The OP made it sound like the video was new. Just wondering why they've made a thread about it now.
My guess would be because OP saw people tweeting about it.

If BioWare made a superhero game written by David Gaider and Mary Kirby (among others) I would ... I don't know what I would do. Squee forever? Cry from happiness? Fly to Edmonton and move into their office? It could be some kind of other contemporary speculative fiction, of course, or post-apocalypse. Or just about anything that isn't high fantasy or space opera.

Yes and the discussion of those tweets ended up in the DAI-twitter thread.
I seem to recall that being part of a cancelled C&C reboot.

My goodness, I hope it's not anything post-apocalyptic. And no zombies, either.
Ohhhh, no, lets hope that there won't be zombies! As an ex-zombie fangirl, I cannot be bothered with zombie games any more. Too many.... All interesting things that could have been said, have already been said. This whole genre needs a breather for at least a couple of years.
Having said that, Urban fantasy / post apocalyptic / cyberpunk (especially) - all sounds awesome! I am just generally excited for another IP. More BioWare goodness hopefully means less time to wait between new BioWare games. ![]()
Ah must have missed that. Thank you for clarification and sorry for any confusion I might have caused.
No worries, all good.
I think we're all curious as to what they're cooking up. Especially to take David Gaider permanently off the DA writing staff to head up the writing team on the new IP.
I know Mr. Gaider is a Shadowrun fan (so am I!), so I wouldn't be too surprised if there was something similar to the new BioWare IP.
Not that it has anything to do with the new IP, but Mike Laidlaw also seems to be a Shadowrun fan - or, at least, someone called Mike Laidlaw is a Shadowrun fan, since I spotted his name in the Hong Kong credits
.
As I understand it, if there's anything David Gaider is good at its crafting setting lore. One of the big differences, as far as I know, between DA and ME is that DA's team apparently worked out (At least in rough form) the answers to all the deeper mysteries of the setting beforehand. Whereas ME's writers kinda winged it, and look how that worked out.No worries, all good.

Had to have a look as I'd never looked at the credits, but that is cool, supporting the Indie industry. I knew DG was prominently displayed in the SRR credits which I thought was cool.

The whole "oh noes, the civilisation has collapsed: let us grab our shotguns and eat canned food" thing just does nothing to me. I know there are other ways to tell post-apocalyptic and/or zombie apocalypse stories (and Bioware could probably pull them off), but I just find the premise so uninteresting (hahah, did I just call the end of the world uninteresting?)
Now, Bioware's take on urban fantasy would be really cool.

Essentially, this.
As more Devs have shifted over to the New IP, we've been getting more tweets and more questions on it. Up till now, the tweets have been winding up on the DA:I & ME:A Twitter Threads so it felt like it was time for a proper thread on it.
I edited the OP last night, so hopefully it's a little more clear now that the video from last year (the only one we have on the New IP right now).
If there's anything else people feel I should add to the OP - just let me know! ![]()
I would kill for a shadowrun game done by BioWare. Or something similar.
I really like the games by Harebrained Schemes, but yes. I would love to see a BioWare take on Shadowrun, too!
Maybe the new IP will be like Lost and take place in the present day on a hidden and deserted island. That way they can tell whatever kind of story they went in a contemporary setting.
"BioWare want to tell "very contemporary stories" with the game, but in a world "as big as and imaginative" as the studio's previous work in sci-fi and fantasy. It will be a "clean-sheet design" starting from "the most fundamental principles you can have", said BioWare talking heads in the video. "We're trying to build a fictional world that feels real."
'Fundamental principles' is certainly something BioWare could have done a better job with in their last two games, particularly Inquisition. Writing principles anyway. I wish I could say that what I've been seeing and hearing from BioWare demonstrates a solid understanding and willingness to implement 'fundamental principles,' but unfortunately it seems to be going more and more in the opposite direction....

Better, you mean? Significantly better?
Perhaps not the 'mysteries,' but if you compare how the krogan, quarians, and geth were handled to the mages and templars, yeah, it's no comparison.

Yep. I love those games, but it would be interesting see what bioware could do with it. But I think bioware is now more into making its own lore and worlds, well, a part star wars.
True. I mean, the phrase "clean-sheet design" implies that they're creating their own, new thing rather than a new game for pre-existing franchises (so no Star Wars for this one, no Jade Empire, no Shadowrun, etc). As much as I like all of those, I'm happier to see something new!
You mean how they were handled within the narrative? I have some reservations about how Rannoch was handled, but I would agree that the genophage plot was handled better than the mages-templar conflict has been.Better, you mean? Significantly better?

Tangents in today's Writers Pit brainstorm:
- "Hot Fuzz"
- the "Littlest Hobo" theme, by @bbattye
- "We are the World", by me #ThisIsMyJob
@davidgaider @bbattye The crucial thing is that Brianne KNOWS ALL THE WORDS to the Littlest Hobo theme.
@BioMaryKirby @bbattye Truth.

I'm a little sad for the no Jade Empire, but I'm very curious about what it can be this new IP. Part of me would love some steampunk, just to have something completely different from Dragon Age and Mass Effect (and I'm not so interested in a modern setting, actually. But something similar to The Order: 1886? Yuuuuummm.... I know. Not happening. But a girl can dream, right?).
But we'll see...still too early to say anything. And even if it is something I usually don't like much, maybe it will have enough qualities to make me happy anyway. ![]()
