I know dragon age has a pretty powerful tool editor, though i never really got into using it. I did wan't to make some brand new DLC style side quests that continued the stories of some of the NPC's i really enjoyed, but alas i never got around to it. I have Did use the old neverwinter nights tool set, from the first which i found a lot of fun, and have take some programming over the years and thought maybe it was time to dabble in it again.
My question is, Can you use the DAO tools to make areas and mod DAII? Are there DA II specific tools? Anyone have links to anything that would help? I know one of the biggest complaints about DAII is the reused areas. My first play through i didn't mind it as much as i really was into the story and NPC's, but playing again i've really started to notice how even in different locations, they are using the same caves, and maps, ect.. just blocking off sections with rocks, or stuff and fitting the new content over the same map location. (you can even see the original map on the right side of the screen just cut off which often makes you think you are missing places). My guess is a smaller team, and just not enough time was the main factor here, but it got me thinking.. Why not mod it!
Basically my thought processes behind this would be.. Take the quest location, Make a new area to turn that location unique. Then take the original content an import it onto the new map, Add the talk triggers, spawns, ect.. Perhaps add some extra triggers, traps, monsters, items.. ext for a bit of extra tweaking. Basically taking what is there and expanding on it, giving that area a unique feel, and get rid of that big complain of reused areas. I'm not talking about when they send you back to the same area, More of when you go into a new building, or a new cave, it is a new cave. I noticed a few locations in lowtown, like different buildings and warehouses, using the same map.. I'm sure others have as well.
Take for example the cave with the blood mages, and the templar outside, Act I quest (forget the name) It uses the same cave as another quest from sunder mountain, in fact i think it is used in another couple quest locations as well. Anyways, i think you get what i am getting at here..
Is this possible with tools? I realize this would be a fairly big task, But with the right tools i think it could be very doable. So is it possible? has anyone thought about this besides me? I know i have seen many DAO mods, but not much in the way of DAII. I wonder if it is because DAII has a bad rap, and just not many wanted to get involved, or is it the lack of tools?
Personally, i really do enjoy DAII, There are things i really like more about it, like the way the tactics work, to me they are far improved. the NPC's also seem more dynamic in many ways. the deaths, or different outcomes, and the way they interact, verse DAO's banter, and the party camp one on one talk sessions. In some ways DAII feels a bit more like mass effect in those ways. But i digress..
Perhaps a big ol mod could really bring the game into a place it could be, and many people thought should of been in the first place.. I just kinda wanna know if it is possible and perhaps worth the effort..
thoughts on this?
