean, that might influence how serious I take the story or characters.....

Maybe a more vigilante type story perhaps?

No powers or special tech. Might still have masks. Could fall in line with the job opening for someone with experience on third person shooters.

Maybe even no costumes. More like Death Wish. Probably the closest would be Punisher without the costume or the insane rage.

I have to believe that information about the secret IP is in fact hiding in plain sight.

I recall DAIMP was teased openly pre-announcement.

So it's all in the language, genuine clues hidden in trivial tweets and conversation.

Why would devs/production staff do this?

Because it's too much fun not to.

Hmm... with Derek Hollan no longer there to vigilantly defend the caffeine stores, this is a remarkably viable plan.

"Extremely Mild" for them is, well... still a frozen hell.

That said, it's good to know that our company's inexplicable need to keep all the outside doors open is having a positive impact on Canadian climate. :)

I can't help but be a little surprised they have been this good at locking down all info on the New IP though...
