I was wondering what the minimum and max level scaling were the area for these 2 DLC are? By around level 16 I find the content becomes too easy with the amount of t3 gear and specializations available and the guide says I should be at level 20?

Can I go as low as level 10-12?

For Jaws of Hakkon, enemies will be as low as level 20 if you are under the recommended level for the content.

I don't know exactly how The Descent handles it.

The Descent starts lower and increases as you go deeper. Jaws starts at 20.

If you're finding it too easy, you can try increasing the difficulty, or you can go sooner. 10 might be too soon for Jaws, but I think the floor for Descent is 12 or 13, so it's probably doable there.

There's nothing stopping you from going to an area at any point (once you get to Skyhold), so feel free to experiment.

Thats a bit more encouraging for descent, I don't see the point of making DLC content gated at level 20 when by that point you already have access to the best gear in the game anyways.

The gear and schematics you find in Jaws are better than anything you can find in the rest of the game (outside Descent).

The enemies also scale all the way up to (and even beyond) the level cap (they're also much nastier at higher difficulties than enemies from the main game).

Thanks for the insight. I may reconsider getting Hakkon.

Jaws is the best exploration zone in the game.

It's basically what you'd expect from the other exploration zones, but there's a strong series of quests to drive you through the area; the fights are challenging, the content scales all the way up to Level 27 (the cap), it introduces Tier 4 materials and schematics, and it has some good unique loot.

It also has the things people don't like about the main game (few cutscenes, "grindy" combat, etc.), but I think it's a more effective balance (it's built better than the areas in the base game that are mostly lifeless with a bunch of MMO-style busywork).

One of the biggest issues of the main game was completely uninteresting and plot-wise pointless areas like exalted plains and to a lesser extent, emerald graves. The level scaling was also horrendous and I would be grossly overleveled if I actually did a reasonable amount of game content in logical sequence (that is, exalted before winter palace where it would make sense).

By the time I was around level 16-20 the game had already been trivialized by specializations.

Not really actually. Most of the weapons are terrible IIRC. You can't slap upgrades on them so things like the bow of the berrasad with MWBound grip is still the better bow. Hakkon's wrath is basically a slightly better perseverance which doesn't have any upgrade slots so if you prefer Perseverance and the like I guess Hakkon's got good stuff.
Descent is even worse, it's stat line is in line with what you can add upgrades too but you can't add any upgrades to them.

I'll cut the Hakkon weapons some slack. They were released before the Black Emporium schematics.

Recommend completing JoH before Descent, though starting Descent as early as possible may be profitable.

The DLC introduces more than just the Hakkon weapons.

In any event, the comparison is to items from the main game. I long ago decided not to bother worrying about how things compare to overpowered crafted equipment.

Ah, I didn't know that. Still doesn't excuse the Descent junk though.

Descent has some nice gear, imo its all about what fade touched mats you use on any armor, i ran around empire de lion in t1 defender armor but with FT obsidian, FT silverite and the hidden blades FT(cant at this moment remember witch mat it is) and was pretty much OP
