References to RL weapons:

The O'Dwyer VLe Pistol - rounds are stacked in the barrel and are caseless rounds fired by electrical impulse - 3 per trigger pull if you want - safety feature of only allowing registered user to fire.

 - theoretical ROF of 1,500 RPM if you can change the barrel that fast ofc - comes with 3 barrels for a 21 round loadout.

The Raging Bull Revolver - fires .45, 12 gauge shotgun shells and .454 Casull rounds.  Definitely a Krogan favorite.  KABLAMMO!

The S&W 460 XVR - giant barrel - comes with scope and a bi-pod HAHA - for that discerning pistil marksman.  5 round revolver chamber.

Other Guns

British Royal Navy Volley Shotgun - 7 barrel gun with a blast so large it sets rigging on fire.  Probably makes a Krogan think of his mother.

Any water cooled gatling gun - Your Turian will hug you if you get him this for christmas

Frankly any gun or field artillery piece made my metalstorm...because infantry deployable remote artillery isn't overpowered at all.

There are more but these were just a few I thought would be interesting to see in-game with of course some flavor added.

I want something like the Desert Eagle, and some ornery batarians forcing me to whip it out to scare them away.

Isn't that basically the N7 Eagle?

I, at first, was going to mention the M-4 Shuriken as an example. But your example blows mine out of the water, KaiserShep.

Basically every single "smg" in ME universe is a machine pistol. With the exception of the N7 Hurricane perhaps.

I still don't know how or what rules they use to categorize guns in ME. The Avenger looks more like a carbine than an AR, but I dunno.

I would like pistols to feel unique and sci-fi. I just hope they don't go with the space revolvers or other things of past ages modernized to be in this future timeframe .....terrible.

Like Destiny's hand cannons. I really don't like those things.

But revolvers work perfectly with heat sink mechanics.

You'd think that with all that advance tech, they'd come up with cyber attacks as well, to negate their Command & Control. I mean, even  with our current  tech, we  experience daily "savage" attacks. Why not a futuristic one?

Have a look at this real time world cyber attack map ( alleged anyway) from a cyber security company.

My biggest issue with big bore calibers is the drop in accuracy when firing multiple rounds (with handguns) in quick succession.
I can quickly and easily double tap a target with a .40s&w and still have fantastic grouping.
But if I attempt the same thing with a 357mag, my accuracy drops, understandably.(naturally the mechanical format of this comparison is an issue for ROF (Revolver vs semi/full auto).
Granted the bigger calibers offer more muzzle velocity and more importantly kinetic energy (stopping power).
But I think it depends on the situation.
Similar to a scatter gun.
If I'm attempting a long distance shot, I won't be using a shotgun. Even though they have a tremendous amount of kinetic energy. (I'm referring to a shot shell as opposed to a sabot, where shot spread is a factor.)
This is why my Shep always carried multiple weapons for multiple situations.
But for just "cool factor", how about an old "grape shooter"? The LeMat revolver (revamped of course). It shoots a shot shell AND .45 colt round (iirc) per trigger pull at the same time.
I'm probably going to get flamed for it but I'm a Mattock or harrier fan.

They use "what's close enough" because they don't want to break it down into a dozen different categories. Basically, it has to go into one of the 5 existing categories even if in real life it doesn't.

They even poke fun a bit at all the "The Reegar Carbine isn't a shotgun!" comments that happened in the description of the Adas by saying "Alliance marines take issue with calling it a "rifle" since, technically, it has no rifling in its barrel. The quarians shrug this off, as quarian weapon terminology rarely translates flawlessly into human languages."

+5% accuracy bonus when held sideways. If we're going to see retarded styles of shooting, might as well go all the way. Bioware certainly can't claim to be above all that after some of the character stereotypes (especially Kai Lang), and ME3.

actually shooting sideways IS a valid technique. (google search will show a marine instructer talking about it)however it requires lots of practice. still a stupid way to fire a gun imo. 2 guns in video games however is perfectly acceptable. ofc you would have accuracy penalties and probably slower reloads.

All dual wielding does is make the balance of the single handed weapons poor.  That and it makes the game like a B action movie.

If they are going to keep classing weapons in MEA, the classes should be more rigid.  Otherwise they should drop the class concept.  It is stupid to have something like the Eagle in the pistol category when machine pistols were clearly intended to be in the SMG category.

On the subject of lore and gameplay interaction, I wonder how the shotguns are constructed.  Since mass accelerator weapons are supposed to be railguns in ME, but that system probably isn't conducive to firing multiple projectiles at once.  Wonder if they are packaged with an armature as some sort of canister round, or if devs didn't really think about it.  A coilgun wouldn't have rails necessarily, unless used loosely for power amplification.

railguns in ME

The Eagle is a variant of the Phalanx, a heavy pistol. It also is a reference to the Desert Eagle, which is a pistol.

Last I checked there is only one railgun in ME, the M-920 Cain.
