Parts of the Chant from WoT Vol 2, seem to confirm that Corypheus was indeed the ringleader and mastermind of the plot to breach the Golden City, having gone to the other seven high priests of their respective Old Gods and convinced them to join him in his scheme.

I think in-universe, he was forced to use yet another alias because the name "Corypheus" was known to the Wardens. Why he went with Elder One, I have no idea, because it really doesn't describe him in a flattering or imposing way?

I think that Samson's nickname for him is far better, because as cliche and overused as it is, you can't go wrong with "The Master".

Almost a Conductor of sorts.

Why Elder One?

Because he is an erotic, possibly dead magical lord.

He is your elder. You will kneel.

Corypheus is erotic? It must be the voice. It just oozes power. :P

I can't be the only one who finds Corypheus sexy, right?

Not my confession. I'm not THAT depraved.

By "depraved" surely you mean, "have sublime aesthetic taste."

Though "depraved" works, too. At least it's interesting.

A megalomaniacal villain who's place of origin suffered a cataclysm, was sealed away and forgotten, seeks to rebuild his world from the ashes, become unto a God, as well as make people "kneel" before him... just when did Corpyheus become General Zod?

He uses the title to inflate his ego and distance himself from his humanity, the less human he seems he becomes more godlike, at least according to him.

Yeah I suspect it's more of an ego thing. Makes him sound more important and intimidating.

Before the game came out, people theorized that the Elder One is the Formless One, one of the Forbidden Ones. Or perhaps one of the Forgotten Ones.
